συνεσεως τω ασαφ προσεχετε λαος μου τον νομον μου κλινατε το ους υμων εις τα ρηματα του στοματος μου | 1 The understanding of Asaph. O my people, attend to my law. Incline your ears to the words of my mouth. |
ανοιξω εν παραβολαις το στομα μου φθεγξομαι προβληματα απ' αρχης | 2 I will open my mouth in parables. I will speak about concepts that are from the beginning. |
οσα ηκουσαμεν και εγνωμεν αυτα και οι πατερες ημων διηγησαντο ημιν | 3 We have heard and known such great things, as our fathers have described to us. |
ουκ εκρυβη απο των τεκνων αυτων εις γενεαν ετεραν απαγγελλοντες τας αινεσεις του κυριου και τας δυναστειας αυτου και τα θαυμασια αυτου α εποιησεν | 4 These things have not been hidden from their sons in any generation: declaring the praises of the Lord, and his virtues, and the wonders that he has done. |
και ανεστησεν μαρτυριον εν ιακωβ και νομον εθετο εν ισραηλ οσα ενετειλατο τοις πατρασιν ημων του γνωρισαι αυτα τοις υιοις αυτων | 5 And he has received testimony with Jacob, and he has set a law within Israel. Such great things, he has commanded our fathers, so as to make these things known to their sons, |
οπως αν γνω γενεα ετερα υιοι οι τεχθησομενοι και αναστησονται και απαγγελουσιν αυτα τοις υιοις αυτων | 6 so that another generation might know them, and so that the sons, who will be born and who will grow up, shall describe them to their sons. |
ινα θωνται επι τον θεον την ελπιδα αυτων και μη επιλαθωνται των εργων του θεου και τας εντολας αυτου εκζητησουσιν | 7 So then, may they put their hope in God, and may they not forget the works of God, and may they seek his commandments. |
ινα μη γενωνται ως οι πατερες αυτων γενεα σκολια και παραπικραινουσα γενεα ητις ου κατηυθυνεν την καρδιαν αυτης και ουκ επιστωθη μετα του θεου το πνευμα αυτης | 8 May they not become like their fathers, a perverse and exasperating generation: a generation that does not straighten their heart and whose spirit is not trustworthy with God. |
υιοι εφραιμ εντεινοντες και βαλλοντες τοξοις εστραφησαν εν ημερα πολεμου | 9 The sons of Ephraim, who bend and shoot the bow, have been turned back in the day of battle. |
ουκ εφυλαξαν την διαθηκην του θεου και εν τω νομω αυτου ουκ ηθελον πορευεσθαι | 10 They have not kept the covenant of God. And they were not willing to walk in his law. |
και επελαθοντο των ευεργεσιων αυτου και των θαυμασιων αυτου ων εδειξεν αυτοις | 11 And they have been forgetful of his benefits, and of his miracle, which he revealed to them. |
εναντιον των πατερων αυτων α εποιησεν θαυμασια εν γη αιγυπτω εν πεδιω τανεως | 12 He performed miracles in the sight of their fathers, in the land of Egypt, in the field of Tanis. |
διερρηξεν θαλασσαν και διηγαγεν αυτους εστησεν υδατα ωσει ασκον | 13 He broke the sea and he led them through. And he stationed the waters, as if in a vessel. |
και ωδηγησεν αυτους εν νεφελη ημερας και ολην την νυκτα εν φωτισμω πυρος | 14 And he led them with a cloud by day, and with illumination by fire throughout the night. |
διερρηξεν πετραν εν ερημω και εποτισεν αυτους ως εν αβυσσω πολλη | 15 He broke through the rock in the wasteland, and he gave them to drink, as if from the great abyss. |
και εξηγαγεν υδωρ εκ πετρας και κατηγαγεν ως ποταμους υδατα | 16 He brought forth water from the rock, and he conducted the waters, as if they were rivers. |
και προσεθεντο ετι του αμαρτανειν αυτω παρεπικραναν τον υψιστον εν ανυδρω | 17 And yet, they continued to sin against him. In a waterless place, they provoked the Most High with resentment. |
