Prima lettera di Pietro 4

BIBBIA CEI 2008	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Avendo Cristo sofferto nel corpo, anche voi dunque armatevi degli stessi sentimenti. Chi ha sofferto nel corpo ha rotto con il peccato,	1 As Christ has undergone bodily suffering, you too should arm yourselves with the same conviction, thatanyone who has undergone bodily suffering has broken with sin,
2 per non vivere più il resto della sua vita nelle passioni umane, ma secondo la volontà di Dio.	2 because for the rest of life on earth that person is ruled not by human passions but only by the wil ofGod.
3 È finito il tempo trascorso nel soddisfare le passioni dei pagani, vivendo nei vizi, nelle cupidigie, nei bagordi, nelle orge, nelle ubriachezze e nel culto illecito degli idoli.	3 You spent quite long enough in the past living the sort of life that gentiles choose to live, behaving in adebauched way, giving way to your passions, drinking to excess, having wild parties and drunken orgies andsacrilegiously worshipping false gods.
4 Per questo trovano strano che voi non corriate insieme con loro verso questo torrente di perdizione, e vi oltraggiano.	4 So people are taken aback that you no longer hurry off with them to join this flood which is rushingdown to ruin, and then abuse you for it.
5 Ma renderanno conto a colui che è pronto a giudicare i vivi e i morti.	5 They wil have to answer for it before the judge who is to judge the living and the dead.
6 Infatti anche ai morti è stata annunciata la buona novella, affinché siano condannati, come tutti gli uomini, nel corpo, ma vivano secondo Dio nello Spirito.	6 And this was why the gospel was brought to the dead as wel , so that, though in their bodies they hadundergone the judgement that faces al humanity, in their spirit they might enjoy the life of God.
7 La fine di tutte le cose è vicina. Siate dunque moderati e sobri, per dedicarvi alla preghiera.	7 The end of all things is near, so keep your minds calm and sober for prayer.
8 Soprattutto conservate tra voi una carità fervente, perché la carità copre una moltitudine di peccati.	8 Above al preserve an intense love for each other, since love covers over many a sin.
9 Praticate l’ospitalità gli uni verso gli altri, senza mormorare.	9 Welcome each other into your houses without grumbling.
10 Ciascuno, secondo il dono ricevuto, lo metta a servizio degli altri, come buoni amministratori della multiforme grazia di Dio.	10 Each one of you has received a special grace, so, like good stewards responsible for all these variedgraces of God, put it at the service of others.
11 Chi parla, lo faccia con parole di Dio; chi esercita un ufficio, lo compia con l’energia ricevuta da Dio, perché in tutto sia glorificato Dio per mezzo di Gesù Cristo, al quale appartengono la gloria e la potenza nei secoli dei secoli. Amen!	11 If anyone is a speaker, let it be as the words of God, if anyone serves, let it be as in strength grantedby God; so that in everything God may receive the glory, through Jesus Christ, since to him alone belong alglory and power for ever and ever. Amen.
12 Carissimi, non meravigliatevi della persecuzione che, come un incendio, è scoppiata in mezzo a voi per mettervi alla prova, come se vi accadesse qualcosa di strano.	12 My dear friends, do not be taken aback at the testing by fire which is taking place among you, asthough something strange were happening to you;
13 Ma, nella misura in cui partecipate alle sofferenze di Cristo, rallegratevi perché anche nella rivelazione della sua gloria possiate rallegrarvi ed esultare.	13 but in so far as you share in the sufferings of Christ, be glad, so that you may enjoy a much greatergladness when his glory is revealed.
14 Beati voi, se venite insultati per il nome di Cristo, perché lo Spirito della gloria, che è Spirito di Dio, riposa su di voi.	14 If you are insulted for bearing Christ's name, blessed are you, for on you rests the Spirit of God, theSpirit of glory.
15 Nessuno di voi abbia a soffrire come omicida o ladro o malfattore o delatore.	15 None of you should ever deserve to suffer for being a murderer, a thief, a criminal or an informer;
16 Ma se uno soffre come cristiano, non ne arrossisca; per questo nome, anzi, dia gloria a Dio.	16 but if any one of you should suffer for being a Christian, then there must be no shame but thanksgiving to God for bearing this name.
17 È questo il momento in cui ha inizio il giudizio a partire dalla casa di Dio; e se incomincia da noi, quale sarà la fine di quelli che non obbediscono al vangelo di Dio?	17 The time has come for the judgement to begin at the household of God; and if it begins with us, whatwil be the end for those who refuse to believe God's gospel?
18 E se il giusto a stento si salverà, che ne sarà dell’empio e del peccatore?	18 If it is hard for the upright to be saved, what wil happen to the wicked and to sinners?
19 Perciò anche quelli che soffrono secondo il volere di Dio, consegnino la loro vita al Creatore fedele, compiendo il bene.	19 So even those whom God allows to suffer should commit themselves to a Creator who is trustworthy,and go on doing good.
