Seconda lettera a Timoteo 2

BIBBIA CEI 2008	NEW JERUSALEM
1 E tu, figlio mio, attingi forza dalla grazia che è in Cristo Gesù:	1 As for you, my dear son, take strength from the grace which is in Christ Jesus.
2 le cose che hai udito da me davanti a molti testimoni, trasmettile a persone fidate, le quali a loro volta siano in grado di insegnare agli altri.	2 Pass on to reliable people what you have heard from me through many witnesses so that they in turn wilbe able to teach others.
3 Come un buon soldato di Gesù Cristo, soffri insieme con me.	3 Bear with your share of difficulties, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus.
4 Nessuno, quando presta servizio militare, si lascia prendere dalle faccende della vita comune, se vuol piacere a colui che lo ha arruolato.	4 No one on active service involves himself in the affairs of civilian life, because he must win the approvalof the man who enlisted him;
5 Anche l’atleta non riceve il premio se non ha lottato secondo le regole.	5 or again someone who enters an athletic contest wins only by competing in the sports -- a prize can bewon only by competing according to the rules;
6 Il contadino, che lavora duramente, dev’essere il primo a raccogliere i frutti della terra.	6 and again, it is the farmer who works hard that has the first claim on any crop that is harvested.
7 Cerca di capire quello che dico, e il Signore ti aiuterà a comprendere ogni cosa.	7 Think over what I have said, and the Lord wil give you ful understanding.
8 Ricòrdati di Gesù Cristo, risorto dai morti, discendente di Davide, come io annuncio nel mio Vangelo,	8 Remember the gospel that I carry, 'Jesus Christ risen from the dead, sprung from the race of David';
9 per il quale soffro fino a portare le catene come un malfattore. Ma la parola di Dio non è incatenata!	9 it is on account of this that I have to put up with suffering, even to being chained like a criminal. ButGod's message cannot be chained up.
10 Perciò io sopporto ogni cosa per quelli che Dio ha scelto, perché anch’essi raggiungano la salvezza che è in Cristo Gesù, insieme alla gloria eterna.	10 So I persevere for the sake of those who are chosen, so that they, too, may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.
11 Questa parola è degna di fede: Se moriamo con lui, con lui anche vivremo;	11 Here is a saying that you can rely on: If we have died with him, then we shal live with him.
12 se perseveriamo, con lui anche regneremo; se lo rinneghiamo, lui pure ci rinnegherà;	12 If we persevere, then we shal reign with him. If we disown him, then he wil disown us.
13 se siamo infedeli, lui rimane fedele, perché non può rinnegare se stesso.	13 If we are faithless, he is faithful still, for he cannot disown his own self.
14 Richiama alla memoria queste cose, scongiurando davanti a Dio che si evitino le vane discussioni, le quali non giovano a nulla se non alla rovina di chi le ascolta.	14 Remind them of this; and tell them in the name of God that there must be no wrangling about words: althat this ever achieves is the destruction of those who are listening.
15 Sfòrzati di presentarti a Dio come una persona degna, un lavoratore che non deve vergognarsi e che dispensa rettamente la parola della verità.	15 Make every effort to present yourself before God as a proven worker who has no need to be ashamed,but who keeps the message of truth on a straight path.
16 Evita le chiacchiere vuote e perverse, perché spingono sempre più all’empietà quelli che le fanno;	16 Have nothing to do with godless philosophical discussions -- they only lead further and further awayfrom true religion.
17 la parola di costoro infatti si propagherà come una cancrena. Fra questi vi sono Imeneo e Filèto,	17 Talk of this kind spreads corruption like gangrene, as in the case of Hymenaeus and Philetus,
18 i quali hanno deviato dalla verità, sostenendo che la risurrezione è già avvenuta e così sconvolgono la fede di alcuni.	18 the men who have gone astray from the truth, claiming that the resurrection has already taken place.They are upsetting some people's faith.
19 Tuttavia le solide fondamenta gettate da Dio resistono e portano questo sigillo: Il Signore conosce quelli che sono suoi, e ancora: Si allontani dall’iniquità chiunque invoca il nome del Signore.	19 However, God's solid foundation-stone stands firm, and this is the seal on it: 'The Lord knows thosewho are his own' and 'Al who cal on the name of the Lord must avoid evil.'
20 In una casa grande però non vi sono soltanto vasi d’oro e d’argento, ma anche di legno e di argilla; alcuni per usi nobili, altri per usi spregevoli.	20 Not al the dishes in a large house are made of gold and silver; some are made of wood orearthenware: the former are held in honour, the latter held cheap.
21 Chi si manterrà puro da queste cose, sarà come un vaso nobile, santificato, utile al padrone di casa, pronto per ogni opera buona.	21 If someone holds himself aloof from these faults I speak of, he wil be a vessel held in honour,dedicated and fit for the Master, ready for any good work.
22 Sta’ lontano dalle passioni della gioventù; cerca la giustizia, la fede, la carità, la pace, insieme a quelli che invocano il Signore con cuore puro.	22 Turn away from the passions of youth, concentrate on uprightness, faith, love and peace, in union withal those who cal on the Lord with a pure heart.
23 Evita inoltre le discussioni sciocche e da ignoranti, sapendo che provocano litigi.	23 Avoid these foolish and undisciplined speculations, understanding that they only give rise to quarrels;
24 Un servo del Signore non deve essere litigioso, ma mite con tutti, capace di insegnare, paziente,	24 and a servant of the Lord must not engage in quarrels, but must be kind to everyone, a good teacher,and patient.
25 dolce nel rimproverare quelli che gli si mettono contro, nella speranza che Dio conceda loro di convertirsi, perché riconoscano la verità	25 He must be gentle when he corrects people who oppose him, in the hope that God may give them achange of mind so that they recognise the truth
26 e rientrino in se stessi, liberandosi dal laccio del diavolo, che li tiene prigionieri perché facciano la sua volontà.	26 and come to their senses, escaping the trap of the devil who made them his captives and subjectedthem to his will.
