Lettera di Giacomo 3

BIBBIA RICCIOTTI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 - Fratelli miei, non vogliate esser molti a far da maestri, sapendo che vi addossate un giudizio più severo.	1 Only a few of you, my brothers, should be teachers, bearing in mind that we shal receive a stricterjudgement.
2 Infatti tutti manchiamo in molte cose! Chi non manca nel parlare, è un uomo perfetto e può tenere a freno anche tutto quanto il corpo.	2 For we all trip up in many ways. Someone who does not trip up in speech has reached perfection andis able to keep the whole body on a tight rein.
3 Se noi mettiamo il freno in bocca ai cavalli, perchè ci siano ubbidienti, teniamo a freno anche tutto il loro corpo.	3 Once we put a bit in the horse's mouth, to make it do what we want, we have the whole animal underour control.
4 Ecco, anche le navi, benchè siano grandi e sospinte da venti gagliardi, vengono dirette da un piccolo timone dovunque ordini il timoniere.	4 Or think of ships: no matter how big they are, even if a gale is driving them, they are directed by a tinyrudder wherever the whim of the helmsman decides.
5 Così pure la lingua è un piccolo membro e si vanta di grandi cose. Ecco un piccolo fuoco che gran selva incendia!	5 So the tongue is only a tiny part of the body, but its boasts are great. Think how smal a flame can setfire to a huge forest;
6 Anche la lingua è un fuoco, un mondo d'iniquità. Posta tra le nostre membra, la lingua contamina tutto il corpo, ed essendo infiammata dall'inferno, mette in fiamme la ruota del viver nostro.	6 The tongue is a flame too. Among al the parts of the body, the tongue is a whole wicked world: itinfects the whole body; catching fire itself from hel , it sets fire to the whole wheel of creation.
7 Infatti ogni specie di bestie, di uccelli, di serpenti e d'altri animali si doma ed è stata domata dall'uomo;	7 Wild animals and birds, reptiles and fish of every kind can al be tamed, and have been tamed, byhumans;
8 ma la lingua non c'è uomo che possa domarla; è un male che non si può frenare; è piena di mortale veleno.	8 but nobody can tame the tongue -- it is a pest that wil not keep stil , ful of deadly poison.
9 Con essa benediciamo il Signore e Padre; e con essa malediciamo gli uomini, che son stati creati a immagine di Dio.	9 We use it to bless the Lord and Father, but we also use it to curse people who are made in God'simage:
10 Dalla stessa bocca esce la benedizione e la maledizione. Non bisogna, fratelli, che sia così.	10 the blessing and curse come out of the same mouth. My brothers, this must be wrong-
11 Forse che la fonte getta dalla stessa apertura acqua dolce e amara?	11 does any water supply give a flow of fresh water and salt water out of the same pipe?
12 Può forse, fratelli miei, un fico dar uva o una vite [dar] fichi? E neppure [una fonte] salata può dare acqua dolce.	12 Can a fig tree yield olives, my brothers, or a vine yield figs? No more can sea water yield fresh water.
13 Chi è saggio e intelligente tra voi? Faccia vedere con la buona vita le sue opere fatte con la mansuetudine [propria] della saggezza.	13 Anyone who is wise or understanding among you should from a good life give evidence of deeds donein the gentleness of wisdom.
14 Ma se avete in cuor vostro uno zelo amaro e litigioso, non vi gloriate e non mentite contro la verità.	14 But if at heart you have the bitterness of jealousy, or selfish ambition, do not be boastful or hide thetruth with lies;
15 Poichè non è questa una sapienza che vien dall'alto; ma terrena, carnale, diabolica.	15 this is not the wisdom that comes from above, but earthly, human and devilish.
16 Dove infatti vi è tale zelo e dissensi, là è scompiglio e ogni opera perversa.	16 Wherever there are jealousy and ambition, there are also disharmony and wickedness of every kind;
17 Ma la sapienza che vien dall'alto, prima di tutto, è pura, di poi pacifica, modesta, arrendevole, condiscendete ai buoni, piena di misericordia e di buoni frutti, aliena dal criticare e dall'ipocrisia.	17 whereas the wisdom that comes down from above is essential y something pure; it is also peaceable,kindly and considerate; it is ful of mercy and shows itself by doing good; nor is there any trace of partiality orhypocrisy in it.
18 Ora il frutto della giustizia si semina nella pace da coloro che praticano la pace.	18 The peace sown by peacemakers brings a harvest of justice.
