1 και ελαλησεν κυριος προς μωυσην και ααρων λεγων1 Yahweh spoke to Moses and Aaron and said to them,
2 λαλησατε τοις υιοις ισραηλ λεγοντες ταυτα τα κτηνη α φαγεσθε απο παντων των κτηνων των επι της γης2 'Speak to the Israelites and say: "Of al animals living on land these are the creatures you may eat:
3 παν κτηνος διχηλουν οπλην και ονυχιστηρας ονυχιζον δυο χηλων και αναγον μηρυκισμον εν τοις κτηνεσιν ταυτα φαγεσθε3 "You may eat any animal that has a cloven hoof, divided into two parts, and that is a ruminant.
4 πλην απο τουτων ου φαγεσθε απο των αναγοντων μηρυκισμον και απο των διχηλουντων τας οπλας και ονυχιζοντων ονυχιστηρας τον καμηλον οτι αναγει μηρυκισμον τουτο οπλην δε ου διχηλει ακαθαρτον τουτο υμιν4 The fol owing, which either chew the cud or have a cloven hoof, are the ones that you may not eat: youwil regard the camel as unclean, because though it is ruminant, it does not have a cloven hoof;
5 και τον δασυποδα οτι αναγει μηρυκισμον τουτο και οπλην ου διχηλει ακαθαρτον τουτο υμιν5 you wil regard the coney as unclean, because though it is ruminant, it does not have a cloven hoof;
6 και τον χοιρογρυλλιον οτι αναγει μηρυκισμον τουτο και οπλην ου διχηλει ακαθαρτον τουτο υμιν6 you wil regard the hare as unclean, because though it is ruminant, it does not have a cloven hoof;
7 και τον υν οτι διχηλει οπλην τουτο και ονυχιζει ονυχας οπλης και τουτο ουκ αναγει μηρυκισμον ακαθαρτον τουτο υμιν7 you wil regard the pig as unclean, because though it has a cloven hoof, divided into two parts, it is nota ruminant.
8 απο των κρεων αυτων ου φαγεσθε και των θνησιμαιων αυτων ουχ αψεσθε ακαθαρτα ταυτα υμιν8 You will not eat the meat of these or touch their dead bodies; you wil regard them as unclean.
9 και ταυτα α φαγεσθε απο παντων των εν τοις υδασιν παντα οσα εστιν αυτοις πτερυγια και λεπιδες εν τοις υδασιν και εν ταις θαλασσαις και εν τοις χειμαρροις ταυτα φαγεσθε9 "Of al that lives in water, these you may eat: "Anything that has fins and scales, and lives in the water, whether in sea or river, you may eat.
10 και παντα οσα ουκ εστιν αυτοις πτερυγια ουδε λεπιδες εν τω υδατι η εν ταις θαλασσαις και εν τοις χειμαρροις απο παντων ων ερευγεται τα υδατα και απο πασης ψυχης ζωσης της εν τω υδατι βδελυγμα εστιν10 But anything in sea or river that does not have fins and scales, of al the smal water-creatures and althe living things found there, you wil regard as detestable.
11 και βδελυγματα εσονται υμιν απο των κρεων αυτων ουκ εδεσθε και τα θνησιμαια αυτων βδελυξεσθε11 You wil regard them as detestable; you must not eat their meat and you wil regard their carcases asdetestable.
12 και παντα οσα ουκ εστιν αυτοις πτερυγια και λεπιδες των εν τω υδατι βδελυγμα τουτο εστιν υμιν12 Anything that lives in water, but not having fins and scales, you wil regard as detestable.
13 και ταυτα βδελυξεσθε απο των πετεινων και ου βρωθησεται βδελυγμα εστιν τον αετον και τον γρυπα και τον αλιαιετον13 "Of the birds these are the ones that you wil regard as detestable; they may not be eaten, they aredetestable for eating: "The tawny vulture, the griffon, the osprey,
14 και τον γυπα και ικτινα και τα ομοια αυτω14 the kite, the various kinds of buzzard,
15 και κορακα και τα ομοια αυτω15 all kinds of raven,
16 και στρουθον και γλαυκα και λαρον και τα ομοια αυτω και ιερακα και τα ομοια αυτω16 the ostrich, the screech owl, the seagul , the various kinds of hawk,
17 και νυκτικορακα και καταρρακτην και ιβιν17 horned owl, night owl, cormorant, barn owl,
18 και πορφυριωνα και πελεκανα και κυκνον18 ibis, pelican, white vulture,
19 και γλαυκα και ερωδιον και χαραδριον και τα ομοια αυτω και εποπα και νυκτεριδα19 stork, the various kinds of heron, the hoopoe and the bat.
