Lettera ai Galati 4

BIBBIA RICCIOTTI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 - Or io dico: per tutto il tempo che un erede è fanciullo, non differisce punto da un servo, pur essendo padrone di tutto,	1 What I am saying is this: an heir, during the time while he is stil under age, is no different from a slave,even though he is the owner of al the property;
2 e sta sotto tutori e amministratori fino al tempo prestabilito dal padre.	2 he is under the control of guardians and administrators until the time fixed by his father.
3 Così anche noi, quando eravamo fanciulli, eravamo schiavi sotto gli elementi del mondo,	3 So too with us, as long as we were stil under age, we were enslaved to the elemental principles of thisworld;
4 ma quando venne la pienezza dei tempi, Dio mandò suo figlio, nato di donna, nato sotto la Legge,	4 but when the completion of the time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born a subject of theLaw,
5 per riscattare quelli che erano sotto la Legge, e far che noi ricevessimo l'adozione dei figli.	5 to redeem the subjects of the Law, so that we could receive adoption as sons.
6 E perchè siete figli, mandò Iddio lo Spirito del Figlio suo nei vostri cuori, il quale grida: «Abba» («Padre»).	6 As you are sons, God has sent into our hearts the Spirit of his Son crying, 'Abba, Father';
7 Sicchè tu non sei più servo ma figlio, e, se figlio, anche erede per opera di Dio.	7 and so you are no longer a slave, but a son; and if a son, then an heir, by God's own act.
8 Allora non conoscendo Dio, eravate servi di tali che per loro natura non sono dèi,	8 But formerly when you did not know God, you were kept in slavery to things which are not really gods atal ,
9 invece ora, conoscendo Dio, e meglio ancora, riconosciuti da Dio, come mai vi rivolgete di nuovo ai deboli e poveri elementi, ai quali volete daccapo farvi schiavi?	9 whereas now that you have come to recognise God -- or rather, be recognised by God -- how can younow turn back again to those powerless and bankrupt elements whose slaves you now want to be al overagain?
10 Voi osservate i giorni e i mesi e le ricorrenze e gli anni;	10 You are keeping special days, and months, and seasons and years-
11 in verità temo di voi, che invano io abbia tra voi faticato. Esortazioni di Paolo ed effusioni di cuore	11 I am beginning to be afraid that I may, after al , have wasted my efforts on you.
12 Siate come me, o fratelli, ve ne prego, che anch'io son come voi. Voi non mi avete mai fatto alcun torto;	12 I urge you, brothers,-be like me, as I have become like you. You have never been unfair to me;
13 sapete bene come la prima volta vi evangelizzai pur con un'infermità della carne; e questa prova a cui la mia carne vi sottoponeva,	13 indeed you remember that it was an il ness that first gave me the opportunity to preach the gospel toyou,
14 voi nè la dispregiaste nè n'avete mostrato disgusto, ma mi avete accolto come un angelo di Dio, come Cristo Gesù.	14 but though my il ness was a trial to you, you did not show any distaste or revulsion; instead, youwelcomed me as a messenger of God, as if I were Christ Jesus himself.
15 Dove dunque se n'è ito quel vostro apprezzamento di felicità? poichè io vi rendo questa testimonianza, che se fosse stato possibile, vi sareste cavati gli occhi per darmeli.	15 What has happened to the utter contentment you had then? For I can testify to you that you wouldhave plucked your eyes out, were that possible, and given them to me.
16 Sicchè, sono io diventato vostro nemico dicendovi la verità?	16 Then have I turned into your enemy simply by being truthful with you?
17 costoro vi mostrano zelo ma non onestamente, anzi vi voglion chiuder fuori perchè voi volgiate le vostre premure a loro.	17 Their devotion to you has no praiseworthy motive; they simply want to cut you off from me, so that youmay centre your devotion on them.
18 Ora è bello essere oggetto di premure nel bene, sempre, e non solo quando io son tra voi presente,	18 Devotion to a praiseworthy cause is praiseworthy at any time, not only when I am there with you.
19 o figliuoli miei, che io di nuovo partorisco, fino a tanto che sia formato Cristo in voi;	19 My children, I am going through the pain of giving birth to you al over again, until Christ is formed inyou;
20 oh, come vorrei esser tra voi ora, e cambiar tono, perchè son tanto perplesso a riguardo vostro. Inutilità della Legge dimostrata con l'allegoria di Agar e di Sara	20 and how I wish I could be there with you at this moment and find the right way of talking to you: I amquite at a loss with you.
21 Ditemi voi che volete esser sotto la Legge, non l'avete letta la Legge?	21 Tell me then, you are so eager to be subject to the Law, have you listened to what the Law says?
22 Poichè sta scritto che Abramo ebbe due figli, uno dalla schiava e uno dalla libera.	22 Scripture says that Abraham had two sons, one by the slave girl and one by the freewoman.
23 Ma quello che ebbe dalla schiava, nacque secondo la carne, quello che ebbe dalla libera fu secondo la promessa.	23 The son of the slave girl came to be born in the way of human nature; but the son of the freewomancame to be born through a promise.
24 Le quali cose sono state dette per allegoria; perchè coteste donne figurano due patti d'alleanza; l'uno dal Monte Sinai, che porta alla schiavitù, e questo è Agar,	24 There is an al egory here: these women stand for the two covenants. The one given on Mount Sinai --that is Hagar, whose children are born into slavery;
25 e Agar è appunto il monte Sinai nell'Arabia; e corrisponde alla Gerusalemme d'ora, che è serva co' suoi figliuoli.	25 now Sinai is a mountain in Arabia and represents Jerusalem in its present state, for she is in slaverytogether with her children.
26 Invece la Gerusalemme di lassù è libera, e quella è la nostra madre,	26 But the Jerusalem above is free, and that is the one that is our mother;
27 poichè sta scritto: "Rallegrati, o sterile, che non partorisci; prorompi in grida di gioia, o tu che non hai provato le doglie del parto, poichè molti più saranno i figli della donna abbandonata che di quella che aveva marito"	27 as scripture says: Shout for joy, you barren woman who has borne no children! Break into shouts ofjoy, you who were never in labour. For the sons of the forsaken one are more in number than the sons of thewedded wife.
28 Ora noi, o fratelli, siamo figliuoli secondo la promessa che riguardava Isacco.	28 Now you, brothers, are like Isaac, children of the promise;
29 Ma come allora il figlio secondo la carne perseguitò quello secondo lo spirito,	29 just as at that time, the child born in the way of human nature persecuted the child born through theSpirit, so now.
30 così anche ora. Ma la Scrittura che dice? "Caccia la schiava e il figlio di lei, poichè non avrà l'eredità il figlio della schiava insieme col figlio della libera".	30 But what is it that scripture says? Drive away that slave girl and her son; the slave girl's son is not toshare the inheritance with the son of the freewoman.
31 Pertanto, o fratelli, noi non siamo figli della schiava, ma della libera.	31 So, brothers, we are the children not of the slave girl but of the freewoman.
