Terza lettera di Giovanni 1

1 - Il seniore a Gaio carissimo, che io amo nella verità.	1 From the Elder: greetings to my dear friend Gaius, whom I love in truth.
2 Carissimo, io faccio orazione, perchè tu prosperi in tutte le cose, come prospera l'anima tua.	2 My dear friend, I hope everything is going happily with you and that you are as well physical y as youare spiritual y.
3 Mi sono rallegrato molto all'arrivo dei fratelli, i quali hanno reso testimonianza alla tua verità.	3 It was a great joy to me when some brothers came and told of your faithfulness to the truth, and of yourlife in the truth.
4 Cosa più grata di questa io non ho: sapere che i miei figliuoli camminano nella verità.	4 It is always my greatest joy to hear that my children are living according to the truth.
5 Carissimo, tu agisci da fedele in tutto quello che operi verso i fratelli e verso i pellegrini;	5 My dear friend, you have done loyal work in helping these brothers, even though they were strangers toyou.
6 i quali hanno reso testimonianza alla tua carità davanti alla Chiesa; e farai bene a provvedere al loro viaggio in modo degno di Dio.	6 They are a proof to the whole Church of your love and it would be a kindness if you could help them ontheir journey as God would approve.
7 Infatti essi si son messi in viaggio per il nome di Lui, senza accettare nulla dai Gentili.	7 It was entirely for the sake of the name that they set out, without depending on the non-believers foranything:
8 Noi dobbiamo quindi accogliere uomini così fatti, per cooperare [al trionfo] della verità.	8 it is our duty to welcome people of this sort and contribute our share to their work for the truth.
9 Avrei scritto forse alla Chiesa; ma Diotrefe, che ama primeggiare tra loro, non ci riceve.	9 I have written a note for the members of the church, but Diotrephes, who enjoys being in charge of it,refuses to accept us.
10 Per questo, se io verrò, gli ricorderò le opere che egli fa, cianciando contro di noi con parole maligne. E quasi ciò non gli basti, non solo non accoglie i fratelli, ma proibisce agli altri di accoglierli e li caccia dalla Chiesa.	10 So if I come, I shal tel everyone how he has behaved, and about the wicked accusations he has beencirculating against us. As if that were not enough, he not only refuses to welcome our brothers, but prevents fromdoing so other people who would have liked to, and expels them from the church.
11 Carissimo, non imitare il male, ma il bene. Chi fa il bene, è da Dio; chi fa il male, non ha veduto Dio.	11 My dear friend, never fol ow a bad example, but keep fol owing the good one; whoever does what isright is from God, but no one who does what is wrong has ever seen God.
12 A Demetrio è resa testimonianza da tutti, e dalla stessa verità; e noi pure gli rendiamo testimonianza; e tu sai che la nostra testimonianza è verace.	12 Demetrius has been approved by everyone, and indeed by Truth itself. We too wil vouch for him andyou know that our testimony is true.
13 Avrei tante cose da scriverti, ma non ho voluto scrivertele con penna ed inchiostro.	13 There were several things I had to tel you but I would rather not trust them to pen and ink.
14 Ma spero vederti presto e [allora] ci parleremo a viva voce. Pace a te. Gli amici ti salutano. Saluta gli amici nominalmente.	14 However, I hope to see you soon and talk to you in person.
	15 Peace be with you; greetings from your friends; greet each of our friends by name.
