BIBBIA RICCIOTTI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 - Costoro vennero da Davide in Siceleg, quando ancora egli fuggiva da Saul, figliuolo di Cis. Essi erano assai forti e valenti guerrieri.	1 These are the men who rallied to David at Ziklag while he was stil being kept away from Saul son ofKish; they were among the champions, the warriors.
2 Erano arcieri e con ambedue le mani lanciavano sassi con la fionda e scoccavan frecce. Essi erano di Beniamin del numero dei fratelli di Saul.	2 They were equipped with bows and could sling stones or shoot arrows from the bow with either righthand or left. Of Saul's fellow-tribesmen from Benjamin:
3 Capo era Aiezer e Joas figli di Samaa di Gabaa e Jaziel e Fallet, figli di Azmot, Baraca e Jeu di Anatot,	3 Ahiezer the leader, and Joash, sons of Hassemar of Gibeah, Jeziel and Peleth, sons of Azmaveth,Berachah and Jehu of Anathoth,

8 Anche della tribù di Gad, uomini valentissimi e ottimi guerrieri, armati di scudo e di lancia si erano rifugiati presso Davide, quando si teneva nascosto nel deserto. Le loro facce erano simili a quelle dei leoni ed erano veloci come i caprioli delle montagne.	8 Joelah, Zebadiah, sons of Jeroham of Gedor.
9 Ezer fu loro capo, Obdia il secondo, Eliab il terzo,	9 From the Gadites, some good, capable fighting men defected and came to David at the stronghold inthe desert -- al skil ed with shield and spear, fierce as lions and nimble as mountain gazel es.
10 Masmana il quarto, Jeremia il quinto,	10 Ezer was the leader, Obadiah second, Eliab third,
11 Eti il sesto, Eliel il settimo,	11 Mishmannah fourth, Jeremiah fifth,
12 Joanan l'ottavo, Elzebad il nono,	12 Attai sixth, Eliel seventh,
13 Jeremia il decimo, Macbanai l'undicesimo.	13 Johanan eighth, Elzabad ninth,
14 Questi, appartenenti alla tribù di Gad, erano principi dell'esercito; l'ultimo di essi comandava a cento soldati e il primo a mille.	14 Jeremiah tenth, Machbannai eleventh.
15 Questi son quelli che passarono il Giordano nel primo mese, quando suole straripare sulle sue sponde, e misero in fuga tutti quelli che abitavano nelle valli poste a oriente e a occidente [del fiume].	15 These Gadites were the leaders of the troops, the least of them a match for a hundred men and thegreatest a match for a thousand.
16 Vi furono anche dei figli di Beniamin e di Giuda che si portaron da Davide mentre era nella fortezza.	16 These were the men who once crossed the Jordan in the first month, when it had overflowed itsbanks and had driven out al the lowlanders to east and west.
17 Uscito Davide incontro a loro disse: «Se voi venite a me con buone intenzioni per porgermi aiuto, il mio cuore sia unito al vostro; se invece mi insidiate a vantaggio de' miei avversari, mentre io non ho commesso alcuna violenza, il Dio dei padri nostri veda e giudichi».	17 Some of the Benjaminites and Judahites also joined David at the stronghold.
18 Amasai, uno dei principi fra i trenta, venne investito dallo spirito e disse: «Noi siamo tuoi, o Davide, e siamo con te, o figliuolo di Isai; pace a te, e pace a chi ti porge aiuto, poichè il tuo Dio ti porge aiuto». E Davide li accolse e li costituì principi della truppa.	18 When David came forward to meet them, he responded to them by saying, 'If you have come to mewith peaceful intent to help me, you will find me a good friend. But if it is to betray me to my enemies, seeing thatI have done nothing wrong, may the God of our ancestors take note and condemn you.'
19 Anche dei figli di Manasse passarono a Davide, quando coi Filistei veniva a combattere contro Saul. Non combattè però con essi, poichè i principi dei Filistei, dopo essersi consigliati tra loro, lo rinviarono dicendo: «A prezzo delle nostre teste egli ritornerà al suo padrone Saul».	19 Then the Spirit invested Amasai the leader of the Thirty: 'We are your men, David; with you, son ofJesse! Peace be with you, peace be with you; peace be with those who help you! For your God has helped you!'And David accepted them, including them among his more senior officers.
20 Quando adunque fece ritorno a Siceleg, vennero da lui quei di Manasse: Ednas, Jozabad, Jediel, Micael, Ednas, Jozabad, Eliu e Salati principi delle migliaia di Manasse.	20 Some Manassehites also defected to David as he was setting out with the Philistines to fight Saul.But he did not help the Philistines because, after consultation, their chiefs sent him away, saying, 'He wil defectto his master Saul and it wil cost us our heads!'
21 Questi prestarono soccorso a Davide contro i predoni, poichè erano tutti uomini fortissimi e furon fatti capi dell'esercito.	21 He was on his way to Ziklag when these Manassehites deserted to him: Adnah, Jozabad, Jediael,Michael, Jozabad, Elihu, Zil ethai, chiefs of thousands in Manasseh.
