Livre de Job 40

JERUSALEM	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Alors Yahvé s'adressant à Job lui dit:	1 Stil speaking to Job, Yahweh said:
2 L'adversaire de Shaddaï cédera-t-il? Le censeur de Dieu va-t-il répondre?	2 Is Yahweh's opponent going to give way? Has God's critic thought up an answer?
3 Et Job répondit à Yahvé:	3 Job replied to Yahweh:
4 J'ai parlé à la légère: que te répliquerai-je? Je mettrai plutôt ma main sur ma bouche.	4 My words have been frivolous: what can I reply? I had better lay my hand over my mouth.
5 J'ai parlé une fois, je ne répéterai pas; deux fois, je n'ajouterai rien.	5 I have spoken once, I shal not speak again; I have spoken twice, I have nothing more to say.
6 Yahvé répondit à Job du sein de la tempête et dit:	6 Yahweh gave Job his answer from the heart of the tempest. He said:
7 Ceins tes reins comme un brave: je vais t'interroger et tu m'instruiras.	7 Brace yourself like a fighter, I am going to ask the questions, and you are to inform me!
8 Veux-tu vraiment casser mon jugement, me condamner pour assurer ton droit?	8 Do you real y want to reverse my judgement, put me in the wrong and yourself in the right?
9 Ton bras a-t-il une vigueur divine, ta voix peut-elle tonner pareillement?	9 Has your arm the strength of God's, can your voice thunder as loud?
10 Allons, pare-toi de majesté et de grandeur, revêts-toi de splendeur et de gloire.	10 Come on, display your majesty and grandeur, robe yourself in splendour and glory.
11 Fais éclater les fureurs de ta colère, d'un regard, courbe l'arrogant.	11 Let the fury of your anger burst forth, humble the haughty at a glance!
12 D'un regard, ravale l'homme superbe, écrase sur place les méchants.	12 At a glance, bring down al the proud, strike down the wicked where they stand.
13 Enfouis-les ensemble dans le sol, emprisonne-les chacun dans le cachot.	13 Bury the lot of them in the ground, shut them, every one, in the Dungeon.
14 Et moi-même je te rendrai hommage, car tu peux assurer ton salut par ta droite.	14 And I shal be the first to pay you homage, since your own right hand is strong enough to save you.
15 Mais regarde donc Béhémoth, ma créature, tout comme toi! Il se nourrit d'herbe, comme le boeuf.	15 But look at Behemoth, my creature, just as you are! He feeds on greenstuff like the ox,
16 Vois, sa force réside dans ses reins, sa vigueur dans les muscles de son ventre.	16 but what strength he has in his loins, what power in his stomach muscles!
17 Il raidit sa queue comme un cèdre, les nerfs de ses cuisses s'entrelacent.	17 His tail is as stiff as a cedar, the sinews of his thighs are tightly knit.
18 Ses os sont des tubes d'airain, sa carcasse, comme du fer forgé.	18 His bones are bronze tubes, his frame like forged iron.
19 C'est lui la première des oeuvres de Dieu. Son Auteur le menaça de l'épée,	19 He is the first of the works of God. His Maker threatened him with the sword,
20 lui interdit la région des montagnes et toutes les bêtes sauvages qui s'y ébattent.	20 forbidding him the mountain regions and al the wild animals that play there.
21 Sous les lotus, il est couché, il se cache dans les roseaux des marécages.	21 Under the lotus he lies, he hides among the reeds in the swamps.
22 Le couvert des lotus lui sert d'ombrage et les saules du torrent le protègent.	22 The leaves of the lotus give him shade, the willows by the stream shelter him.
23 Si le fleuve déborde il ne s'émeut pas; un Jourdain lui jaillirait jusqu'à la gueule sans qu'il bronche.	23 If the river overflows, he does not worry: Jordan might come up to his mouth, but he would not care.
24 Qui donc le saisira par les yeux, lui percera le nez avec des pieux?	24 Who is going to catch him by the eyes or put poles through his nose?
25 Et Léviathan, le pêches-tu à l'hameçon, avec une corde comprimes-tu sa langue?	25 Leviathan, too! Can you catch him with a fish-hook or hold his tongue down with a rope?
26 Fais-tu passer un jonc dans ses naseaux, avec un croc perces-tu sa mâchoire?	26 Can you put a cane through his nostrils or pierce his jaw with a hook?
27 Est-ce lui qui te suppliera longuement, te parlera d'un ton timide?	27 Will he plead lengthily with you, addressing you in diffident tones?
28 S'engagera-t-il par contrat envers toi, pour devenir ton serviteur à vie?	28 Will he strike a bargain with you to become your slave for life?
29 T'amusera-t-il comme un passereau, l'attacheras-tu pour la joie de tes filles?	29 Will you make a pet of him, like a bird, keep him on a lead to amuse your little girls?
30 Sera-t-il mis en vente par des associés, puis débité entre marchands?	30 Is he to be sold by the fishing guild and then retailed by merchants?
31 Cribleras-tu sa peau de dards, le harponneras-tu à la tête comme un poisson?	31 Riddle his hide with darts? Or his head with fishing spears?
32 Pose seulement la main sur lui: au souvenir de la lutte, tu ne recommenceras plus!	32 You have only to lay a finger on him never to forget the struggle or risk it again!
