Prima lettera di Pietro 2

BIBBIA TINTORI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Deposta quindi ogni malizia e ogni frode, e le finzioni e le invidie, ed ogni sorta di maldicenza	1 Rid yourselves, then, of al spite, deceit, hypocrisy, envy and carping criticism.
2 come bambini di fresco nati bramate il latte spirituale sincero, affinchè per esso cresciate in salute,	2 Like new-born babies al your longing should be for milk -- the unadulterated spiritual milk -- which willhelp you to grow up to salvation,
3 se avete gustato davvero com'è dolce il Signore.	3 at any rate if you have tasted that the Lord is good .
4 Al quale, pietra viva, scartata dagli uomini, ma eletta e onorata da Dio, accostandovi,	4 He is the living stone, rejected by human beings but chosen by God and precious to him; set yourselvesclose to him
5 siete anche voi come pietre vive edificate sopra di lui, (per essere) casa spirituale, sacerdozio santo, per offrire vittime spirituali, gradite a Dio per Gesù Cristo.	5 so that you, too, may be living stones making a spiritual house as a holy priesthood to offer the spiritualsacrifices made acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
6 Perciò è detto nella Scrittura: Ecco, io pongo in Sion una pietra principale, angolare, eletta, preziosa, e chi crederà in lei non resterà confuso.	6 As scripture says: Now I am laying a stone in Zion, a chosen, precious cornerstone and no one whorelies on this wil be brought to disgrace.
7 Per voi che credete è di onore, ma per quelli che non credono « la pietra scartata dai costruttori è divenuta testata dell'angolo »,	7 To you believers it brings honour. But for unbelievers, it is rather a stone which the builders rejectedthat became a cornerstone,
8 è diventata pietra d'inciampo, pietra di scandalo; perchè urtano nella parola e non credono, mentre a questo erari destinati.	8 a stumbling stone, a rock to trip people up. They stumble over it because they do not believe in theWord; it was the fate in store for them.
9 Ma voi siete la stirpe eletta, il regale sacerdozio, la nazione santa, il popolo di acquisto, affinchè esaltiate le virtù di Colui che dalle tenebre vi chiamò nell'ammirabile sua luce.	9 But you are a chosen race, a kingdom of priests, a holy nation, a people to be a personal possession tosing the praises of God who cal ed you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.
10 Voi una volta non popolo, ora siete popolo di Dio; voi che non avevate ottenuto misericordia, ora invece avete ottenuto misericordia.	10 Once you were a non-people and now you are the People of God; once you were outside his pity; nowyou have received pity.
11 Carissimi, vi scongiuro a guardarvi, come forestieri e pellegrini, dai desideri carnali che fan guerra all'anima,	11 I urge you, my dear friends, as strangers and nomads, to keep yourselves free from the disorderednatural inclinations that attack the soul.
12 e a vivere bene tra le Genti, affinchè, invece di calunniarvi, come se foste dei malfattori, giudicandovi dalle buone opere, glorifichino Dio nel giorno in cui li visiterà.	12 Always behave honourably among gentiles so that they can see for themselves what moral lives youlead, and when the day of reckoning comes, give thanks to God for the things which now make them denounceyou as criminals.
13 State adunque, per riguardo a Dio, soggetti ad ogni autorità umana: al re come a sovrano, ai governatori	13 For the sake of the Lord, accept the authority of every human institution: the emperor, as the supremeauthority,
14 come a suoi delegati per giustiziare i malfattori ed onorare i buoni;	14 and the governors as commissioned by him to punish criminals and praise those who do good.
15 perchè questa è la volontà di Dio, che facendo il bene turiate la bocca all'ignoranza degli uomini stolti.	15 It is God's will that by your good deeds you should silence the ignorant talk of fools.
16 Vivete pur da liberi, non facendo però della libertà un manto per coprire la malizia, ma come servi di Dio.	16 You are slaves of no one except God, so behave like free people, and never use your freedom as acover for wickedness.
17 Rispettate tutti; amate i fratelli; temete Dio, onorate il re.	17 Have respect for everyone and love for your fel ow-believers; fear God and honour the emperor.
18 Servi, siate con ogni rispetto soggetti ai vostri padroni, non soltanto ai buoni e dolci, ma anche agli intrattabili.	18 Slaves, you should obey your masters respectful y, not only those who are kind and reasonable butalso those who are difficult to please.
19 Perchè è una grazia il sopportare, per riguardo a Dio, molestie e soffrire ingiustamente.	19 You see, there is merit if, in awareness of God, you put up with the pains of undeserved punishment;
20 Infatti qual gloria c'è a patire puniti del male fatto? Se invece dopo aver fatto del bene voi soffrite con pazienza, questa è una grazia dinanzi a Dio.	20 but what glory is there in putting up with a beating after you have done something wrong? The merit inthe sight of God is in putting up with it patiently when you are punished for doing your duty.
21 E a questo appunto siete stati chiamati, perchè anche Cristo ha sofferto per noi, lasciandovi l'esempio, affinchè ne seguiate le orme.	21 This, in fact, is what you were called to do, because Christ suffered for you and left an example for youto fol ow in his steps.
22 Egli, che non commise peccato, nè ebbe mai frode sulla bocca,	22 He had done nothing wrong, and had spoken no deceit.
23 venendo maledetto non malediceva, strapazzato non minacciava, si rimetteva nelle mani di chi ingiusta mente lo giudicava:	23 He was insulted and did not retaliate with insults; when he was suffering he made no threats but puthis trust in the upright judge.
24 Egli stesso portò i nostri peccati nel suo corpo sopra la croce, affinchè, morti al peccato, viviamo alla giustizia, e voi siete stati sanati dalle sue piaghe.	24 He was bearing our sins in his own body on the cross, so that we might die to our sins and live foruprightness; through his bruises you have been healed.
25 Eravate infatti come pecore erranti, ma ora siete stati fatti ritornare al pastore e vescovo delle anime vostre.	25 You had gone astray like sheep but now you have returned to the shepherd and guardian of yoursouls.
