NOVA VULGATANEW AMERICAN BIBLE
Et coepit illis in parabolis loqui: “ Vineam pastinavit ho mo etcircumdedit saepem et fodit lacum et aedificavit turrim et locavit eam agricoliset peregre profectus est.1 He began to speak to them in parables. "A man planted a vineyard, put a hedge around it, dug a wine press, and built a tower. Then he leased it to tenant farmers and left on a journey.
Et misit ad agricolas in tempore servum, ut abagricolis acciperet de fructu vineae;2 At the proper time he sent a servant to the tenants to obtain from them some of the produce of the vineyard.
qui apprehensum eum caeciderunt etdimiserunt vacuum.3 But they seized him, beat him, and sent him away empty-handed.
Et iterum misit ad illos alium servum; et illum in capitevulneraverunt et contumeliis affecerunt.4 Again he sent them another servant. And that one they beat over the head and treated shamefully.
Et alium misit, et illum occiderunt,et plures alios, quosdam caedentes, alios vero occidentes.5 He sent yet another whom they killed. So, too, many others; some they beat, others they killed.
Adhuc unum habebat, filium dilectum. Misit illum ad eos novissimum dicens: “Reverebuntur filiummeum”.6 He had one other to send, a beloved son. He sent him to them last of all, thinking, 'They will respect my son.'
Venite, occidamus eum, et nostra erit hereditas”.7 But those tenants said to one another, 'This is the heir. Come, let us kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.'
Et apprehendentes eum occideruntet eiecerunt extra vineam.8 So they seized him and killed him, and threw him out of the vineyard.
Quid ergo faciet dominus vineae? Veniet et perdetcolonos et dabit vineam aliis.9 What (then) will the owner of the vineyard do? He will come, put the tenants to death, and give the vineyard to others.
Nec Scripturam hanc legistis: “Lapidem quemreprobaverunt aedificantes,
hic factus est in caput anguli;
Have you not read this scripture passage: 'The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone;
a Domino factum est istud
et est mirabile in oculis nostris”? ”.
by the Lord has this been done, and it is wonderful in our eyes'?"
They were seeking to arrest him, but they feared the crowd, for they realized that he had addressed the parable to them. So they left him and went away.
Et mittunt ad eum quosdam ex pharisaeis et herodianis, ut eum caperent inverbo.13 They sent some Pharisees and Herodians to him to ensnare him in his speech.
Licet dare tributum Caesari an non? Dabimus an non dabimus? ”.14 They came and said to him, "Teacher, we know that you are a truthful man and that you are not concerned with anyone's opinion. You do not regard a person's status but teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. Is it lawful to pay the census tax to Caesar or not? Should we pay or should we not pay?"
Quisciens versutiam eorum ait illis: “ Quid me tentatis? Afferte mihi denarium,ut videam ”.15 Knowing their hypocrisy he said to them, "Why are you testing me? Bring me a denarius to look at."
At illi attulerunt. ”. Illi autem dixerunt ei: “ Caesaris ”.16 They brought one to him and he said to them, "Whose image and inscription is this?" They replied to him, "Caesar's."
Etmirabantur super eo.
So Jesus said to them, "Repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God.' They were utterly amazed at him.
Some Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to him and put this question to him,
“ Magister, Moyses nobis scripsit, ut si cuiusfrater mortuus fuerit et reliquerit uxorem et filium non reliquerit, accipiatfrater eius uxorem et resuscitet semen fratri suo.19 saying, "Teacher, Moses wrote for us, 'If someone's brother dies, leaving a wife but no child, his brother must take the wife and raise up descendants for his brother.'
Septem fratres erant: etprimus accepit uxorem et moriens non reliquit semen;20 Now there were seven brothers. The first married a woman and died, leaving no descendants.
et secundus accepit eamet mortuus est, non relicto semine; et tertius similiter;21 So the second married her and died, leaving no descendants, and the third likewise.
et septem nonreliquerunt semen. Novissima omnium defuncta est et mulier.22 And the seven left no descendants. Last of all the woman also died.
In resurrectione, cum resurrexerint, cuius de his erit uxor? Septem enim habuerunt eam uxorem ”.23 At the resurrection (when they arise) whose wife will she be? For all seven had been married to her."