20 και παντα τα ερπετα των πετεινων α πορευεται επι τεσσαρα βδελυγματα εστιν υμιν20 "Al winged insects moving on four feet you wil regard as detestable for eating.
21 αλλα ταυτα φαγεσθε απο των ερπετων των πετεινων α πορευεται επι τεσσαρα α εχει σκελη ανωτερον των ποδων αυτου πηδαν εν αυτοις επι της γης21 Of al these winged insects you may eat only the fol owing: those with the sort of legs above their feetwhich enable them to leap over the ground.
22 και ταυτα φαγεσθε απ' αυτων τον βρουχον και τα ομοια αυτω και τον αττακην και τα ομοια αυτω και την ακριδα και τα ομοια αυτη και τον οφιομαχην και τα ομοια αυτω22 These are the ones you may eat: the various kinds of migratory locust, the various kinds of solhamlocust, hargol locust and hagab locust.
23 παν ερπετον απο των πετεινων οις εστιν τεσσαρες ποδες βδελυγμα εστιν υμιν23 But al other winged insects on four feet you wil regard as detestable for eating.
24 και εν τουτοις μιανθησεσθε πας ο απτομενος των θνησιμαιων αυτων ακαθαρτος εσται εως εσπερας24 "By the fol owing you wil be made unclean. Anyone who touches the carcase of one wil be uncleanuntil evening.
25 και πας ο αιρων των θνησιμαιων αυτων πλυνει τα ιματια και ακαθαρτος εσται εως εσπερας25 Anyone who picks up their carcases must wash his clothing and wil be unclean until evening.
26 εν πασιν τοις κτηνεσιν ο εστιν διχηλουν οπλην και ονυχιστηρας ονυχιζει και μηρυκισμον ου μαρυκαται ακαθαρτα εσονται υμιν πας ο απτομενος των θνησιμαιων αυτων ακαθαρτος εσται εως εσπερας26 Animals that have hoofs, but not cloven, and that are not ruminant, you wil regard as unclean;anyone who touches them will be unclean.
27 και πας ος πορευεται επι χειρων εν πασι τοις θηριοις α πορευεται επι τεσσαρα ακαθαρτα εσται υμιν πας ο απτομενος των θνησιμαιων αυτων ακαθαρτος εσται εως εσπερας27 Those four-footed animals which walk on the flat of their paws you wil regard as unclean; anyonewho touches their carcases wil be unclean until evening,
28 και ο αιρων των θνησιμαιων αυτων πλυνει τα ιματια και ακαθαρτος εσται εως εσπερας ακαθαρτα ταυτα υμιν εστιν28 and anyone who picks up their carcases must wash his clothing and wil be unclean until evening.You will regard them as unclean.
29 και ταυτα υμιν ακαθαρτα απο των ερπετων των ερποντων επι της γης η γαλη και ο μυς και ο κροκοδειλος ο χερσαιος29 "Of the smal creatures which crawl along the ground, these are the ones which you wil regard asunclean: the mole, the rat, the various kinds of lizard:
30 μυγαλη και χαμαιλεων και καλαβωτης και σαυρα και ασπαλαξ30 gecko, koah, letaah, chameleon and tinshamet.
31 ταυτα ακαθαρτα υμιν απο παντων των ερπετων των επι της γης πας ο απτομενος αυτων τεθνηκοτων ακαθαρτος εσται εως εσπερας31 "Of al the smal creatures, these are the animals which you must regard as disgusting. Anyone whotouches them when they are dead will be unclean until evening.
32 και παν εφ' ο αν επιπεση απ' αυτων τεθνηκοτων αυτων ακαθαρτον εσται απο παντος σκευους ξυλινου η ιματιου η δερματος η σακκου παν σκευος ο εαν ποιηθη εργον εν αυτω εις υδωρ βαφησεται και ακαθαρτον εσται εως εσπερας και καθαρον εσται32 "Any object on which one of these creatures fal s when it is dead becomes unclean: wooden utensil,clothing, skin, sacking, any utensil whatever. It must be immersed in water and wil remain unclean until evening:then it wil be clean.
33 και παν σκευος οστρακινον εις ο εαν πεση απο τουτων ενδον οσα εαν ενδον η ακαθαρτα εσται και αυτο συντριβησεται33 If the creature fal s into an earthenware vessel, the vessel must be broken; whatever the vesselcontains is unclean.
