1 Adunque Arphaxad re de' Medi avea soggettate al suo impero molte nazioni, ed egli edificò una città fortissima, cui diede il nome di Ecbatana.	1 And so Arphaxad, king of the Medes, subjugated many nations under his authority, and he built a very powerful city, which he called Ecbatana.
2 E fece le sue mura di pietre tagliate a squadra, le quali mura aveano settanta cubiti di larghezza, e trenta di altezza; e alle sue torri diede cento cubiti di altezza.	2 From stones, cut and squared, he made its walls: seventy cubits in height and thirty cubits in breadth. And, in truth, he set its towers one hundred cubits in height.
3 E queste eran quadrate, e ognuno de lati teneva lo spazio di venti piedi; e fece le sue porte eguali in altezza alle torri:	3 In fact, at its corners, each side was extended for the space of twenty feet. And he set its gates according to the height of the towers.
4 E si gloriava come possente pel valore de suoi eserciti, e pe' famosi suoi cocchi.	4 And he glorified it, in its power, with the force of his army and with the glory of his chariots.
5 Adunque Nabucodonosor re degli Assiri, il quale regnava nella gran città di Ninive, l'ammo duodecimo del suo regno venne a battaglia con Arphaxad, e lo vinse.	5 Thereafter, in the twelfth year of his reign, Nebuchadnezzar, king of the Assyrians, who reigned in Nineveh the great city, fought against Arphaxad and prevailed over him:
6 Nella gran pianura detta Ragau presso all'Eufrate, e al Tigri, e a Jadason nella campagna di Erioch re degli Elici.	6 in the great plain, which is called Ragae, near the Euphrates, and the Tigris, and the Hydaspes, at the encampment of Arioch, king of the Elymaeans.
7 Allora divenne famoso il regno di Nabucodonosor, e il suo cuoresi gonfiò, ed ei mandò ambasciatori a tutti gli abitatori della Cilicia, di Damasco, e del Libano,	7 Then the kingdom of Nebuchadnezzar was exalted, and his heart was elevated. And he sent to all who dwelt in Cilicia, and Damascus, and Lebanon,
8 E a popoli, che dimorano sul Carmelo, e in Cedar, e agli abitanti della Galilea, e della vasta campagna di Esdrelon,	8 and to the nations that are in Carmel and Kedar, and to the inhabitants of Galilee, in the great plain of Esdrelon,
9 E a tutti quelli della Samaria, e di là dal Giordano fino a Gerusalemme, e in tutta la terra di Jesse sino ai confini di Etiopia.	9 and to all who were in Samaria and across the river Jordan, even to Jerusalem and to all the land of Jesse, until one passes through to the borders of Ethiopia.
10 A tutti questi spedì ambasciatori Nabucodonosor re degli Assiri:	10 To all these, Nebuchadnezzar, king of the Assyrians, sent messengers:
11 E questi, tutti d'accordo non si piegarono a suoi voleri, rimandarono coloro colle mani vuote, e gli cacciarono con ignominia.	11 whom they all with one mind contradicted, and they sent them back empty, and they rejected them without honor.
12 Allora Nabuchodonosor irato contro tutti que paesi, giurò pel suo trono, e pel suo regno, che avrebbe presa vendetta di tutte quelle genti.	12 Then king Nebuchadnezzar, being indignant against all that land, swore by his throne and his kingdom that he would defend himself against all those regions.
