Proverbios 13

BIBLIA	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 El hijo sabio atiende a la instrucción de su padre, el arrogante no escucha la reprensión.	1 A wise son loves correction, but the senseless one heeds no rebuke.
2 Con el fruto de su boca, come el hombre lo que es bueno, pero el alma de los pérfidos se nutre de violencia.	2 From the fruit of his words a man eats good things, but the treacherous one craves violence.
3 Quien vigila su boca, guarda su vida; quien abre sus labios, busca su ruina.	3 He who guards his mouth protects his life; to open wide one's lips brings downfall.
4 Tiene hambre el perezoso, mas no se cumple su deseo; el deseo de los diligentes queda satisfecho.	4 The soul of the sluggard craves in vain, but the diligent soul is amply satisfied.
5 El justo odia la palabra mentirosa, pero el malo infama y deshonra.	5 Anything deceitful the just man hates, but the wicked brings shame and disgrace.
6 La justicia guarda al íntegro en su camino, mas la maldad arruina al pecador.	6 Virtue guards one who walks honestly, but the downfall of the wicked is sin.
7 Hay quien se hace el rico y nada tiene, hay quien se hace el pobre y tiene gran fortuna.	7 One man pretends to be rich, yet has nothing; another pretends to be poor, yet has great wealth.
8 El precio de la vida de un hombre es su riqueza; pero el pobre no hace caso a la amenaza.	8 A man's riches serve as ransom for his life, but the poor man heeds no rebuke.
9 La luz de los justos alegremente luce, la lámpara de los malos se apaga.	9 The light of the just shines gaily, but the lamp of the wicked goes out.
10 La insolencia sólo disputas proporciona; con los que admiten consejos está la sabiduría.	10 The stupid man sows discord by his insolence, but with those who take counsel is wisdom.
11 Fortuna rápida, vendrá a menos, quien junta poco a poco, irá en aumento.	11 Wealth quickly gotten dwindles away, but amassed little by little, it grows.
12 Espera prolongada enferma el corazón; árbol de vida es el deseo cumplido.	12 Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a wish fulfilled is a tree of life.
13 Quien desprecia la palabra se perderá, quien respeta el mandato se salvará.	13 He who despises the word must pay for it, but he who reveres the commandment will be rewarded.
14 La lección del sabio es fuente de vida, para sortear las trampas de la muerte.	14 The teaching of the wise is a fountain of life, that a man may avoid the snares of death.
15 Una gran prudencia alcanza favor, el camino de los pérfidos no tiene fin,	15 Good sense brings favor, but the way of the faithless is their ruin.
16 Todo hombre cauto obra con conocimiento, el tonto ostenta su necedad.	16 The shrewd man does everything with prudence, but the fool peddles folly.
17 Mensajero perverso cae en desgracia, mensajero leal trae la curación.	17 A wicked messenger brings on disaster, but a trustworthy envoy is a healing remedy.
18 Miseria e ignominia al que rechaza la instrucción, gloria al que acepta la reprensión.	18 Poverty and shame befall the man who disregards correction, but he who heeds reproof is honored.
19 Deseo cumplido, dulzura para el alma, los necios detestan abandonar el mal.	19 Lust indulged starves the soul, but fools hate to turn from evil.
20 El que anda con los sabios será sabio; quien frecuenta los necios se hará malo.	20 Walk with wise men and you will become wise, but the companion of fools will fare badly.
21 A los pecadores los persigue la desgracia, los justos son colmados de dicha.	21 Misfortune pursues sinners, but the just shall be recompensed with good.
22 El hombre de bien deja herencia a los hijos de sus hijos, al justo se reserva la riqueza del pecador.	22 The good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children, but the wealth of the sinner is stored up for the just.
23 Las roturas de los pobres dan mucho de comer; pero hay perdición cuando falta justicia.	23 A lawsuit devours the tillage of the poor, but some men perish for lack of a law court.
24 Quien escatima la vara, odia a su hijo, quien le tiene amor, le castiga.	24 He who spares his rod hates his son, but he who loves him takes care to chastise him.
25 Come el justo y queda satisfecho, pero el vientre de los malos pasa necesidad.	25 When the just man eats, his hunger is appeased; but the belly of the wicked suffers want.
