JERUSALEM	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Mon fils, garde mes paroles, conserve chez toi mes préceptes.	1 My child, keep my words, and treasure my precepts,
2 Garde mes préceptes et tu vivras, que mon enseignement soit comme la pupille de tes yeux.	2 keep my precepts and you wil live, keep my teaching as the apple of your eye.
3 Fixe-les à tes doigts, inscris-les sur la tablette de ton coeur.	3 Bind these to your fingers, write them on the tablet of your heart.
4 Dis à la sagesse: "Tu es ma soeur!" Donne le nom de parente à l'intelligence,	4 Say to Wisdom, 'You are my sister!' Cal Understanding your relation,
5 pour te garder de la femme étrangère, de l'inconnue aux paroles doucereuses.	5 to save yourself from the woman that belongs to another, from the stranger, with her seductive words.
6 Comme j'étais à la fenêtre de ma demeure, j'ai regardé par le treillis	6 While I was at the window of my house, I was looking out through the lattice

11 Elle est hardie et insolente; ses pieds ne peuvent tenir à la maison.	11 She is loud and brazen; her feet cannot rest at home.
12 Tantôt dans la rue, tantôt sur les places, à tous les coins elle se tient aux aguets.	12 Once in the street, once in the square, she lurks at every corner.
13 Elle le saisit et l'embrasse et d'un air effronté lui dit:	13 She catches hold of him, she kisses him, the bold-faced creature says to him,
14 "J'avais à offrir un sacrifice de communion, j'ai accompli mes voeux aujourd'hui,	14 'I had to offer a communion sacrifice, I have discharged my vows today;
15 voilà pourquoi je suis sortie à ta rencontre pour te chercher, et je t'ai trouvé.	15 that is why I came out to meet you, to look for you, and now I have found you.
16 J'ai recouvert mon divan de couvertures, de tissus brodés, d'étoffe d'Egypte,	16 I have spread coverlets over my divan, embroidered stuff, Egyptian material,
17 j'ai aspergé ma couche de myrrhe, d'aloès et de cinnamome.	17 I have sprinkled my bed with myrrh, with aloes and cinnamon.
18 Viens! Enivrons-nous d'amour jusqu'au matin! Jouissons dans la volupté!	18 Come on, we'l make love as much as we like, till morning. Let us enjoy the delights of love!
19 Car il n'y a point de mari à la maison: il est parti pour un lointain voyage,	19 For my husband is not at home, he has gone on a very long journey,
20 il a emporté le sac aux écus, à la pleine lune il reviendra chez lui.	20 taking his moneybags with him; he wil not be back til the moon is ful .'
21 A force de persuasion elle le séduit, par le charme doucereux de ses lèvres elle l'entraîne.	21 With her persistent coaxing she overcomes him, lures him on with her wheedling patter.
22 Aussitôt il la suit, tel un boeuf qui va à l'abattoir, tel un fou marchant au supplice des entraves,	22 Forthwith he fol ows her, like an ox on its way to the slaughterhouse, like a madman on his way to thestocks,
23 jusqu'à ce qu'un trait lui perce le foie, tel l'oiseau qui se précipite dans le filet sans savoir qu'il yva de sa vie.	23 until an arrow pierces him to the liver, like the bird that dashes into the net without realising that its lifeis at stake.
24 A présent, fils, écoutez-moi, prêtez attention aux paroles de ma bouche:	24 And now, son, listen to me, pay attention to the words I have to say:
25 que ton coeur ne dévie pas vers ses chemins, ne t'égare pas dans ses sentiers,	25 do not let your heart stray into her ways, or wander into her paths;
26 car nombreux sont ceux qu'elle a frappés à mort et les plus robustes furent tous ses victimes.	26 she has done so many to death, and the strongest have al been her victims.
27 Sa demeure est le chemin du shéol, la pente vers le parvis des morts.	27 Her house is the way to Sheol, the descent to the courts of death.