και εξεπειρασαν τον θεον εν ταις καρδιαις αυτων του αιτησαι βρωματα ταις ψυχαις αυτων | 18 And they tempted God in their hearts, by asking for food according to their desires. |
και κατελαλησαν του θεου και ειπαν μη δυνησεται ο θεος ετοιμασαι τραπεζαν εν ερημω | 19 And they spoke badly about God. They said, “Would God be able to prepare a table in the desert? |
επει επαταξεν πετραν και ερρυησαν υδατα και χειμαρροι κατεκλυσθησαν μη και αρτον δυναται δουναι η ετοιμασαι τραπεζαν τω λαω αυτου | 20 He struck the rock, and so waters flowed and the torrents flooded, but would even he be able to provide bread, or provide a table, for his people?” |
δια τουτο ηκουσεν κυριος και ανεβαλετο και πυρ ανηφθη εν ιακωβ και οργη ανεβη επι τον ισραηλ | 21 Therefore, the Lord heard, and he was dismayed, and a fire was kindled within Jacob, and an anger ascended into Israel. |
οτι ουκ επιστευσαν εν τω θεω ουδε ηλπισαν επι το σωτηριον αυτου | 22 For they neither put their trust in God, nor did they hope in his salvation. |
και ενετειλατο νεφελαις υπερανωθεν και θυρας ουρανου ανεωξεν | 23 And he commanded the clouds from above, and he opened the doors of heaven. |
και εβρεξεν αυτοις μαννα φαγειν και αρτον ουρανου εδωκεν αυτοις | 24 And he rained down manna upon them to eat, and he gave them the bread of heaven. |
αρτον αγγελων εφαγεν ανθρωπος επισιτισμον απεστειλεν αυτοις εις πλησμονην | 25 Man ate the bread of Angels. He sent them provisions in abundance. |
απηρεν νοτον εξ ουρανου και επηγαγεν εν τη δυναστεια αυτου λιβα | 26 He transferred the south wind from heaven, and, in his virtue, he brought in the Southwest wind. |
και εβρεξεν επ' αυτους ωσει χουν σαρκας και ωσει αμμον θαλασσων πετεινα πτερωτα | 27 And he rained down flesh upon them, as if it were dust, and feathered birds, as if they were the sand of the sea. |
και επεπεσον εις μεσον της παρεμβολης αυτων κυκλω των σκηνωματων αυτων | 28 And they fell down in the midst of their camp, encircling their tabernacles. |
και εφαγοσαν και ενεπλησθησαν σφοδρα και την επιθυμιαν αυτων ηνεγκεν αυτοις | 29 And they ate until they were greatly satisfied, and he brought to them according to their desires. |
ουκ εστερηθησαν απο της επιθυμιας αυτων ετι της βρωσεως αυτων ουσης εν τω στοματι αυτων | 30 They were not cheated out of what they wanted. Their food was still in their mouth, |
και οργη του θεου ανεβη επ' αυτους και απεκτεινεν εν τοις πιοσιν αυτων και τους εκλεκτους του ισραηλ συνεποδισεν | 31 and then the wrath of God came upon them. And he slew the fat ones among them, and he impeded the elect of Israel. |
εν πασιν τουτοις ημαρτον ετι και ουκ επιστευσαν εν τοις θαυμασιοις αυτου | 32 In all these things, they continued to sin, and they were not trustworthy with his miracles. |
και εξελιπον εν ματαιοτητι αι ημεραι αυτων και τα ετη αυτων μετα σπουδης | 33 And their days faded away into vanity, and their years with haste. |
οταν απεκτεννεν αυτους εξεζητουν αυτον και επεστρεφον και ωρθριζον προς τον θεον | 34 When he slew them, then they sought him. And they returned, and they drew near to him in the early morning. |
και εμνησθησαν οτι ο θεος βοηθος αυτων εστιν και ο θεος ο υψιστος λυτρωτης αυτων εστιν | 35 And they were mindful that God is their helper and that the Most High God is their redeemer. |
