1 Giòsafat si addormentò con i suoi padri e fu sepolto con loro nella città di Davide. Al suo posto divenne re suo figlio Ioram.	1 Jehoshaphat rested with his ancestors; he was buried with them in the City of David. Jehoram, his son, succeeded him as king.
2 I suoi fratelli, figli di Giòsafat, erano Azaria, Iechièl, Zaccaria, Azariau, Michele e Sefatia; tutti costoro erano figli di Giòsafat re di Israele.	2 His brothers, sons of Jehoshaphat, were Azariah, Jehiel, Zechariah, Azariah, Michael and Shephatiah; all these were sons of King Jehoshaphat of Judah.
3 Il padre aveva dato loro ricchi doni: argento, oro e oggetti preziosi insieme con fortezze in Giuda; il regno però l'aveva assegnato a Ioram, perché era il primogenito.	3 Their father gave them numerous gifts of silver, gold and precious objects, together with fortified cities in Judah, but the kingship he gave to Jehoram because he was the first-born.
4 Ioram prese in possesso il regno di suo padre e quando si fu rafforzato, uccise di spada tutti i suoi fratelli e, con loro, anche alcuni ufficiali di Israele.	4 When Jehoram had come into his father's kingdom and had consolidated his power, he put to the sword all his brothers and also some of the princes of Israel.
5 Quando divenne re, Ioram aveva trentadue anni; regnò in Gerusalemme otto anni.	5 Jehoram was thirty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem.
6 Seguì la strada dei re di Israele, come aveva fatto la casa di Acab, perché sua moglie era figlia di Acab. Egli fece ciò che è male agli occhi del Signore,	6 He conducted himself like the kings of Israel of the line of Ahab, because one of Ahab's daughters was his wife. He did evil in the sight of the LORD,
7 ma il Signore non volle distruggere la casa di Davide a causa dell'alleanza che aveva conclusa con Davide e della promessa fattagli di lasciargli sempre una lampada, per lui e per i suoi figli.	7 but the LORD would not destroy the house of David because of the covenant he had made with David and because of his promise to give him and his sons a lamp for all time.
8 Durante il suo regno Edom si ribellò a Giuda e si elesse un re.	8 During his time Edom revolted against the sovereignty of Judah; they chose a king of their own.
9 Ioram con i suoi ufficiali e con tutti i carri passò la frontiera e, assalendoli di notte, sconfisse gli Idumei che l'avevano accerchiato, insieme con gli ufficiali dei suoi carri.	9 Thereupon Jehoram crossed over with his officers and all the chariots he had. He arose by night and broke through the Edomites when they had surrounded him and the commanders of his chariots.
10 Ma Edom, ribellatosi a Giuda, ancora oggi è indipendente. In quel tempo anche Libna si ribellò al suo dominio, perché Ioram aveva abbandonato il Signore, Dio dei suoi padri.	10 However, Edom has continued in revolt against the sovereignty of Judah down to the present time. Libnah also revolted at that time against Jehoram's sovereignty because he had forsaken the LORD, the God of his fathers.
11 Egli inoltre eresse alture nelle città di Giuda, spinse alla idolatria gli abitanti di Gerusalemme e fece traviare Giuda.	11 He also set up high places in the mountains of Judah; he led the inhabitants of Jerusalem into idolatry and seduced Judah.
12 Gli giunse da parte del profeta Elia uno scritto che diceva: "Dice il Signore, Dio di Davide tuo padre: Perché non hai seguito la condotta di Giòsafat tuo padre, né la condotta di Asa re di Giuda,	12 He received a letter from the prophet Elijah with this message: "Thus says the LORD, the God of your ancestor David: 'Because you have not followed the path of your father Jehoshaphat, nor of Asa, king of Judah,
13 ma hai seguito piuttosto la condotta dei re di Israele, hai spinto alla idolatria Giuda e gli abitanti di Gerusalemme, come ha fatto la casa di Acab, e inoltre hai ucciso i tuoi fratelli, cioè la famiglia di tuo padre, uomini migliori di te,	13 but instead have walked in the way of the kings of Israel and have led Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem into idolatry, as did the house of Ahab, and also because you have murdered your brothers of your father's house who were better than you,
14 ecco, il Signore farà cadere un grave disastro sul tuo popolo, sui tuoi figli, sulle tue mogli e su tutti i tuoi beni.	14 the LORD will strike your people, your children, your wives, and all that is yours with a great plague;
15 Tu soffrirai gravi malattie, una malattia intestinale tale che per essa le tue viscere ti usciranno nel giro di due anni".	15 and you shall have severe pains from a disease in your bowels, while your bowels issue forth because of the disease, day after day.'"
16 Il Signore risvegliò contro Ioram l'ostilità dei Filistei e degli Arabi che abitano al fianco degli Etiopi.	16 Then the LORD stirred up against Jehoram the animosity of the Philistines and of the Arabs who bordered on the Ethiopians.
17 Costoro attaccarono Giuda, vi penetrarono e razziarono tutti i beni della reggia, asportando anche i figli e le mogli del re. Non gli rimase nessun figlio, se non Ioacaz il più piccolo.	17 They came up against Judah, invaded it, and carried away all the wealth found in the king's palace, along with his sons and his wives; there was left to him only one son, Jehoahaz, his youngest.
18 Dopo tutto questo, il Signore lo colpì con una malattia intestinale inguaribile.	18 After these events, the LORD afflicted him with an incurable disease of the bowels.
19 Andò avanti per più di un anno; verso la fine del secondo anno, gli uscirono le viscere per la gravità della malattia e così morì fra dolori atroci. E per lui il popolo non bruciò aromi, come si erano bruciati per i suoi padri.	19 As time went on until a period of two years had elapsed, his bowels issued forth because of the disease and he died in great pain. His people did not made a pyre for him like that of his fathers.
20 Quando divenne re, egli aveva trentadue anni; regnò otto anni in Gerusalemme. Se ne andò senza lasciare rimpianti; lo seppellirono nella città di Davide, ma non nei sepolcri dei re.	20 He was thirty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem. He departed unloved and was buried in the City of David, but not in the tombs of the kings.
