1 Parola del Signore, indirizzata a Gioele, figlio di Fatuel.	1 The word of the Lord that came to Joel the son of Phatuel.
2 Ascoltate questo, o vecchi, prestate attenzione, voi tutti, o abitatori della terra! E' avvenuta mai tal cosa ai vostri giorni, o ai tempi dei vostri padri?	2 Hear this, ye old men, and give ear, all ye inhabitants of the land: did this ever happen in your days, or in the days of your fathers?
3 Fatene il racconto ai vostri figli, e i vostri figli ai loro figlioli, e i loro figli ad un'altra generazione.	3 Tell ye of this to your children, and let your children tell their children, and their children to another generation.
4 L'Avanzo dell'eruca l'ha mangiato la cavalletta, l'avanzo della cavalletta l'ha mangiato il bruco, e l'avanzo del bruco l'ha mangiato la ruggine.	4 That which the palmerworm hath left, the locust hath eaten: and that which the locust hath left, the bruchus hath eaten: and that which the bruchus hath left, the mildew hath destroyed.
5 Svegliatevi, ubriachi, e piangete, alzate le strida, voi tutti che bevete il vino nella dolcezza, perchè è sparito dalla vostra bocca.	5 Awake, ye that are drunk, and weep, and mourn all ye that take delight in drinking sweet wine: for it is cut off from your mouth.
6 Infatti è venuta contro la mia terra una nazione forte e innumerabile: i suoi denti son come i denti dei leoni, e i suoi molari come quelli del leoncello.	6 For a nation is come up upon my land, strong and without number: his teeth are like the teeth of a lion: and his cheek teeth as of a lion's whelp.
7 Essa ha ridotta la mia vigna a un deserto, ha scorticati i miei fichi, li ha spogliati, messi a nudo e abbattuti, e i loro rami son divenuti bianchi.	7 He hath laid my vineyard waste, and hath pilled off the bark of my fig tree: he hath stripped it bare, and cast it away; the branches thereof are made white.
8 Fai lutto come una vergine vestita di sacco per (piangere) lo sposo della sua giovinezza.	8 Lament like a virgin girded with sackcloth for the husband of her youth.
9 Sono spariti i sacrifizi e le libazioni dalla casa del Signore, sono in lutto i sacerdoti, ministri del Signore.	9 Sacrifice and libation is cut off from the house of the Lord: the priests, the Lord's ministers, have mourned:
10 Il paese è devastato, la terra è in lutto, perchè è distrutto il grano, il vino è nella confusione, e l'olio langue.	10 The country is destroyed, the ground hath mourned: for the corn is wasted, the wine is confounded, the oil hath languished.
11 Gli agricoltori son confusi, alzan le strida i vignaioli, a causa del frumento e dell'orzo, perchè è sparita la raccolta dei campi.	11 The husbandmen are ashamed, the vinedressers have howled for the wheat, and for the barley, because the harvest of the field is perished.
12 La vigna è nella confusione, i fichi languono, il melogranato, la palma, il melo, e tutte le piante dei campi sono secche. La gioia, confusa (è andata lungi) dai figli degli uomini.	12 The vineyard is confounded, and the fig tree hath languished: the pomegranate tree, and the palm tree, and the apple tree, and all the trees of the field are withered: because joy is withdrawn from the children of men.
13 Cingetevi, o sacerdoti, e piangote, alzate le grida, o ministri dell'altare, entrate, passate la notte (vestiti) di sacco, o ministri del mio Dio, perchè i sacrifizi e le libazioni sono spariti dalla casa del mio Dio.	13 Gird yourselves, and lament, O ye priests, howl, ye ministers of the altars: go in, lie in sackcloth, ye ministers of my God: because sacrifice and libation is cut off from the house of your God.
14 Pubblicate il santo digiuno, chiamate il popolo, radunate gli anziani, e tutti gli abitanti del paese nella casa del vostro Dio, e gridate al Signore:	14 Sanctify ye a fast, call an assembly; gather together the ancients, all the inhabitants of the land into the house of your God: and cry ye to the Lord:
15 «Ahi, ahi, ahi, che giorno!» perchè il giorno del Signore è vicino, e verrà come devastazione dal Potente.	15 Ah, ah, ah, for the day: because the day of the Lord is at hand, and it shall come like destruction from the mighty.
16 Non son forse spariti sotto gli occhi vostri gli alimenti, la gioia, l'allegrezza dalla casa del nostro Dio?	16 Is not your food cut off before your eyes, joy and gladness from the house of our God?
17 I giumenti sono marciti nel loro letame, i granai son demoliti, i magazzini son distrutti, perchè il frumento è in confusione.	17 The beasts have rotted in their dung, the barns are destroyed, the storehouses are broken down: because the corn is confounded.
18 Perchè gemono le bestie, e muggiscono i greggi dell'armento? Perchè non trovano pastura; ed anche i greggi delle pecore spariscono.	18 Why did the beast groan, why did the herds of cattle low? because there is no pasture for them: yea, and the flocks of sheep are perished.
19 A te alzerò, le grida, o Signore, perchè il fuoco ha divorato ciò che c'era di bello nel deserto, e la fiamma ha bruciato tutte le piante della contrada.	19 To thee, 0 Lord, will I cry: because fire hath devoured the beautiful places of the wilderness, and the flame hath burnt all the trees of the country.
20 Le stesse bestie della campagna, come terra assetata di pioggia, guardano a te, perchè le sorgenti delle acque son seccate, e il fuoco ha divorato ciò' che ha di bello il deserto.	20 Yea and the beasts of the field have looked up to thee, as a garden bed that thirsteth after rain, for the springs of waters are dried up, and fire hath devoured the beautiful places of the wilderness.