Ait illis Iesus: “ Non ideo erratis, quia non scitis Scripturas nequevirtutem Dei?24 Jesus said to them, "Are you not misled because you do not know the scriptures or the power of God?
When they rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but they are like the angels in heaven.
As for the dead being raised, have you not read in the Book of Moses, in the passage about the bush, how God told him, 'I am the God of Abraham, (the) God of Isaac, and (the) God of Jacob'?
Non est Deus mortuorum sedvivorum! Multum erratis ”.
He is not God of the dead but of the living. You are greatly misled."
Et accessit unus de scribis, qui audierat illos conquirentes, videns quoniambene illis responderit, interrogavit eum: “ Quod est primum omnium mandatum?”.28 One of the scribes, when he came forward and heard them disputing and saw how well he had answered them, asked him, "Which is the first of all the commandments?"
Iesus respondit: “ Primum est: “Audi, Israel: Dominus Deus nosterDominus unus est,29 Jesus replied, "The first is this: 'Hear, O Israel! The Lord our God is Lord alone!
et diliges Dominum Deum tuum ex toto corde tuo et ex totaanima tua et ex tota mente tua et ex tota virtute tua”.30 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.'
Secundum est illud:“Diliges proximum tuum tamquam teipsum”. Maius horum aliud mandatum non est”.31 The second is this: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no other commandment greater than these."
Et ait illi scriba: “ Bene, Magister, in veritate dixisti: “Unusest, et non est alius praeter eum;32 The scribe said to him, "Well said, teacher. You are right in saying, 'He is One and there is no other than he.'
et diligere eum ex toto corde et ex totointellectu et ex tota fortitudine” et: “Diligere proximum tamquam seipsum”maius est omnibus holocautomatibus et sacrificiis ”.33 And 'to love him with all your heart, with all your understanding, with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself' is worth more than all burnt offerings and sacrifices."
Et Iesus videns quodsapienter respondisset, dixit illi: “ Non es longe a regno Dei ”. Et nemoiam audebat eum interrogare.
And when Jesus saw that (he) answered with understanding, he said to him, "You are not far from the kingdom of God." And no one dared to ask him any more questions.
Et respondens Iesus dicebat docens in templo: “ Quomodo dicunt scribaeChristum filium esse David?35 As Jesus was teaching in the temple area he said, "How do the scribes claim that the Messiah is the son of David?
Ipse David dixit in Spiritu Sancto:
“Dixit Dominus Domino meo: Sede a dextris meis,
donec ponam inimicos tuos sub pedibus tuis”.
David himself, inspired by the holy Spirit, said: 'The Lord said to my lord, "Sit at my right hand until I place your enemies under your feet."'
”. Et multa turbaeum libenter audiebat.
David himself calls him 'lord'; so how is he his son?" (The) great crowd heard this with delight.
Et dicebat in doctrina sua: “ Cavete a scribis, qui volunt in stolisambulare et salutari in foro38 In the course of his teaching he said, "Beware of the scribes, who like to go around in long robes and accept greetings in the marketplaces,
et in primis cathedris sedere in synagogis etprimos discubitus in cenis;39 seats of honor in synagogues, and places of honor at banquets.
qui devorant domos viduarum et ostentant prolixasorationes. Hi accipient amplius iudicium ”.
They devour the houses of widows and, as a pretext, recite lengthy prayers. They will receive a very severe condemnation."
Et sedens contra gazophylacium aspiciebat quomodo turba iactaret aes ingazophylacium; et multi divites iactabant multa.41 He sat down opposite the treasury and observed how the crowd put money into the treasury. Many rich people put in large sums.
A poor widow also came and put in two small coins worth a few cents.
Et convocans discipulos suos aitillis: “ Amen dico vobis: Vidua haec pauper plus omnibus misit, qui miseruntin gazophylacium:43 Calling his disciples to himself, he said to them, "Amen, I say to you, this poor widow put in more than all the other contributors to the treasury.
For they have all contributed from their surplus wealth, but she, from her poverty, has contributed all she had, her whole livelihood."
