Lettera ai Galati 2

BIBBIA RICCIOTTI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 - Appresso, dopo quattordici anni, salii di nuovo a Gerusalemme con Barnaba, preso con me anche Tito.	1 It was not until fourteen years had gone by that I travel ed up to Jerusalem again, with Barnabas, and Itook Titus with me too.
2 Vi andai in seguito a rivelazione, ed esposi loro il Vangelo quale lo predico ai Gentili, ciò privatamente a quelli che erano più reputati, nel pensiero che io corressi forse o fossi corso invano.	2 My journey was inspired by a revelation and there, in a private session with the recognised leaders, Iexpounded the whole gospel that I preach to the gentiles, to make quite sure that the efforts I was making andhad already made should not be fruitless.
3 Ma neanche Tito che era con me, essendo Gentile, fu obbligato a circoncidersi;	3 Even then, and although Titus, a Greek, was with me, there was no demand that he should becircumcised;
4 ciò per via di quegli intrusi falsi fratelli che si ficcaron dentro a insidiare la libertà che noi abbiamo in Cristo Gesù, per ridurci in servitù,	4 but because of some false brothers who had secretly insinuated themselves to spy on the freedom thatwe have in Christ Jesus, intending to reduce us to slavery-
5 ma a costoro neanche per il momento volemmo assoggettarci a cedere affinchè la verità del Vangelo rimanesse integra rispetto a voi.	5 people we did not defer to for one moment, or the truth of the gospel preached to you might have beencompromised. . .
6 E da quelli che sembrano essere qualcosa (quali erano una volta, non vuol dir nulla per me: Dio non ha riguardo a persone), questi che sembrano qualcosa non aggiunsero nulla [a quel che io esposi],	6 but those who were recognised as important people -- whether they actual y were important or not:There is no favouritism with God -those recognised leaders, I am saying, had nothing to add to my message.
7 ma al contrario vedendo che a me fu affidata l'evangelizzazione degl'incirconcisi, così come Pietro ne aveva l'incarico pei circoncisi,	7 On the contrary, once they saw that the gospel for the uncircumcised had been entrusted to me, just asto Peter the gospel for the circumcised
8 (giacchè chi aveva dato energia a Pietro per l'apostolato della circoncisione diè potere anche a me per le genti),	8 (for he who empowered Peter's apostolate to the circumcision also empowered mine to the gentiles),
9 e conosciuta la grazia a me concessa, Giacomo e Cefa e Giovanni, quelli che sono riputati le colonne, porsero a me e a Barnaba le destre a segno di unione e società fra noi, affinchè noi andassimo alle genti, e loro alla circoncisione;	9 and when they acknowledged the grace that had been given to me, then James and Cephas and John,who were the ones recognised as pil ars, offered their right hands to Barnabas and to me as a sign ofpartnership: we were to go to the gentiles and they to the circumcised.
10 e ci ricordassimo solo dei poveri, ciò appunto che io mi son dato premura di fare.	10 They asked nothing more than that we should remember to help the poor, as indeed I was anxious todo in any case.
11 Quando poi venne Cefa in Antiochia, gli resistei in faccia perchè aveva torto.	11 However, when Cephas came to Antioch, then I did oppose him to his face since he was manifestly inthe wrong.
12 Difatti prima che venissero alcune persone da parte di Giacomo, mangiava coi Gentili, venute quelle si ritirò e se ne stette in disparte per paura di quei che provenivano dalla circoncisione.	12 Before certain people from James came, he used to eat with gentiles; but as soon as these came, hebacked out and kept apart from them, out of fear of the circumcised.
13 E a tale simulazione di lui consentirono anche gli altri Giudei, sì che anche Barnaba fu trascinato da loro a quella simulazione.	13 And the rest of the Jews put on the same act as he did, so that even Barnabas was carried away bytheir insincerity.
14 Or quando io vidi che non camminavano rettamente secondo la verità del Vangelo, dissi a Cefa alla presenza di tutti: «Se tu che sei Giudei vivi da Gentile, non da Giudeo, perchè costringi i Gentili a far come i Giudei?».	14 When I saw, though, that their behaviour was not true to the gospel, I said to Cephas in front of al ofthem, 'Since you, though you are a Jew, live like the gentiles and not like the Jews, how can you compel thegentiles to live like the Jews?'
15 Noi di nascita siamo Giudei, e non peccatori provenienti dai Gentili,	15 We who were born Jews and not gentile sinners
16 ma sapendo che non è giustificato un uomo dalle opere della Legge, bensì solo per la fede di Gesù Cristo, anche noi abbiamo creduto in Cristo Gesù per essere giustificati in forza della fede in Cristo, e non già in forza della Legge, per la ragione che dalle opere della Legge nessuna persona sarà giustificata.	16 have nevertheless learnt that someone is reckoned as upright not by practising the Law but by faith inJesus Christ; and we too came to believe in Christ Jesus so as to be reckoned as upright by faith in Christ andnot by practising the Law: since no human being can be found upright by keeping the Law.
17 Se poi procurando d'esser giustificati in Cristo, fossimo trovati anche noi peccatori, si avrebbe a dire dunque che Cristo sia ministro di peccato? Certo che no.	17 Now if we too are found to be sinners on the grounds that we seek our justification in Christ, it wouldsurely fol ow that Christ was at the service of sin. Out of the question!
18 Poichè se le cose che ho distrutto di nuovo le edifico, mi fo da me prevaricatore.	18 If I now rebuild everything I once demolished, I prove that I was wrong before.
19 Ma io per la Legge sono morto alla Legge, per vivere a Dio. Sono stato crocifisso con Cristo;	19 In fact, through the Law I am dead to the Law so that I can be alive to God. I have been crucified withChrist
20 e vivo non più io, ma vive in me Cristo; e quel che vivo nella carne, vivo nella fede che ho nel Figliuol di Dio che mi ha amato e ha dato se stesso per me.	20 and yet I am alive; yet it is no longer I, but Christ living in me. The life that I am now living, subject tothe limitation of human nature, I am living in faith, faith in the Son of God who loved me and gave himself for me.
21 Io non vo' render vana la grazia di Dio, perchè se la giustizia si avesse già per la Legge, allora Cristo sarebbe morto invano.	21 I am not setting aside God's grace as of no value; it is merely that if saving justice comes through the Law, Christ died needlessly.
