| 2 Fa[nne] parte a sette e anche a otto, perchè non sai qual sciagura piomberà sulla terra. | 2 Give a portion to seven, or even to eight, for you know not what evil may happen on earth. |
| 3 Quando le nuvole son piene, riversan la pioggia sulla terra. Se un albero cade a mezzodì o a settentrione, là dove cade, ivi resterà. | 3 If the clouds are full of rain, they empty themselves on the earth; and if a tree falls to the south or to the north, in the place where the tree falls, there it will lie. |
| 4 Chi bada al vento, non semina, e chi osserva le nuvole non mieterà mai. | 4 He who observes the wind will not sow; and he who regards the clouds will not reap. |
| 5 Come tu ignori la via del vento, nè sai in che maniera si forman le ossa in seno della donna gravida, così ignori l'opera di Dio, ch'è il fattor d'ogni cosa. | 5 As you do not know how the spirit comes to the bones in the womb of a woman with child, so you do not know the work of God who makes everything. |
| 6 Al mattino semina la tua sementa, e la sera non stia oziosa la tua mano; perchè non sai quale [sementa] attecchirà meglio, se quella o questa; e se l'una e l'altra ugualmente, tanto meglio! | 6 In the morning sow your seed, and at evening withhold not your hand; for you do not know which will prosper, this or that, or whether both alike will be good. |
| 7 Dolce cosa è la luce, e gradito agli occhi di vedere il sole. | 7 Light is sweet, and it is pleasant for the eyes to behold the sun. |
| 8 Se molti anni viva l'uomo, se li goda tutti allegramente, e pensi ai giorni tenebrosi, che saran molti. Tutto l'avvenire è vanità! | 8 For if a man lives many years, let him rejoice in them all; but let him remember that the days of darkness will be many. All that comes is vanity. |
| 9 Godi, o giovane, nella tua adolescenza, e s'allieti il tuo cuore ne'dì della tua gioventù: segui le vie del tuo cuore e la vista dei tuoi occhi; ma sappi che per tutto questosarai chiamato da Dio in giudizio! | 9 Rejoice, O young man, in your youth, and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth; walk in the ways of your heart and the sight of your eyes. But know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment. |
| 10 Togli via il cruccio dal tuo cuore e tien lungi il male dalla tua carne. Perchè l'adolescenza e il piacere son vanità. | 10 Remove vexation from your mind, and put away pain from your body; for youth and the dawn of life are vanity. |
