LXXDOUAI-RHEIMS
-1 Better is the poor man, that walketh in his simplicity, than a rich man that is perverse in his lips, and unwise.
-2 Where there is no knowledge of the soul, there is no good: and he that is hasty with his feet shall stumble.
αφροσυνη ανδρος λυμαινεται τας οδους αυτου τον δε θεον αιτιαται τη καρδια αυτου3 The folly of a man supplanteth his seeps: and he fretteth in his mind against God.
πλουτος προστιθησιν φιλους πολλους ο δε πτωχος και απο του υπαρχοντος φιλου λειπεται4 Riches make many friends: but from the poor man, even they whom he had, depart.
μαρτυς ψευδης ουκ ατιμωρητος εσται ο δε εγκαλων αδικως ου διαφευξεται5 A false witness shall not be unpunished: and he that speaketh lies shall not escape.
πολλοι θεραπευουσιν προσωπα βασιλεων πας δε ο κακος γινεται ονειδος ανδρι6 Many honour the person of him that is mighty, and are friends of him that giveth gifts.
πας ος αδελφον πτωχον μισει και φιλιας μακραν εσται εννοια αγαθη τοις ειδοσιν αυτην εγγιει ανηρ δε φρονιμος ευρησει αυτην ο πολλα κακοποιων τελεσιουργει κακιαν ος δε ερεθιζει λογους ου σωθησεται7 The brethren of the poor man hate him: moreover also his friends have departed far from him. He that followeth after words only, shall have nothing.
ο κτωμενος φρονησιν αγαπα εαυτον ος δε φυλασσει φρονησιν ευρησει αγαθα8 But he that possesseth a mind, loveth his own soul, and he that keepeth prudence shall find good things.
μαρτυς ψευδης ουκ ατιμωρητος εσται ος δ' αν εκκαυση κακιαν απολειται υπ' αυτης9 A false witness shall not be unpunished: and he that speaketh lies, shall perish.
ου συμφερει αφρονι τρυφη και εαν οικετης αρξηται μεθ' υβρεως δυναστευειν10 Delicacies are not seemly for a fool: nor for a servant to have rule over princes.
ελεημων ανηρ μακροθυμει το δε καυχημα αυτου επερχεται παρανομοις11 The learning of a man is known by patience and his glory is to pass over wrongs.
βασιλεως απειλη ομοια βρυγμω λεοντος ωσπερ δε δροσος επι χορτω ουτως το ιλαρον αυτου12 As the roaring of a lion, so also is the anger of a king: and his cheerfulness as the dew upon the grass.
αισχυνη πατρι υιος αφρων και ουχ αγναι ευχαι απο μισθωματος εταιρας13 A foolish son is the grief of his father: and a wrangling wife is like a roof continually dropping through.
οικον και υπαρξιν μεριζουσιν πατερες παισιν παρα δε θεου αρμοζεται γυνη ανδρι14 House and riches are given by parents: but a prudent wife is properly from the Lord.
δειλια κατεχει ανδρογυναιον ψυχη δε αεργου πεινασει15 Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep, and an idle soul shall suffer hunger.
ος φυλασσει εντολην τηρει την εαυτου ψυχην ο δε καταφρονων των εαυτου οδων απολειται16 He that keepeth the commandment, keepeth his own soul: but he that neglecteth his own way, shall die.
δανιζει θεω ο ελεων πτωχον κατα δε το δομα αυτου ανταποδωσει αυτω17 He that hath mercy on the poor, lendeth to the Lord: and he will repay him.
παιδευε υιον σου ουτως γαρ εσται ευελπις εις δε υβριν μη επαιρου τη ψυχη σου18 Chastise thy son, despair not: but to the killing of him set not thy soul.
κακοφρων ανηρ πολλα ζημιωθησεται εαν δε λοιμευηται και την ψυχην αυτου προσθησει19 He that is impatient, shall suffer damage: and when he shall take away he shall add another thing.
ακουε υιε παιδειαν πατρος σου ινα σοφος γενη επ' εσχατων σου20 Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayst be wise in thy latter end.
πολλοι λογισμοι εν καρδια ανδρος η δε βουλη του κυριου εις τον αιωνα μενει21 There are many thoughts in the heart of a man: but the will of the Lord shall stand firm.
καρπος ανδρι ελεημοσυνη κρεισσων δε πτωχος δικαιος η πλουσιος ψευστης22 A needy man is merciful: and better is the poor than the lying man.
φοβος κυριου εις ζωην ανδρι ο δε αφοβος αυλισθησεται εν τοποις ου ουκ επισκοπειται γνωσις23 The fear of the Lord is unto life: and he shall abide in fulness without being visited with evil.
ο εγκρυπτων εις τον κολπον αυτου χειρας αδικως ουδε τω στοματι ου μη προσαγαγη αυτας24 The slothful hideth his hand under his armpit, and will not so much as bring it to his mouth.
λοιμου μαστιγουμενου αφρων πανουργοτερος γινεται εαν δε ελεγχης ανδρα φρονιμον νοησει αισθησιν25 The wicked man being; scourged, the fool shall be wiser: but if thou rebuke a wise man he will understand discipline.
ο ατιμαζων πατερα και απωθουμενος μητερα αυτου καταισχυνθησεται και επονειδιστος εσται26 He that afflicteth his father, and chaseth away his mother, is infamous and unhappy.
υιος απολειπομενος φυλαξαι παιδειαν πατρος μελετησει ρησεις κακας27 Cease not, O my son, to hear instruction, and be not ignorant of the words of knowledge.
ο εγγυωμενος παιδα αφρονα καθυβριζει δικαιωμα στομα δε ασεβων καταπιεται κρισεις28 An unjust witness scorneth judgment: and the mouth of the wicked devoureth iniquity.
ετοιμαζονται ακολαστοις μαστιγες και τιμωριαι ωμοις αφρονων29 Judgments are prepared for scorners: and striking hammers for the bodies of fools.
