Lettera ai Galati 5

BIBBIA CEI 2008	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Cristo ci ha liberati per la libertà! State dunque saldi e non lasciatevi imporre di nuovo il giogo della schiavitù.	1 Christ set us free, so that we should remain free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be fastenedagain to the yoke of slavery.
2 Ecco, io, Paolo, vi dico: se vi fate circoncidere, Cristo non vi gioverà a nulla.	2 I, Paul, give you my word that if you accept circumcision, Christ wil be of no benefit to you at al .
3 E dichiaro ancora una volta a chiunque si fa circoncidere che egli è obbligato ad osservare tutta quanta la Legge.	3 I give my assurance once again to every man who accepts circumcision that he is under obligation tokeep the whole Law;
4 Non avete più nulla a che fare con Cristo voi che cercate la giustificazione nella Legge; siete decaduti dalla grazia.	4 once you seek to be reckoned as upright through the Law, then you have separated yourself fromChrist, you have fal en away from grace.
5 Quanto a noi, per lo Spirito, in forza della fede, attendiamo fermamente la giustizia sperata.	5 We are led by the Spirit to wait in the confident hope of saving justice through faith,
6 Perché in Cristo Gesù non è la circoncisione che vale o la non circoncisione, ma la fede che si rende operosa per mezzo della carità.	6 since in Christ Jesus it is not being circumcised or being uncircumcised that can effect anything -- onlyfaith working through love.
7 Correvate così bene! Chi vi ha tagliato la strada, voi che non obbedite più alla verità?	7 You began your race wel ; who came to obstruct you and stop you obeying the truth?
8 Questa persuasione non viene sicuramente da colui che vi chiama!	8 It was certainly not any prompting from him who called you!
9 Un po’ di lievito fa fermentare tutta la pasta.	9 A pinch of yeast ferments the whole batch.
10 Io sono fiducioso per voi, nel Signore, che non penserete diversamente; ma chi vi turba subirà la condanna, chiunque egli sia.	10 But I feel sure that, united in the Lord, you wil not be led astray, and that anyone who makes troublewith you will be condemned, no matter who he is.
11 Quanto a me, fratelli, se predico ancora la circoncisione, perché sono tuttora perseguitato? Infatti, sarebbe annullato lo scandalo della croce.	11 And I, brothers -- if I were stil preaching circumcision, why should I still be persecuted? For then theobstacle which is the cross would have no point any more.
12 Farebbero meglio a farsi mutilare quelli che vi gettano nello scompiglio!	12 I could wish that those who are unsettling you would go further and mutilate themselves.
13 Voi infatti, fratelli, siete stati chiamati a libertà. Che questa libertà non divenga però un pretesto per la carne; mediante l’amore siate invece a servizio gli uni degli altri.	13 After al , brothers, you were called to be free; do not use your freedom as an opening for self-indulgence, but be servants to one another in love,
14 Tutta la Legge infatti trova la sua pienezza in un solo precetto: Amerai il tuo prossimo come te stesso.	14 since the whole of the Law is summarised in the one commandment: You must love your neighbour asyourself.
15 Ma se vi mordete e vi divorate a vicenda, badate almeno di non distruggervi del tutto gli uni gli altri!	15 If you go snapping at one another and tearing one another to pieces, take care: you will be eaten up byone another.
16 Vi dico dunque: camminate secondo lo Spirito e non sarete portati a soddisfare il desiderio della carne.	16 Instead, I tel you, be guided by the Spirit, and you wil no longer yield to self-indulgence.
17 La carne infatti ha desideri contrari allo Spirito e lo Spirito ha desideri contrari alla carne; queste cose si oppongono a vicenda, sicché voi non fate quello che vorreste.	17 The desires of self-indulgence are always in opposition to the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are inopposition to self-indulgence: they are opposites, one against the other; that is how you are prevented fromdoing the things that you want to.
18 Ma se vi lasciate guidare dallo Spirito, non siete sotto la Legge.	18 But when you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law.
19 Del resto sono ben note le opere della carne: fornicazione, impurità, dissolutezza,	19 When self-indulgence is at work the results are obvious: sexual vice, impurity, and sensuality,
20 idolatria, stregonerie, inimicizie, discordia, gelosia, dissensi, divisioni, fazioni,	20 the worship of false gods and sorcery; antagonisms and rivalry, jealousy, bad temper and quarrels,disagreements,
21 invidie, ubriachezze, orge e cose del genere. Riguardo a queste cose vi preavviso, come già ho detto: chi le compie non erediterà il regno di Dio.	21 factions and malice, drunkenness, orgies and al such things. And about these, I tel you now as I havetold you in the past, that people who behave in these ways wil not inherit the kingdom of God.
22 Il frutto dello Spirito invece è amore, gioia, pace, magnanimità, benevolenza, bontà, fedeltà, mitezza, dominio di sé;	22 On the other hand the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, trustfulness,
23 contro queste cose non c’è Legge.	23 gentleness and self-control; no law can touch such things as these.
24 Quelli che sono di Cristo Gesù hanno crocifisso la carne con le sue passioni e i suoi desideri.	24 All who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified self with al its passions and its desires.
25 Perciò se viviamo dello Spirito, camminiamo anche secondo lo Spirito.	25 Since we are living by the Spirit, let our behaviour be guided by the Spirit
26 Non cerchiamo la vanagloria, provocandoci e invidiandoci gli uni gli altri.	26 and let us not be conceited or provocative and envious of one another.