και ηπατησαν αυτον εν τω στοματι αυτων και τη γλωσση αυτων εψευσαντο αυτω | 36 And they chose him with their mouth, and then they lied to him with their tongue. |
η δε καρδια αυτων ουκ ευθεια μετ' αυτου ουδε επιστωθησαν εν τη διαθηκη αυτου | 37 For their heart was not upright with him, nor have they been living faithfully in his covenant. |
αυτος δε εστιν οικτιρμων και ιλασεται ταις αμαρτιαις αυτων και ου διαφθερει και πληθυνει του αποστρεψαι τον θυμον αυτου και ουχι εκκαυσει πασαν την οργην αυτου | 38 Yet he is merciful, and he will pardon their sins. And he will not destroy them. And he has abundantly turned aside his own wrath. And he did not enflame his wrath entirely. |
και εμνησθη οτι σαρξ εισιν πνευμα πορευομενον και ουκ επιστρεφον | 39 And he remembered that they are flesh: with a spirit that goes forth and does not return. |
ποσακις παρεπικραναν αυτον εν τη ερημω παρωργισαν αυτον εν γη ανυδρω | 40 How often did they provoke him in the desert and stir him to wrath in a waterless place? |
και επεστρεψαν και επειρασαν τον θεον και τον αγιον του ισραηλ παρωξυναν | 41 And they turned back and tempted God, and they exasperated the Holy One of Israel. |
ουκ εμνησθησαν της χειρος αυτου ημερας ης ελυτρωσατο αυτους εκ χειρος θλιβοντος | 42 They did not remember his hand, in the day that he redeemed them from the hand of the one troubling them. |
ως εθετο εν αιγυπτω τα σημεια αυτου και τα τερατα αυτου εν πεδιω τανεως | 43 Thus, he positioned his signs in Egypt and his wonders in the field of Tanis. |
και μετεστρεψεν εις αιμα τους ποταμους αυτων και τα ομβρηματα αυτων οπως μη πιωσιν | 44 And he turned their rivers into blood, along with their rain showers, so that they could not drink. |
εξαπεστειλεν εις αυτους κυνομυιαν και κατεφαγεν αυτους και βατραχον και διεφθειρεν αυτους | 45 He sent among them the common fly, and it devoured them, and the frog, and it scattered them. |
και εδωκεν τη ερυσιβη τον καρπον αυτων και τους πονους αυτων τη ακριδι | 46 And he gave up their fruits to mold and their labors to the locust. |
απεκτεινεν εν χαλαζη την αμπελον αυτων και τας συκαμινους αυτων εν τη παχνη | 47 And he slew their vineyards with hail and their mulberry trees with severe frost. |
και παρεδωκεν εις χαλαζαν τα κτηνη αυτων και την υπαρξιν αυτων τω πυρι | 48 And he delivered their cattle to the hail and their possessions to fire. |
εξαπεστειλεν εις αυτους οργην θυμου αυτου θυμον και οργην και θλιψιν αποστολην δι' αγγελων πονηρων | 49 And he sent the wrath of his indignation among them: indignation and wrath and tribulation, sent forth by evil angels. |
ωδοποιησεν τριβον τη οργη αυτου ουκ εφεισατο απο θανατου των ψυχων αυτων και τα κτηνη αυτων εις θανατον συνεκλεισεν | 50 He made way for the path of his anger. He did not spare their souls from death. And he enclosed their beasts of burden in death. |
και επαταξεν παν πρωτοτοκον εν αιγυπτω απαρχην των πονων αυτων εν τοις σκηνωμασι χαμ | 51 And he struck all the first-born in the land of Egypt: the first-fruits of all their labor in the tabernacles of Ham. |
και απηρεν ως προβατα τον λαον αυτου και ανηγαγεν αυτους ως ποιμνιον εν ερημω | 52 And he took away his own people like sheep, and he led them through the wilderness like a flock. |
και ωδηγησεν αυτους εν ελπιδι και ουκ εδειλιασαν και τους εχθρους αυτων εκαλυψεν θαλασσα | 53 And he led them out in hope, and they did not fear. And the sea covered their enemies. |