22 E ogni giorno venivano persone a Davide per porgergli aiuto, fino a che il loro numero fu assai grande, quasi come un esercito di Dio.	22 They helped David and his band, since they were al men of standing and became officers in thearmy.
23 Questo è il numero dei principi dell'esercito, che vennero a Davide quando si trovava in Ebron, per trasferire a lui il regno di Saul secondo la parola del Signore.	23 Indeed reinforcements reached David day after day, so that his camp grew into a camp of prodigioussize.
24 Seimilaottocento uomini di Giuda armati di scudo e di lancia, atti alla guerra.	24 These are the numbers of ful y armed men who joined David at Hebron to transfer Saul's kingdom tohim in accordance with the order of Yahweh:
25 Settemilacento dei figli di Simeone, uomini fortissimi per la guerra.	25 Judahites carrying shield and spear: six thousand eight hundred ful y armed warriors;
26 Quattromilaseicento dei figli di Levi,	26 Simeonites; seven thousand one hundred champions valiant in war;
27 e ancora Joiada, principe della stirpe di Aronne, con tremilasettecento uomini.	27 Levites: four thousand six hundred,
28 Parimenti Sadoc, giovane d'ottima indole e ventidue principi della casa del padre suo.	28 in addition to Jehoiada, in command of the Aaronites, with three thousand seven hundred of these,
29 Dei figli di Beniamin tremila fratelli di Saul, poichè la maggior parte di essi rimaneva ancora fedele alla casa di Saul.	29 Zadok, a young and valiant champion, and twenty-two commanders of his family;
30 Dei figli di Efraim ventimilaottocento, tutti uomini dotati di grande forza e celebri nella loro parentela.	30 Benjaminites: three thousand kinsmen of Saul, most of them hitherto in the service of the House ofSaul;
31 Della mezza tribù di Manasse diciottomila, designati nominatamente per proclamare re Davide.	31 Ephraimites: twenty thousand eight hundred valiant champions, men famous in their families;
32 Dei figli di Issacar, uomini istruiti che conoscevano tutti i tempi per comandare ciò che dovesse fare Israele, il numero di duecento principi; mentre tutto il resto della tribù si atteneva ai consigli di costoro.	32 of the half-tribe of Manasseh: eighteen thousand men assigned by name to go and proclaim Davidking;
33 Della tribù di Zabulon vennero in aiuto con semplicità di cuore cinquantamila uomini, in grado di andare alla guerra e di schierarsi muniti di tutte le armi necessarie.	33 Issacharites, sound judges of the times when Israel should take action, and the way to do it: twohundred chiefs and al their kinsmen under their command;
34 Della tribù di Neftali vennero mille principi e con loro trentasettemila uomini armati di scudo e lancia.	34 Zebulunites: fifty thousand men fit for service, marshalled for battle, with warlike weapons of everykind, staunch-hearted auxiliaries;
35 Della tribù di Dan gli armati per la guerra furono ventottomilaseicento.	35 Naphtalites: a thousand commanders, and with them thirty-seven thousand men armed with shieldand spear;
36 Della tribù di Aser quelli che erano pronti per andare alla guerra e per schierarsi con l'esercito furono quarantamila.	36 Danites: twenty-eight thousand six hundred men marshal ed for battle;
37 Al di là del Giordano, dei figli di Ruben, di Gad e della mezza tribù di Manasse gli uomini forniti di tutte le armi da guerra erano centoventimila.	37 Asherites: forty thousand men fit for service, marshalled for battle;
38 Tutti questi guerrieri pronti a combattere con animo risoluto vennero a Ebron per stabilire Davide re di tutto Israele. Ma anche il resto d'Israele era unanime nel voler Davide re.	38 from Transjordan: a hundred and twenty thousand men of Reuben, Gad and the half-tribe ofManasseh, with warlike weapons of every kind.
39 Stettero colà presso Davide tre giorni a mangiare e bere, poichè i loro fratelli avevano tutto preparato.	39 Al these warriors in battle array came to David at Hebron with the firm determination of makingDavid king of al Israel; and the rest of Israel, too, was of one mind in wanting to make David king.
40 Ma anche quelli che stavano accanto a loro, perfino quei di Issacar, di Zabulon e di Neftali, aveano portato sugli asini, sui cammelli, sui muli, sui buoi, pane per mangiare, farina, fichi secchi, uva passa, vino, olio, buoi, arieti, in grande quantità, perchè Israele era in gran gioia.	40 For three days they stayed there with David, eating and drinking, their fellow-tribesmen having madepreparations for them;
	41 their neighbours too, from as far away as Issachar and Zebulun and Naphtali, came bringing food ondonkeys, camels, mules and oxen-supplies of flour, fig cakes, bunches of raisins, wine, oil, quantities of oxenand sheep -- for there was joy in Israel.
