1 Ora si trovava là un uomo iniquo chiamato Sèba, figlio di Bicrì, un Beniaminita, il quale suonò la tromba e disse: "Non abbiamo alcuna parte con Davide e non abbiamo un'eredità con il figlio di Iesse. Ognuno alle proprie tende, Israele!".	1 Now there happened to be there a worthless fellow, whose name was Sheba, the son of Bichri, a Benjaminite; and he blew the trumpet, and said, "We have no portion in David, and we have no inheritance in the son of Jesse; every man to his tents, O Israel!"
2 Tutti gli Israeliti si allontanarono da Davide per seguire Sèba, figlio di Bicrì; ma gli uomini di Giuda rimasero attaccati al loro re e lo accompagnarono dal Giordano fino a Gerusalemme.	2 So all the men of Israel withdrew from David, and followed Sheba the son of Bichri; but the men of Judah followed their king steadfastly from the Jordan to Jerusalem.
3 Davide entrò nella reggia a Gerusalemme. Il re prese le dieci concubine che aveva lasciate a custodia della reggia e le mise in un domicilio sorvegliato; egli somministrava loro gli alimenti, ma non si accostava loro; rimasero così recluse fino al giorno della loro morte, in stato di vedovanza perenne.	3 And David came to his house at Jerusalem; and the king took the ten concubines whom he had left to care for the house, and put them in a house under guard, and provided for them, but did not go in to them. So they were shut up until the day of their death, living as if in widowhood.
4 Poi il re disse ad Amasà: "Radunami tutti gli uomini di Giuda in tre giorni; poi vieni qui".	4 Then the king said to Amasa, "Call the men of Judah together to me within three days, and be here yourself."
5 Amasà dunque partì per adunare gli uomini di Giuda; ma tardò più del tempo fissato.	5 So Amasa went to summon Judah; but he delayed beyond the set time which had been appointed him.
6 Allora Davide disse ad Abisài: "Sèba figlio di Bicrì ci farà ora più male di Assalonne; prendi i servi del tuo signore e inseguilo, perché non trovi fortezze e ci sfugga".	6 And David said to Abishai, "Now Sheba the son of Bichri will do us more harm than Absalom; take your lord's servants and pursue him, lest he get himself fortified cities, and cause us trouble. "
7 Abisài uscì per la spedizione, seguito dalla gente di Ioab, dai Cretei, dai Peletei e da tutti i prodi; uscirono da Gerusalemme per inseguire Sèba figlio di Bicrì.	7 And there went out after Abishai, Joab and the Cherethites and the Pelethites, and all the mighty men; they went out from Jerusalem to pursue Sheba the son of Bichri.
8 Si trovavano presso la grande pietra che è in Gàbaon, quando Amasà venne loro incontro. Ioab indossava la veste militare, sopra la quale portava la cintura con la spada pendente dai fianchi nel fodero; egli la fece uscire e cadere.	8 When they were at the great stone which is in Gibeon, Amasa came to meet them. Now Joab was wearing a soldier's garment, and over it was a girdle with a sword in its sheath fastened upon his loins, and as he went forward it fell out.
9 Ioab disse ad Amasà: "Stai bene, fratello mio?" e con la destra prese Amasà per la barba per baciarlo.	9 And Joab said to Amasa, "Is it well with you, my brother?" And Joab took Amasa by the beard with his right hand to kiss him.
10 Amasà non fece attenzione alla spada che Ioab aveva nell'altra mano; Ioab lo colpì al basso ventre e ne sparse le viscere a terra; non lo colpì una seconda volta perché era già morto. Poi Ioab e Abisài suo fratello inseguirono Sèba, figlio di Bicrì.	10 But Amasa did not observe the sword which was in Joab's hand; so Joab struck him with it in the body, and shed his bowels to the ground, without striking a second blow; and he died. Then Joab and Abishai his brother pursued Sheba the son of Bichri.
11 Uno dei giovani di Ioab era rimasto presso Amasà e diceva: "Chi ama Ioab e chi è per Davide segua Ioab!".	11 And one of Joab's men took his stand by Amasa, and said, "Whoever favors Joab, and whoever is for David, let him follow Joab."
12 Intanto Amasà si rotolava nel sangue in mezzo alla strada e quell'uomo si accorse che tutto il popolo si fermava. Allora trascinò Amasà fuori della strada in un campo e gli buttò addosso una veste, perché quanti gli arrivavano vicino lo vedevano e si fermavano.	12 And Amasa lay wallowing in his blood in the highway. And any one who came by, seeing him, stopped; and when the man saw that all the people stopped, he carried Amasa out of the highway into the field, and threw a garment over him.
