| 1 - O Galati insensati, chi vi ha affascinati da non più aderire alla verità, mentre pur fu vivamente dipinto agli occhi vostri Gesù Cristo per voi crocifisso? | 1 O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified? |
| 2 Questo solo voglio saper da voi: «Lo Spirito l'avete ricevuto dalle opere della Legge o dall'adesione alla fede?». | 2 Let me ask you only this: Did you receive the Spirit by works of the law, or by hearing with faith? |
| 3 Siete così stolti che avendo cominciato collo Spirito, credete ora di conseguire la perfezione colla carne? | 3 Are you so foolish? Having begun with the Spirit, are you now ending with the flesh? |
| 4 Tante sofferenze le avete avute invano? Se pure anche invano. | 4 Did you experience so many things in vain?--if it really is in vain. |
| 5 Chi dunque vi dà lo Spirito, e opera tra voi de' miracoli, lo fa egli in seguito alle opere della Legge o in seguito all'adesione alla fede? | 5 Does he who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you do so by works of the law, or by hearing with faith? |
| 6 Come sta scritto: "Abramo credette a Dio, e ciò gli fu ascritto a giustizia". | 6 Thus Abraham "believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness." |
| 7 Riconoscete dunque che quelli che provengono dalla fede, questi sono i figli di Abramo. | 7 So you see that it is men of faith who are the sons of Abraham. |
| 8 E la Scrittura prevedendo che Dio giustificherebbe i Gentili dalla fede, preannunziò ad Abramo: "In te tutte le Genti saranno benedette". | 8 And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, "In you shall all the nations be blessed." |
| 9 Sicchè dunque i provenienti dalla fede sono benedetti col credente Abramo. | 9 So then, those who are men of faith are blessed with Abraham who had faith. |
| 10 Poichè tutti quelli che provengono dalle opere della Legge sono sotto una maledizione giacchè sta scritto: "Maledetto chiunque non rimane fedele a tutte le disposizioni scritte nel libro della legge per adempierle" | 10 For all who rely on works of the law are under a curse; for it is written, "Cursed be every one who does not abide by all things written in the book of the law, and do them." |
| 11 E che nella Legge nessuno sia giustificato presso Dio è manifesto, perchè il giusto vive della fede. | 11 Now it is evident that no man is justified before God by the law; for "He who through faith is righteous shall live"; |
| 12 La Legge invece non viene dalla fede, ma chi avrà fatto ciò che la legge prescrive, avrà vita in quello. | 12 but the law does not rest on faith, for "He who does them shall live by them." |
| 13 Or Cristo ci ha riscattati dalla maledizione della Legge diventando lui maledizione per noi, poichè è scritto: "Maledetto chiunque pende dal legno"; | 13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us--for it is written, "Cursed be every one who hangs on a tree"-- |
| 14 e ciò perchè la benedizione di Abramo scendesse sulle Genti in Gesù Cristo, affinchè noi ricevessimo la promessa dello Spirito per mezzo della fede. | 14 that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. |
| 15 O fratelli, (io parlo secondo l'uomo). Una volta stabilito un patto pur tra uomini, nessuno lo annulla o gli fa delle aggiunte. | 15 To give a human example, brethren: no one annuls even a man's will, or adds to it, once it has been ratified. |
| 16 Ora ad Abramo furono annunziate delle promesse, a lui e al suo seme; non dice: «A' suoi discendenti» come fossero molti, ma uno solo: «Al tuo seme», e questi è Cristo. | 16 Now the promises were made to Abraham and to his offspring. It does not say, "And to offsprings," referring to many; but, referring to one, "And to your offspring," which is Christ. |
| 17 Ora io dico questo: Un patto stabilito da Dio, una legge di quattrocentotrent'anni dopo non lo può mica annullare, sì da rendere vana la promessa. | 17 This is what I mean: the law, which came four hundred and thirty years afterward, does not annul a covenant previously ratified by God, so as to make the promise void. |
| 18 Se l'eredità fosse dalla Legge, non sarebbe più dalle promesse; ma ad Abramo l'ha data Dio in virtù della promessa. | 18 For if the inheritance is by the law, it is no longer by promise; but God gave it to Abraham by a promise. |
| 19 Che cos'è dunque la Legge? in vista delle trasgressioni essa fu posta, fino a che venisse il seme a cui fu fatta la promessa; la Legge veniva promulgata per mezzo d'angeli in mano d'un mediatore; | 19 Why then the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the offspring should come to whom the promise had been made; and it was ordained by angels through an intermediary. |
| 20 or non v'è un mediatore se si tratta di un solo; e Dio è unico. | 20 Now an intermediary implies more than one; but God is one. |
| 21 La Legge si dirà dunque essere contraria alle promesse di Dio? non sia mai. Se fosse stata data una legge che avesse la podestà di vivificare, allora sì dalla Legge verrebbe la giustizia. | 21 Is the law then against the promises of God? Certainly not; for if a law had been given which could make alive, then righteousness would indeed be by the law. |
| 22 Ma la Scrittura ha invece richiuso ogni cosa sotto il peccato, affinchè fosse concessa ai credenti la promessa congiunta con la fede in Gesù Cristo. | 22 But the scripture consigned all things to sin, that what was promised to faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe. |
| 23 Prima che venisse la fede eravate custoditi rinchiusi sotto la Legge, in attesa che fosse rivelata la fede che doveva venire. | 23 Now before faith came, we were confined under the law, kept under restraint until faith should be revealed. |
| 24 Sicchè la Legge è stata il nostro pedagogo a Cristo, affinchè per via della fede fossimo giustificati; | 24 So that the law was our custodian until Christ came, that we might be justified by faith. |
| 25 venuta quella, non siamo più sotto il pedagogo. | 25 But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a custodian; |
| 26 Difatti siete tutti figli di Dio per la fede in Cristo Gesù; | 26 for in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith. |
| 27 quanti siete stati battezzati in Cristo, vi siete rivestiti di Cristo. | 27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. |
| 28 Non vi è più Giudeo nè Greco, non vi è schiavo nè libero, non maschio o femmina, ma tutti voi siete uno solo in Cristo Gesù. | 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. |
| 29 E se voi siete in Cristo, siete seme di Abramo, eredi secondo la promessa. | 29 And if you are Christs, then you are Abraham's offspring, heirs according to promise. |
