1 - Questo è il libro dei comandamenti di Dio, e la legge che sussiste in eterno! Tutti quelli che ad essa si attengono, giungono alla vita, e quelli che l'abbandonano, vanno alla morte.	1 She is the book of the precepts of God, the law that endures forever; All who cling to her will live, but those will die who forsake her.
2 Ritorna, Giacobbe, e riafferrala, avanzati sotto il suo splendore, dietro il suo lume.	2 Turn, O Jacob, and receive her: walk by her light toward splendor.
3 Non cedere ad altri la tua gloria, nè i tuoi privilegi, a gente straniera.	3 Give not your glory to another, your privileges to an alien race.
4 Noi beati, noi Israele, perchè ciò che piace a Dio a noi è manifesto.	4 Blessed are we, O Israel; for what pleases God is known to us!
5 Fate animo, o popolo di Dio, o sacre memorie d'Israele!	5 Fear not, my people! Remember, Israel,
6 Siete stati venduti alle gentinon a vostra perdizione; ma avendo voi cimentato l'ira di Dio, per questo foste dati in potere degli avversari.	6 You were sold to the nations not for your destruction; It was because you angered God that you were handed over to your foes.
7 Sì, avete irritato colui che vi fece, il Dio eterno, andando a sacrificare ai demoni e non a lui; avete dimenticato Dio che vi allevò, avete contristato colei che vi nutrì, Gerusalemme.	7 For you provoked your Maker with sacrifices to demons, to no-gods;
8 Or essa, che fu spettatrice dei castighirovesciati da Dio su di voi, essa vi parla:	8 You forsook the Eternal God who nourished you, and you grieved Jerusalem who fostered you.
9 «Udite, o sobborghi di Sion, il Signore mi ha inflitto un lutto grande.	9 She indeed saw coming upon you the anger of God; and she said: "Hear, you neighbors of Zion! God has brought great mourning upon me,
10 Ho dovuto vedere la schiavitù del mio popolo, dei miei figli e delle mie figlieche l'Eterno fece piombare addosso a loro.	10 For I have seen the captivity that the Eternal God has brought upon my sons and daughters.
11 Li aveva allevati in mezzo alla gioia e li vidi partire nel pianto e nel duolo.	11 With joy I fostered them; but with mourning and lament I let them go.
12 Nessuno goda di vedermi vedova e desolata; pur troppo di molti sono stata privata, pei peccati dei figli miei, perchè si sviarono dalla legge di Dio.	12 Let no one gloat over me, a widow, bereft of many: For the sins of my children I am left desolate, because they turned from the law of God,
13 Avevano misconosciuto i suoi statuti, e non camminarono sulla strada dei comandamenti di Dio, e per le vie della sua verità non procedettero con giustizia.	13 and did not acknowledge his statutes; In the ways of God's commandments they did not walk, nor did they tread the disciplined paths of his justice.
14 Vengano i suburbani di Sion a commemorare la schiavitù dei miei figli e delle mie figlie, che addusse su di loro l'Eterno.	14 "Let Zion's neighbors come, to take note of the captivity of my sons and daughters, brought upon them by the Eternal God.
15 Perchè vi scatenò contro una gente di lontano, una gente senza ritegno, di barbara loquela, che non rispettò l'età senile e dei pargoli non sentì pietà.	15 He has brought against them a nation from afar, a nation ruthless and of alien speech, That has neither reverence for age nor tenderness for childhood;
16 E strapparono alla vedova i cari suoi e privatala della figliolanza, sola la lasciarono.	16 They have led away this widow's cherished sons, have left me solitary, without daughters.
17 Ed io come potrei aiutarvi?	17 What can I do to help you?
18 Colui che su di voi adunò i maliegli vi trarrà dalle mani dei vostri nemici.	18 He who has brought this evil upon you must himself deliver you from your enemies' hands.
19 Andatevene, figliuoli, andatevene! e io me ne resterò qui sola.	19 Farewell, my children, farewell: I am left desolate.
20 Ho deposto l'indumento festivoe ho indossato il cilicio implorante pietà, e alzerò il mio grido verso l'Altissimo tutti i giorni miei.	20 I have taken off the garment of peace, have put on sackcloth for my prayer of supplication, and while I live I will cry out to the Eternal God.
