ησυχασαν δε και οι τρεις φιλοι αυτου ετι αντειπειν ιωβ ην γαρ ιωβ δικαιος εναντιον αυτων | 1 These three men stopped arguing with Job, because he was convinced of his uprightness. |
ωργισθη δε ελιους ο του βαραχιηλ ο βουζιτης εκ της συγγενειας ραμ της αυσιτιδος χωρας ωργισθη δε τω ιωβ σφοδρα διοτι απεφηνεν εαυτον δικαιον εναντιον κυριου | 2 But Elihu son of Barachel the Buzite, of the clan of Ram, became very angry. He fumed with rageagainst Job for thinking that he was right and God was wrong; |
και κατα των τριων δε φιλων ωργισθη σφοδρα διοτι ουκ ηδυνηθησαν αποκριθηναι αντιθετα ιωβ και εθεντο αυτον ειναι ασεβη | 3 and he was equal y angry with the three friends for giving up the argument and thus putting God in thewrong. |
ελιους δε υπεμεινεν δουναι αποκρισιν ιωβ οτι πρεσβυτεροι αυτου εισιν ημεραις | 4 While they and Job were talking, Elihu had waited, because they were older than he was; |
και ειδεν ελιους οτι ουκ εστιν αποκρισις εν στοματι των τριων ανδρων και εθυμωθη οργη αυτου | 5 but when he saw that the three men had not another word to say in answer, his anger burst out. |
υπολαβων δε ελιους ο του βαραχιηλ ο βουζιτης ειπεν νεωτερος μεν ειμι τω χρονω υμεις δε εστε πρεσβυτεροι διο ησυχασα φοβηθεις του υμιν αναγγειλαι την εμαυτου επιστημην | 6 And Elihu son of Barachel the Buzite began to speak. He said: I am stil young, and you are old, so Iwas shy and hesitant to tel you what I know. |
ειπα δε οτι ο χρονος εστιν ο λαλων εν πολλοις δε ετεσιν οιδασιν σοφιαν | 7 I thought, 'Age ought to speak, advancing years wil convey wisdom.' |
αλλα πνευμα εστιν εν βροτοις πνοη δε παντοκρατορος εστιν η διδασκουσα | 8 There is, you see, a spirit residing in humanity, the breath of God conferring intelligence. |
ουχ οι πολυχρονιοι εισιν σοφοι ουδ' οι γεροντες οιδασιν κριμα | 9 Great age does not give wisdom, nor seniority fair judgement. |
διο ειπα ακουσατε μου και αναγγελω υμιν α οιδα | 10 And so I ask you for a hearing; now it is my turn to tel what I know. |
ενωτιζεσθε μου τα ρηματα ερω γαρ υμων ακουοντων αχρι ου ετασητε λογους | 11 Up to now, I was hanging on your words, I paid attention to your arguments as each of you chose hiswords. |
και μεχρι υμων συνησω και ιδου ουκ ην τω ιωβ ελεγχων ανταποκρινομενος ρηματα αυτου εξ υμων | 12 I paid very close attention; and I see that none of you has confounded Job, not one of you has refutedwhat he says. |
ινα μη ειπητε ευρομεν σοφιαν κυριω προσθεμενοι | 13 So do not say, 'We have found wisdom; our teaching is divine and not human.' |
ανθρωπω δε επετρεψατε λαλησαι τοιαυτα ρηματα | 14 I am not going to follow the same line of argument; my reply to Job wil be couched in different terms. |
επτοηθησαν ουκ απεκριθησαν ετι επαλαιωσαν εξ αυτων λογους | 15 They are nonplussed for an answer, words have failed them. |
υπεμεινα ου γαρ ελαλησαν οτι εστησαν ουκ απεκριθησαν | 16 I have been waiting. Since they do not speak, since they have given up the argument, |
υπολαβων δε ελιους λεγει | 17 now I shal have my say, my turn has come to say what I know. |
παλιν λαλησω πληρης γαρ ειμι ρηματων ολεκει γαρ με το πνευμα της γαστρος | 18 For I am ful of words and forced to speak by a spirit within me; |
η δε γαστηρ μου ωσπερ ασκος γλευκους ζεων δεδεμενος η ωσπερ φυσητηρ χαλκεως ερρηγως | 19 within me, it feels like new wine seeking a vent, bursting out of new wine-skins. |
λαλησω ινα αναπαυσωμαι ανοιξας τα χειλη | 20 To gain relief, I must speak, I must open my lips and reply. |
ανθρωπον γαρ ου μη αισχυνθω αλλα μην ουδε βροτον ου μη εντραπω | 21 I shall not take anyone's side, I shall not flatter anyone. |
ου γαρ επισταμαι θαυμασαι προσωπον ει δε μη και εμε σητες εδονται | 22 I do not know how to flatter -- or my Creator would make short work of me. |
