1 - Costoro vennero da Davide in Siceleg, quando ancora egli fuggiva da Saul, figliuolo di Cis. Essi erano assai forti e valenti guerrieri.	1 Now these are the men who came to David at Ziklag, while he could not move about freely because of Saul the son of Kish; and they were among the mighty men who helped him in war.
2 Erano arcieri e con ambedue le mani lanciavano sassi con la fionda e scoccavan frecce. Essi erano di Beniamin del numero dei fratelli di Saul.	2 They were bowmen, and could shoot arrows and sling stones with either the right or the left hand; they were Benjaminites, Saul's kinsmen.
3 Capo era Aiezer e Joas figli di Samaa di Gabaa e Jaziel e Fallet, figli di Azmot, Baraca e Jeu di Anatot,	3 The chief was Ahi-ezer, then Joash, both sons of Shemaah of Gibe-ah; also Jezi-el and Pelet the sons of Azmaveth; Beracah, Jehu of Anathoth,
4 Samaia di Gabaon uno dei più forti dei trenta e capo dei trenta, Jeremia, Jeeziel e Joanan e Jezabad di Gaderot,	4 Ishmaiah of Gibeon, a mighty man among the thirty and a leader over the thirty; Jeremiah, Jahaziel, Johanan, Jozabad of Gederah,
5 Eluzai, Jerimut, Baalia, Samaria e Safatia di Aruf,	5 Eluzai, Jerimoth, Bealiah, Shemariah, Shephatiah the Haruphite;
6 Elcana, Jesia, Azareel, Joezer e Jesbaam di Careim,	6 Elkanah, Isshiah, Azarel, Jo-ezer, and Jashobe-am, the Korahites;
7 Joela e Zabadia, figli di Jeroam di Gedor.	7 and Joelah and Zebadiah, the sons of Jeroham of Gedor.
8 Anche della tribù di Gad, uomini valentissimi e ottimi guerrieri, armati di scudo e di lancia si erano rifugiati presso Davide, quando si teneva nascosto nel deserto. Le loro facce erano simili a quelle dei leoni ed erano veloci come i caprioli delle montagne.	8 From the Gadites there went over to David at the stronghold in the wilderness mighty and experienced warriors, expert with shield and spear, whose faces were like the faces of lions, and who were swift as gazelles upon the mountains:
9 Ezer fu loro capo, Obdia il secondo, Eliab il terzo,	9 Ezer the chief, Obadiah second, Eliab third,
10 Masmana il quarto, Jeremia il quinto,	10 Mishmannah fourth, Jeremiah fifth,
11 Eti il sesto, Eliel il settimo,	11 Attai sixth, Eliel seventh,
12 Joanan l'ottavo, Elzebad il nono,	12 Johanan eighth, Elzabad ninth,
13 Jeremia il decimo, Macbanai l'undicesimo.	13 Jeremiah tenth, Machbannai eleventh.
14 Questi, appartenenti alla tribù di Gad, erano principi dell'esercito; l'ultimo di essi comandava a cento soldati e il primo a mille.	14 These Gadites were officers of the army, the lesser over a hundred and the greater over a thousand.
15 Questi son quelli che passarono il Giordano nel primo mese, quando suole straripare sulle sue sponde, e misero in fuga tutti quelli che abitavano nelle valli poste a oriente e a occidente [del fiume].	15 These are the men who crossed the Jordan in the first month, when it was overflowing all its banks, and put to flight all those in the valleys, to the east and to the west.
16 Vi furono anche dei figli di Beniamin e di Giuda che si portaron da Davide mentre era nella fortezza.	16 And some of the men of Benjamin and Judah came to the stronghold to David.
17 Uscito Davide incontro a loro disse: «Se voi venite a me con buone intenzioni per porgermi aiuto, il mio cuore sia unito al vostro; se invece mi insidiate a vantaggio de' miei avversari, mentre io non ho commesso alcuna violenza, il Dio dei padri nostri veda e giudichi».	17 David went out to meet them and said to them, "If you have come to me in friendship to help me, my heart will be knit to you; but if to betray me to my adversaries, although there is no wrong in my hands, then may the God of our fathers see and rebuke you."
18 Amasai, uno dei principi fra i trenta, venne investito dallo spirito e disse: «Noi siamo tuoi, o Davide, e siamo con te, o figliuolo di Isai; pace a te, e pace a chi ti porge aiuto, poichè il tuo Dio ti porge aiuto». E Davide li accolse e li costituì principi della truppa.	18 Then the Spirit came upon Amasai, chief of the thirty, and he said, "We are yours, O David; and with you, O son of Jesse! Peace, peace to you, and peace to your helpers! For your God helps you." Then David received them, and made them officers of his troops.
19 Anche dei figli di Manasse passarono a Davide, quando coi Filistei veniva a combattere contro Saul. Non combattè però con essi, poichè i principi dei Filistei, dopo essersi consigliati tra loro, lo rinviarono dicendo: «A prezzo delle nostre teste egli ritornerà al suo padrone Saul».	19 Some of the men of Manasseh deserted to David when he came with the Philistines for the battle against Saul. (Yet he did not help them, for the rulers of the Philistines took counsel and sent him away, saying, "At peril to our heads he will desert to his master Saul.")