και εισηγαγεν αυτους εις οριον αγιασματος αυτου ορος τουτο ο εκτησατο η δεξια αυτου | 54 And he led them to the mountain of his sanctification: the mountain that his right hand had acquired. And he cast out the Gentiles before their face. And he divided their land by lot to them, with a line of distribution. |
και εξεβαλεν απο προσωπου αυτων εθνη και εκληροδοτησεν αυτους εν σχοινιω κληροδοσιας και κατεσκηνωσεν εν τοις σκηνωμασιν αυτων τας φυλας του ισραηλ | 55 And he caused the tribes of Israel to dwell in their tabernacles. |
και επειρασαν και παρεπικραναν τον θεον τον υψιστον και τα μαρτυρια αυτου ουκ εφυλαξαντο | 56 Yet they tempted and aggravated God Most High, and they did not keep his testaments. |
και απεστρεψαν και ησυνθετησαν καθως και οι πατερες αυτων και μετεστραφησαν εις τοξον στρεβλον | 57 And they turned themselves aside, and they did not serve the covenant. In the same manner as their fathers, they were turned backwards, like a crooked bow. |
και παρωργισαν αυτον εν τοις βουνοις αυτων και εν τοις γλυπτοις αυτων παρεζηλωσαν αυτον | 58 They impelled him to anger on their hills, and they provoked him to rivalry with their graven images. |
ηκουσεν ο θεος και υπερειδεν και εξουδενωσεν σφοδρα τον ισραηλ | 59 God listened, and he spurned them, and he reduced Israel greatly, almost to nothing. |
και απωσατο την σκηνην σηλωμ σκηνωμα αυτου ου κατεσκηνωσεν εν ανθρωποις | 60 And he rejected the tabernacle of Shiloh, his tabernacle where he had dwelt among men. |
και παρεδωκεν εις αιχμαλωσιαν την ισχυν αυτων και την καλλονην αυτων εις χειρας εχθρου | 61 And he delivered their virtue into captivity, and their beauty into the hands of the enemy. |
και συνεκλεισεν εις ρομφαιαν τον λαον αυτου και την κληρονομιαν αυτου υπερειδεν | 62 And he enclosed his people with the sword, and he spurned his inheritance. |
τους νεανισκους αυτων κατεφαγεν πυρ και αι παρθενοι αυτων ουκ επενθηθησαν | 63 Fire consumed their young men, and their virgins were not lamented. |
οι ιερεις αυτων εν ρομφαια επεσαν και αι χηραι αυτων ου κλαυσθησονται | 64 Their priests fell by the sword, and their widows did not weep. |
και εξηγερθη ως ο υπνων κυριος ως δυνατος κεκραιπαληκως εξ οινου | 65 And the Lord was awaked, as if out of sleep, and like a powerful man impaired by wine. |
και επαταξεν τους εχθρους αυτου εις τα οπισω ονειδος αιωνιον εδωκεν αυτοις | 66 And he struck his enemies on the back. He gave them over to everlasting disgrace. |
και απωσατο το σκηνωμα ιωσηφ και την φυλην εφραιμ ουκ εξελεξατο | 67 And he rejected the tabernacle of Joseph, and he did not choose the tribe of Ephraim. |
και εξελεξατο την φυλην ιουδα το ορος το σιων ο ηγαπησεν | 68 But he chose the tribe of Judah: mount Zion, which he loved. |
και ωκοδομησεν ως μονοκερωτων το αγιασμα αυτου εν τη γη εθεμελιωσεν αυτην εις τον αιωνα | 69 And he built up his sanctuary, like a single-horned beast, in the land that he founded for all ages. |
και εξελεξατο δαυιδ τον δουλον αυτου και ανελαβεν αυτον εκ των ποιμνιων των προβατων | 70 And he chose his servant David, and he took him from the flocks of the sheep: he received him from following the ewes with their young, |
εξοπισθεν των λοχευομενων ελαβεν αυτον ποιμαινειν ιακωβ τον λαον αυτου και ισραηλ την κληρονομιαν αυτου | 71 in order to pasture Jacob his servant and Israel his inheritance. |
και εποιμανεν αυτους εν τη ακακια της καρδιας αυτου και εν ταις συνεσεσι των χειρων αυτου ωδηγησεν αυτους | 72 And he fed them with the innocence of his heart. And he led them with the understanding of his hands. |