13 Quando esso fu tolto dalla strada, tutti passarono al seguito di Ioab per dare la caccia a Sèba, figlio di Bicrì.	13 When he was taken out of the highway, all the people went on after Joab to pursue Sheba the son of Bichri.
14 Attraversarono il territorio di tutte le tribù d'Israele fino ad Abel-Bet-Maacà, dove tutti quelli della famiglia di Bicrì erano stati convocati ed erano entrati al seguito di Sèba.	14 And Sheba passed through all the tribes of Israel to Abel of Beth-maacah; and all the Bichrites assembled, and followed him in.
15 Vennero dunque, assediarono Sèba in Abel-Bet-Maacà e innalzarono contro la città un terrapieno; tutto il popolo che era con Ioab scavava per demolire le mura.	15 And all the men who were with Joab came and besieged him in Abel of Beth-maacah; they cast up a mound against the city, and it stood against the rampart; and they were battering the wall, to throw it down.
16 Allora una donna saggia gridò dalla città: "Ascoltate, ascoltate! Dite a Ioab di avvicinarsi, gli voglio parlare!".	16 Then a wise woman called from the city, "Hear! Hear! Tell Joab, 'Come here, that I may speak to you.'"
17 Quando egli si fu avvicinato, la donna gli chiese: "Sei tu Ioab?". Egli rispose: "Sì". Allora essa gli disse: "Ascolta la parola della tua schiava". Egli rispose: "Ascolto".	17 And he came near her; and the woman said, "Are you Joab?" He answered, "I am." Then she said to him, "Listen to the words of your maidservant." And he answered, "I am listening."
18 Riprese: "Una volta si soleva dire: Si interroghi bene ad Abèl e a Dan per sapere se sono venute meno le costumanze	18 Then she said, "They were wont to say in old time, 'Let them but ask counsel at Abel'; and so they settled a matter.
19 stabilite dai fedeli d'Israele. Tu cerchi di far perire una città che è una madre in Israele. Perché vuoi distruggere l'eredità del Signore?".	19 I am one of those who are peaceable and faithful in Israel; you seek to destroy a city which is a mother in Israel; why will you swallow up the heritage of the LORD?"
20 Ioab rispose: "Lungi, lungi da me l'idea di distruggere e di rovinare.	20 Joab answered, "Far be it from me, far be it, that I should swallow up or destroy!
21 La questione è diversa: un uomo delle montagne di Èfraim, chiamato Sèba, figlio di Bicrì, ha alzato la mano contro il re Davide. Consegnatemi lui solo e io mi allontanerò dalla città". La donna disse a Ioab: "Ecco, la sua testa ti sarà gettata dall'alto delle mura".	21 That is not true. But a man of the hill country of Ephraim, called Sheba the son of Bichri, has lifted up his hand against King David; give up him alone, and I will withdraw from the city." And the woman said to Joab, "Behold, his head shall be thrown to you over the wall."
22 Allora la donna rientrò in città e parlò a tutto il popolo con saggezza; così quelli tagliarono la testa a Sèba, figlio di Bicrì, e la gettarono a Ioab. Egli fece suonare la tromba; tutti si dispersero lontano dalla città e ognuno andò alla propria tenda. Poi Ioab tornò a Gerusalemme presso il re.	22 Then the woman went to all the people in her wisdom. And they cut off the head of Sheba the son of Bichri, and threw it out to Joab. So he blew the trumpet, and they dispersed from the city, every man to his home. And Joab returned to Jerusalem to the king.
23 Ioab era a capo di tutto l'esercito d'Israele; Benaià, figlio di Ioiadà, era capo dei Cretei e dei Peletei;	23 Now Joab was in command of all the army of Israel; and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was in command of the Cherethites and the Pelethites;
24 Adoràm sovrintendeva ai lavori forzati; Giosafat, figlio di Achilùd, era archivista;	24 and Adoram was in charge of the forced labor; and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was the recorder;
25 Seraià era scriba; Zadòk ed Ebiatàr erano sacerdoti e anche Ira lo Iairita era ministro di Davide.	25 and Sheva was secretary; and Zadok and Abiathar were priests;
	26 and Ira the Jairite was also David's priest.
