BIBBIA CEI 2008	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Il Signore parlò a Mosè: «Su, sali di qui tu e il popolo che hai fatto uscire dalla terra d’Egitto, verso la terra che ho promesso con giuramento ad Abramo, a Isacco e a Giacobbe, dicendo: “La darò alla tua discendenza”.	1 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Leave, move on from here, you and the people whom you have broughthere from Egypt, to the country that I swore to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob that I would give to their descendants.
2 Manderò davanti a te un angelo e scaccerò il Cananeo, l’Amorreo, l’Ittita, il Perizzita, l’Eveo e il Gebuseo.	2 I shal send an angel in front of you and drive out the Canaanites, the Amorites, the Hittites, thePerizzites, the Hivites and the Jebusites.
3 Va’ pure verso la terra dove scorrono latte e miele. Ma io non verrò in mezzo a te, per non doverti sterminare lungo il cammino, perché tu sei un popolo di dura cervice».	3 Move on towards a country flowing with milk and honey, but I myself shal not be going with you or Imight annihilate you on the way, for you are an obstinate people.'
4 Il popolo udì questa triste notizia e tutti fecero lutto: nessuno più indossò i suoi ornamenti.	4 On hearing these stern words the people went into mourning and no one wore his ornaments.
5 Il Signore disse a Mosè: «Riferisci agli Israeliti: “Voi siete un popolo di dura cervice; se per un momento io venissi in mezzo a te, io ti sterminerei. Ora togliti i tuoi ornamenti, così saprò che cosa dovrò farti”».	5 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Say to the Israelites, "You are an obstinate people. If I were to go withyou even for a moment, I should annihilate you. So now take off your ornaments, and then I shal decide how todeal with you!" '
6 Gli Israeliti si spogliarono dei loro ornamenti dal monte Oreb in poi.	6 So, from Mount Horeb onwards, the Israelites stripped themselves of their ornaments.
7 Mosè prendeva la tenda e la piantava fuori dell’accampamento, a una certa distanza dall’accampamento, e l’aveva chiamata tenda del convegno; appunto a questa tenda del convegno, posta fuori dell’accampamento, si recava chiunque volesse consultare il Signore.	7 Moses used to take the Tent and pitch it outside the camp, far away from the camp. He called it theTent of Meeting. Anyone who wanted to consult Yahweh would go out to the Tent of Meeting, outside the camp.
8 Quando Mosè usciva per recarsi alla tenda, tutto il popolo si alzava in piedi, stando ciascuno all’ingresso della sua tenda: seguivano con lo sguardo Mosè, finché non fosse entrato nella tenda.	8 Whenever Moses went out to the Tent, the people would al stand up and every man would stand atthe door of his tent and watch Moses until he went into the Tent.
9 Quando Mosè entrava nella tenda, scendeva la colonna di nube e restava all’ingresso della tenda, e parlava con Mosè.	9 And whenever Moses went into the Tent, the pil ar of cloud would come down and station itself at theentrance to the Tent, while Yahweh spoke with Moses.
10 Tutto il popolo vedeva la colonna di nube, che stava all’ingresso della tenda, e tutti si alzavano e si prostravano ciascuno all’ingresso della propria tenda.	10 The people could al see the pil ar of cloud stationed at the entrance to the Tent and the people wouldal stand up and bow low, each at the door of his tent.
11 Il Signore parlava con Mosè faccia a faccia, come uno parla con il proprio amico. Poi questi tornava nell’accampamento, mentre il suo inserviente, il giovane Giosuè figlio di Nun, non si allontanava dall’interno della tenda.	11 Yahweh would talk to Moses face to face, as a man talks to his friend, and afterwards he would comeback to the camp, but the young man who was his servant, Joshua son of Nun, never left the inside of the Tent.
12 Mosè disse al Signore: «Vedi, tu mi ordini: “Fa’ salire questo popolo”, ma non mi hai indicato chi manderai con me; eppure hai detto: “Ti ho conosciuto per nome, anzi hai trovato grazia ai miei occhi”.	12 Moses said to Yahweh, 'Look, you say to me, "Make the people move on," but you have not told mewhom you are going to send with me, although you have said, "I know you by name and you enjoy my favour."
13 Ora, se davvero ho trovato grazia ai tuoi occhi, indicami la tua via, così che io ti conosca e trovi grazia ai tuoi occhi; considera che questa nazione è il tuo popolo».	13 If indeed I enjoy your favour, please show me your ways, so that I understand you and continue toenjoy your favour; consider too that this nation is your people.'
14 Rispose: «Il mio volto camminerà con voi e ti darò riposo».	14 Yahweh then said, 'I myself shall go with you and I shall give you rest.'
15 Riprese: «Se il tuo volto non camminerà con noi, non farci salire di qui.	15 To which he said, 'If you do not come yourself, do not make us move on from here,
16 Come si saprà dunque che ho trovato grazia ai tuoi occhi, io e il tuo popolo, se non nel fatto che tu cammini con noi? Così saremo distinti, io e il tuo popolo, da tutti i popoli che sono sulla faccia della terra».	16 for how can it be known that I and my people enjoy your favour, if not by your coming with us? By thiswe shal be marked out, I and your people, from al the peoples on the face of the earth.'
17 Disse il Signore a Mosè: «Anche quanto hai detto io farò, perché hai trovato grazia ai miei occhi e ti ho conosciuto per nome».	17 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Again I shal do what you have asked, because you enjoy my favourand because I know you by name.'
18 Gli disse: «Mostrami la tua gloria!».	18 He then said, 'Please show me your glory.'
19 Rispose: «Farò passare davanti a te tutta la mia bontà e proclamerò il mio nome, Signore, davanti a te. A chi vorrò far grazia farò grazia e di chi vorrò aver misericordia avrò misericordia».	19 Yahweh said, 'I shal make al my goodness pass before you, and before you I shal pronounce thename Yahweh; and I am gracious to those to whom I am gracious and I take pity on those on whom I take pity.
20 Soggiunse: «Ma tu non potrai vedere il mio volto, perché nessun uomo può vedermi e restare vivo».	20 But my face', he said, 'you cannot see, for no human being can see me and survive.'
21 Aggiunse il Signore: «Ecco un luogo vicino a me. Tu starai sopra la rupe:	21 Then Yahweh said, 'Here is a place near me. You will stand on the rock,
22 quando passerà la mia gloria, io ti porrò nella cavità della rupe e ti coprirò con la mano, finché non sarò passato.	22 and when my glory passes by, I shal put you in a cleft of the rock and shield you with my hand until Ihave gone past.
23 Poi toglierò la mano e vedrai le mie spalle, ma il mio volto non si può vedere».	23 Then I shal take my hand away and you will see my back; but my face wil not be seen.'
