Seconda lettera a Timoteo 2

BIBBIA RICCIOTTI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 - Tu dunque, figlio mio, fortificati nella grazia in Cristo Gesù,	1 As for you, my dear son, take strength from the grace which is in Christ Jesus.
2 e le cose che hai sentito da me a mezzo di molti testimoni, tu trasmettile a persone fedeli, che saranno in grado di ammaestrare altri.	2 Pass on to reliable people what you have heard from me through many witnesses so that they in turn wilbe able to teach others.
3 Anche tu sopporta i dolori come buon soldato di Cristo Gesù.	3 Bear with your share of difficulties, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus.
4 Nessuno che militi s'implica in affari della vita, allo scopo di piacere a chi lo ha arrolato.	4 No one on active service involves himself in the affairs of civilian life, because he must win the approvalof the man who enlisted him;
5 Anche chi prende parte alle gare atletiche, non riceve la corona se non ha combattuto secondo le regole.	5 or again someone who enters an athletic contest wins only by competing in the sports -- a prize can bewon only by competing according to the rules;
6 Il contadino che lavora bisogna che abbia prima la sua parte di frutti.	6 and again, it is the farmer who works hard that has the first claim on any crop that is harvested.
7 Rifletti a quel che ti dico, giacchè il Signore ti darà intelligenza in ogni cosa.	7 Think over what I have said, and the Lord wil give you ful understanding.
8 Ricordati che Gesù Cristo risuscitò dai morti, Egli del seme di David, secondo il mio Vangelo.	8 Remember the gospel that I carry, 'Jesus Christ risen from the dead, sprung from the race of David';
9 Per il quale soffro de' guai, fino alle catene, come un malfattore; ma la parola di Dio non si lega con catene.	9 it is on account of this that I have to put up with suffering, even to being chained like a criminal. ButGod's message cannot be chained up.
10 Per questo sopporto tutto, per amor degli eletti, affinchè anche loro conseguano la salvezza in Cristo Gesù, coll'eterna gloria.	10 So I persevere for the sake of those who are chosen, so that they, too, may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.
11 È parola di fede, che se siamo insieme morti, con lui insieme anche vivremo;	11 Here is a saying that you can rely on: If we have died with him, then we shal live with him.
12 se siamo costanti con lui anche regneremo: se lo rinnegheremo anch'egli rinnegherà noi;	12 If we persevere, then we shal reign with him. If we disown him, then he wil disown us.
13 se siamo fedeli noi, egli rimane fedele perchè non può mica rinnegare se stesso.	13 If we are faithless, he is faithful still, for he cannot disown his own self.
14 Queste cose richiama alla memoria, scongiurando davanti a Dio, che non si contrasti a parole; cosa che non giova a nulla se non alla rovina di quelli che ascoltano.	14 Remind them of this; and tell them in the name of God that there must be no wrangling about words: althat this ever achieves is the destruction of those who are listening.
15 Tu studiati di comparire degno di approvazione davanti a Dio, come operaio che non ha da arrossire mai, dispensando convenientemente la parola di verità.	15 Make every effort to present yourself before God as a proven worker who has no need to be ashamed,but who keeps the message of truth on a straight path.
16 Evita le profane e vuote chiacchiere; poichè avanzeranno sempre più nell'empietà,	16 Have nothing to do with godless philosophical discussions -- they only lead further and further awayfrom true religion.
17 e la loro parola va serpeggiando come cancrena. Son di questo numero Imeneo e Fileto,	17 Talk of this kind spreads corruption like gangrene, as in the case of Hymenaeus and Philetus,
18 i quali han perso di mira la verità, dicendo che la risurrezione è già avvenuta, e sovvertono la fede di alcuni.	18 the men who have gone astray from the truth, claiming that the resurrection has already taken place.They are upsetting some people's faith.
19 Pure saldo rimane il fondamento di Dio, e porta questo suggello: «Ha ben conosciuto il Signore quelli che son suoi» e: «Si ritragga dall'iniquità» chiunque «pronunzia il nome del Signore».	19 However, God's solid foundation-stone stands firm, and this is the seal on it: 'The Lord knows thosewho are his own' and 'Al who cal on the name of the Lord must avoid evil.'
20 In una gran casa non vi sono soltanto vasi d'oro e d'argento, ma anche di legno e d'argilla, gli uni a uso d'onore, gli altri a uso vile;	20 Not al the dishes in a large house are made of gold and silver; some are made of wood orearthenware: the former are held in honour, the latter held cheap.
21 se adunque uno si sarà serbato puro da tali cose, sarà come un vaso di rispetto, santificato, utile al padrone adatto a qualunque opera buona.	21 If someone holds himself aloof from these faults I speak of, he wil be a vessel held in honour,dedicated and fit for the Master, ready for any good work.
22 Fuggi le passioni giovanili, segui la giustizia, la fede, la carità, la pace, con quelli che invocano il Signore con puro cuore.	22 Turn away from the passions of youth, concentrate on uprightness, faith, love and peace, in union withal those who cal on the Lord with a pure heart.
23 E le stolte e incivili dispute evitale, sapendo che generano contese;	23 Avoid these foolish and undisciplined speculations, understanding that they only give rise to quarrels;
24 un servo del Signore non deve litigare ma esser affabile con tutti, bravo a insegnare, paziente,	24 and a servant of the Lord must not engage in quarrels, but must be kind to everyone, a good teacher,and patient.
25 tale che con mitezza ammaestri quelli che gli si schieran contro, se mai conceda loro Iddio il pentimento per riconoscere la verità,	25 He must be gentle when he corrects people who oppose him, in the hope that God may give them achange of mind so that they recognise the truth
26 e ritornino in sè liberandosi dai lacci del diavolo, che li aveva fatti prigionieri perchè eseguissero la volontà sua.	26 and come to their senses, escaping the trap of the devil who made them his captives and subjectedthem to his will.
