| 3 Il Signore è paziente, pur avendo grande potenza, ma non esenta nessuno lasciandolo impunito. Il Signore ha il suo sentiero in mezzo ai turbini e alle tempeste, i nembi son la polvere de' suoi piedi. | 3 The LORD is slow to anger and of great might, and the LORD will by no means clear the guilty. His way is in whirlwind and storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet. |
| 4 Sgrida il mare e lo dissecca, e riduce in un deserto tutti i fiumi. Basan e il Carmelo sbigottirono, impallidirono i fiori del Libano. | 4 He rebukes the sea and makes it dry, he dries up all the rivers; Bashan and Carmel wither, the bloom of Lebanon fades. |
| 5 I monti ne furono scossie i colli si disfecero; tremò la terra al suo affacciarsi, e il mondo con tutti i suoi abitatori. | 5 The mountains quake before him, the hills melt; the earth is laid waste before him, the world and all that dwell therein. |
| 6 Di fronte al suo sdegno chi potrà reggere? e chi resisterà alla sua collera accesa? La sua indignazione, come fuoco, è traboccata, le rupi stesse ne furon squagliate. | 6 Who can stand before his indignation? Who can endure the heat of his anger? His wrath is poured out like fire, and the rocks are broken asunder by him. |
| 7 Buono è il Signore; è conforto nel giorno della tribolazione, e si prende cura di coloro che sperano in Lui. | 7 The LORD is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; he knows those who take refuge in him. |
| 8 Con un'onda travolgente irromperàe farà sterminio completo di quel luogo, e i suoi nemici saranno da tenebre incalzati. | 8 But with an overflowing flood he will make a full end of his adversaries, and will pursue his enemies into darkness. |
| 9 Che state meditando contro il Signore? Egli compirà lo sterminio, e la tribolazione non sopravverrà due volte. | 9 What do you plot against the LORD? He will make a full end; he will not take vengeance twice on his foes. |
| 10 Perchè, come le spine intricate insieme, tale il convito di quei che insieme banchettano: saranno consumati come fascio di stoppa secca. | 10 Like entangled thorns they are consumed, like dry stubble. |
| 11 Da te uscirà chi medita male contro il Signore, chi ha il pensiero rivolto a disegni perversi. | 11 Did one not come out from you, who plotted evil against the LORD, and counseled villainy? |
| 12 Ma così dice il Signore: «Siano pure perfetti non che numerosi, con tutto ciò saranno recisi e passeranno: se ti avrò afflitto una volta, non ti affliggerò oltre. | 12 Thus says the LORD, "Though they be strong and many, they will be cut off and pass away. Though I have afflicted you, I will afflict you no more. |
| 13 È l'ora che romperò il giogo di lui da sopra il tuo dorso, e spezzerò le tue catene. | 13 And now I will break his yoke from off you and will burst your bonds asunder." |
| 14 E il Signore si è pronunciato contro di te: non resterà più alcun germe del tuo nome; dalla casa del tuo dio, sterminerò le statue e le immagini di getto e ne farò la tua tomba, perchè fosti disprezzato. | 14 The LORD has given commandment about you: "No more shall your name be perpetuated; from the house of your gods I will cut off the graven image and the molten image. I will make your grave, for you are vile." |
| 15 Ecco sui monti i piedi di colui che porta la buona novella e che annunzia la pace: celebra, o Giuda, le tue feste, sciogli i tuoi voti; perchè non passerà mai più per la tua terra l'empio: perì del tutto. | 15 Behold, on the mountains the feet of him who brings good tidings, who proclaims peace! Keep your feasts, O Judah, fulfil your vows, for never again shall the wicked come against you, he is utterly cut off. |