20 Quando adunque fece ritorno a Siceleg, vennero da lui quei di Manasse: Ednas, Jozabad, Jediel, Micael, Ednas, Jozabad, Eliu e Salati principi delle migliaia di Manasse.	20 As he went to Ziklag these men of Manasseh deserted to him: Adnah, Jozabad, Jedia-el, Michael, Jozabad, Elihu, and Zillethai, chiefs of thousands in Manasseh.
21 Questi prestarono soccorso a Davide contro i predoni, poichè erano tutti uomini fortissimi e furon fatti capi dell'esercito.	21 They helped David against the band of raiders; for they were all mighty men of valor, and were commanders in the army.
22 E ogni giorno venivano persone a Davide per porgergli aiuto, fino a che il loro numero fu assai grande, quasi come un esercito di Dio.	22 For from day to day men kept coming to David to help him, until there was a great army, like an army of God.
23 Questo è il numero dei principi dell'esercito, che vennero a Davide quando si trovava in Ebron, per trasferire a lui il regno di Saul secondo la parola del Signore.	23 These are the numbers of the divisions of the armed troops, who came to David in Hebron, to turn the kingdom of Saul over to him, according to the word of the LORD.
24 Seimilaottocento uomini di Giuda armati di scudo e di lancia, atti alla guerra.	24 The men of Judah bearing shield and spear were six thousand eight hundred armed troops.
25 Settemilacento dei figli di Simeone, uomini fortissimi per la guerra.	25 Of the Simeonites, mighty men of valor for war, seven thousand one hundred.
26 Quattromilaseicento dei figli di Levi,	26 Of the Levites four thousand six hundred.
27 e ancora Joiada, principe della stirpe di Aronne, con tremilasettecento uomini.	27 The prince Jehoiada, of the house of Aaron, and with him three thousand seven hundred.
28 Parimenti Sadoc, giovane d'ottima indole e ventidue principi della casa del padre suo.	28 Zadok, a young man mighty in valor, and twenty-two commanders from his own father's house.
29 Dei figli di Beniamin tremila fratelli di Saul, poichè la maggior parte di essi rimaneva ancora fedele alla casa di Saul.	29 Of the Benjaminites, the kinsmen of Saul, three thousand, of whom the majority had hitherto kept their allegiance to the house of Saul.
30 Dei figli di Efraim ventimilaottocento, tutti uomini dotati di grande forza e celebri nella loro parentela.	30 Of the Ephraimites twenty thousand eight hundred, mighty men of valor, famous men in their fathers' houses.
31 Della mezza tribù di Manasse diciottomila, designati nominatamente per proclamare re Davide.	31 Of the half-tribe of Manasseh eighteen thousand, who were expressly named to come and make David king.
32 Dei figli di Issacar, uomini istruiti che conoscevano tutti i tempi per comandare ciò che dovesse fare Israele, il numero di duecento principi; mentre tutto il resto della tribù si atteneva ai consigli di costoro.	32 Of Issachar men who had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do, two hundred chiefs, and all their kinsmen under their command.
33 Della tribù di Zabulon vennero in aiuto con semplicità di cuore cinquantamila uomini, in grado di andare alla guerra e di schierarsi muniti di tutte le armi necessarie.	33 Of Zebulun fifty thousand seasoned troops, equipped for battle with all the weapons of war, to help David with singleness of purpose.
34 Della tribù di Neftali vennero mille principi e con loro trentasettemila uomini armati di scudo e lancia.	34 Of Naphtali a thousand commanders with whom were thirty-seven thousand men armed with shield and spear.
35 Della tribù di Dan gli armati per la guerra furono ventottomilaseicento.	35 Of the Danites twenty-eight thousand six hundred men equipped for battle.
36 Della tribù di Aser quelli che erano pronti per andare alla guerra e per schierarsi con l'esercito furono quarantamila.	36 Of Asher forty thousand seasoned troops ready for battle.
37 Al di là del Giordano, dei figli di Ruben, di Gad e della mezza tribù di Manasse gli uomini forniti di tutte le armi da guerra erano centoventimila.	37 Of the Reubenites and Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh from beyond the Jordan, one hundred and twenty thousand men armed with all the weapons of war.
38 Tutti questi guerrieri pronti a combattere con animo risoluto vennero a Ebron per stabilire Davide re di tutto Israele. Ma anche il resto d'Israele era unanime nel voler Davide re.	38 All these, men of war, arrayed in battle order, came to Hebron with full intent to make David king over all Israel; likewise all the rest of Israel were of a single mind to make David king.
39 Stettero colà presso Davide tre giorni a mangiare e bere, poichè i loro fratelli avevano tutto preparato.	39 And they were there with David for three days, eating and drinking, for their brethren had made preparation for them.
40 Ma anche quelli che stavano accanto a loro, perfino quei di Issacar, di Zabulon e di Neftali, aveano portato sugli asini, sui cammelli, sui muli, sui buoi, pane per mangiare, farina, fichi secchi, uva passa, vino, olio, buoi, arieti, in grande quantità, perchè Israele era in gran gioia.	40 And also their neighbors, from as far as Issachar and Zebulun and Naphtali, came bringing food on asses and on camels and on mules and on oxen, abundant provisions of meal, cakes of figs, clusters of raisins, and wine and oil, oxen and sheep, for there was joy in Israel.