34 και παν βρωμα ο εσθεται εις ο εαν επελθη επ' αυτο υδωρ ακαθαρτον εσται και παν ποτον ο πινεται εν παντι αγγειω ακαθαρτον εσται34 Any edible food wil be unclean if the water touches it; any drinkable liquid will be unclean, no matterwhat its container.
35 και παν ο εαν πεση απο των θνησιμαιων αυτων επ' αυτο ακαθαρτον εσται κλιβανοι και κυθροποδες καθαιρεθησονται ακαθαρτα ταυτα εστιν και ακαθαρτα ταυτα υμιν εσονται35 Anything on which the carcase of such a creature may fal wil be unclean: be it oven or stove, it mustbe destroyed; for they are unclean and you wil regard them as unclean
36 πλην πηγων υδατων και λακκου και συναγωγης υδατος εσται καθαρον ο δε απτομενος των θνησιμαιων αυτων ακαθαρτος εσται36 (although springs, wel s and stretches of water wil remain clean); anyone who touches one of theircarcases wil be unclean.
37 εαν δε επιπεση των θνησιμαιων αυτων επι παν σπερμα σποριμον ο σπαρησεται καθαρον εσται37 If one of their carcases fal s on any kind of seed, the seed will remain clean;
38 εαν δε επιχυθη υδωρ επι παν σπερμα και επιπεση των θνησιμαιων αυτων επ' αυτο ακαθαρτον εστιν υμιν38 but if the seed has been moistened and one of their carcases fal s on it, you wil regard it as unclean.
39 εαν δε αποθανη των κτηνων ο εστιν υμιν τουτο φαγειν ο απτομενος των θνησιμαιων αυτων ακαθαρτος εσται εως εσπερας39 "If one of the animals that you use as food dies, anyone who touches the carcase wil be unclean untilevening;
40 και ο εσθιων απο των θνησιμαιων τουτων πλυνει τα ιματια και ακαθαρτος εσται εως εσπερας και ο αιρων απο θνησιμαιων αυτων πλυνει τα ιματια και λουσεται υδατι και ακαθαρτος εσται εως εσπερας40 anyone who eats any of the carcase must wash his clothing and will remain unclean until evening;anyone who picks up the carcase must wash his clothing and wil remain unclean until evening.
41 και παν ερπετον ο ερπει επι της γης βδελυγμα τουτο εσται υμιν ου βρωθησεται41 "Any creature that swarms on the ground is detestable for eating; it must not be eaten.
42 και πας ο πορευομενος επι κοιλιας και πας ο πορευομενος επι τεσσαρα δια παντος ο πολυπληθει ποσιν εν πασιν τοις ερπετοις τοις ερπουσιν επι της γης ου φαγεσθε αυτο οτι βδελυγμα υμιν εστιν42 Anything that moves on its bel y, anything that moves on four legs or more -- in short all the creaturesthat swarm on the ground -- you will not eat, since they are detestable.
43 και ου μη βδελυξητε τας ψυχας υμων εν πασι τοις ερπετοις τοις ερπουσιν επι της γης και ου μιανθησεσθε εν τουτοις και ουκ ακαθαρτοι εσεσθε εν αυτοις43 Do not make yourselves detestable with al these swarming creatures; do not defile yourselves withthem, do not be defiled by them.
44 οτι εγω ειμι κυριος ο θεος υμων και αγιασθησεσθε και αγιοι εσεσθε οτι αγιος ειμι εγω κυριος ο θεος υμων και ου μιανειτε τας ψυχας υμων εν πασιν τοις ερπετοις τοις κινουμενοις επι της γης44 For it is I, Yahweh, who am your God. You have been sanctified and have become holy because I amholy: do not defile yourselves with all these creatures that swarm on the ground.
45 οτι εγω ειμι κυριος ο αναγαγων υμας εκ γης αιγυπτου ειναι υμων θεος και εσεσθε αγιοι οτι αγιος ειμι εγω κυριος45 Yes, it is I, Yahweh, who brought you out of Egypt to be your God: you must therefore be holybecause I am holy." '
46 ουτος ο νομος περι των κτηνων και των πετεινων και πασης ψυχης της κινουμενης εν τω υδατι και πασης ψυχης ερπουσης επι της γης46 Such is the law concerning animals, birds, al living creatures that move in water and al creaturesthat swarm on the ground.
47 διαστειλαι ανα μεσον των ακαθαρτων και ανα μεσον των καθαρων και ανα μεσον των ζωογονουντων τα εσθιομενα και ανα μεσον των ζωογονουντων τα μη εσθιομενα47 Its purpose is to distinguish the clean from the unclean, the creatures that may be eaten from thosethat may not be eaten.