21 Fatevi animo, figliuoli, invocate il Signore, e vi strapperà dalle mani dei principi vostri nemici.	21 "Fear not, my children; call upon God, who will deliver you from oppression at enemy hands.
22 Io ho sperato la salvezza vostra dall'Eterno, e la gioia mi viene da parte del Santo, per la misericordiache giungerà a voi dall'Eterno, nostro salvatore.	22 I have trusted in the Eternal God for your welfare, and joy has come to me from the Holy One Because of the mercy that will swiftly reach you from your eternal savior.
23 Vi ho visti partire nel duolo e nel pianto, e il Signore vi ricondurrà a me nella gioia e nell'allegrezza che saranno per sempre.	23 With mourning and lament I sent you forth, but God will give you back to me with enduring gladness and joy.
24 Perchè, come le vicine di Sion hanno visto la vostra schiavitù giungere da Dio, così da Dio vedranno presto la vostra liberazione giungere a voi, con onore grande e splendore eterno.	24 As Zion's neighbors lately saw you taken captive, so shall they soon see God's salvation come to you, with great glory and the splendor of the Eternal God.
25 Figliuoli, sopportate con pazienza l'ira che è venuta su di voi; il tuo nemico ti ha perseguitato, ma vedrai presto la sua ruinae alzerai il piede sulla sua cervice.	25 "My children, bear patiently the anger that has come from God upon you; Your enemies have persecuted you, and you will soon see their destruction and trample upon their necks.
26 Oh, i miei cari figli s'incamminarono per vie scabrose, furon trascinati come gregge depredato dai nemici!	26 My pampered children have trodden rough roads, carried off by their enemies like sheep in a raid.
27 Ma fatevi animo, figliuoli, e alzate il vostro grido al Signore, è rimasta di voi memoria presso colui che vi condusse via.	27 Fear not, my children; call out to God! He who brought this upon you will remember you.
28 Perchè, come avete fatto il pensiero di sbandarvi da Dio, così, dieci volte più ardentemente tornando, lo ricercherete.	28 As your hearts have been disposed to stray from God, turn now ten times the more to seek him;
29 Sì, colui che adunò su di voi i mali, adunerà su di voi eterne gioie, col darvi la salvezza».	29 For he who has brought disaster upon you will, in saving you, bring you back enduring joy."
30 Fatti animo, o Gerusalemme, chi ti ha dato il suo nome ti esorta.	30 Fear not, Jerusalem! He who gave you your name is your encouragement.
31 Periranno quei disgraziati che ti maltrattaronoe quei che si rallegrarono della tua ruina saranno puniti;	31 Fearful are those who harmed you, who rejoiced at your downfall;
32 le città dove furono servi i tuoi nati saranno castigate, insieme a quella che ritenne i figli tuoi.	32 Fearful are the cities where your children were enslaved, fearful the city that took your sons.
33 Come ha goduto della tua ruina e si è rallegrata della tua caduta, così piangerà nella sua propria desolazione.	33 As that city rejoiced at your collapse, and made merry at your downfall, so shall she grieve over her own desolation.
34 Sarà troncata l'esultanza della sua moltitudine, il suo tripudio si convertirà in lutto.	34 I will take from her the joyous throngs, and her exultation shall be turned to mourning:
35 Un fuoco le sopravverrà dall'Eterno, per lunghi giornie sarà abitata da esseri diabolici per un tempo molto lungo.	35 For fire shall come upon her from the Eternal God, for a long time, and demons shall dwell in her from that time on.
36 Volgi l'occhio ad oriente, o Gerusalemme, e guarda la letizia che ti viene da Dio!	36 Look to the east, Jerusalem! behold the joy that comes to you from God.
37 Ecco che rivengono i figli tuoi che hai visti partire in dispersione, vengono insieme riuniti dall'oriente e dall'occidente, sulla parola del Santo, esultanti della gloria di Dio!	37 Here come your sons whom you once let go, gathered in from the east and from the west By the word of the Holy One, rejoicing in the glory of God.
