LXXNEW AMERICAN BIBLE
υπολαβων δε βαλδαδ ο σαυχιτης λεγει1 Then Bildad the Shuhite replied and said:
μεχρι τινος ου παυση επισχες ινα και αυτοι λαλησωμεν2 When will you put an end to words? Reflect, and then we can have discussion.
δια τι ωσπερ τετραποδα σεσιωπηκαμεν εναντιον σου3 Why are we accounted like the beasts, their equals in your sight?
κεχρηται σοι οργη τι γαρ εαν συ αποθανης αοικητος η υπ' ουρανον η καταστραφησεται ορη εκ θεμελιων4 You who tear yourself in your anger, shall the earth be neglected on your account (or the rock be moved out of its place)?
και φως ασεβων σβεσθησεται και ουκ αποβησεται αυτων η φλοξ5 Truly, the light of the wicked is extinguished; no flame brightens his hearth.
το φως αυτου σκοτος εν διαιτη ο δε λυχνος επ' αυτω σβεσθησεται6 The light is darkened in his tent; in spite of him, his lamp goes out.
θηρευσαισαν ελαχιστοι τα υπαρχοντα αυτου σφαλαι δε αυτου η βουλη7 His vigorous steps are hemmed in, and his own counsel casts him down.
εμβεβληται δε ο πους αυτου εν παγιδι εν δικτυω ελιχθειη8 For he rushes headlong into a net, and he wanders into a pitfall.
ελθοισαν δε επ' αυτον παγιδες κατισχυσει επ' αυτον διψωντας9 A trap seizes him by the heel, and a snare lays hold of him.
κεκρυπται εν τη γη σχοινιον αυτου και η συλλημψις αυτου επι τριβων10 A noose for him is hid on the ground, and the toils for him on the way.
κυκλω ολεσαισαν αυτον οδυναι πολλοι δε περι ποδας αυτου ελθοισαν εν λιμω στενω11 On every side terrors affright him; they harry him at each step.
πτωμα δε αυτω ητοιμασται εξαισιον12 Disaster is ready at his side,
βρωθειησαν αυτου κλωνες ποδων κατεδεται δε τα ωραια αυτου θανατος13 the first-born of death consumes his limbs.
εκραγειη δε εκ διαιτης αυτου ιασις σχοιη δε αυτον αναγκη αιτια βασιλικη14 Fiery destruction lodges in his tent, and marches him off to the king of terrors. He is plucked from the security of his tent;
κατασκηνωσει εν τη σκηνη αυτου εν νυκτι αυτου κατασπαρησονται τα ευπρεπη αυτου θειω15 over his abode brimstone is scattered.
υποκατωθεν αι ριζαι αυτου ξηρανθησονται και επανωθεν επιπεσειται θερισμος αυτου16 Below, his roots dry up, and above, his branches wither.
το μνημοσυνον αυτου απολοιτο εκ γης και υπαρχει ονομα αυτω επι προσωπον εξωτερω17 His memory perishes from the land, and he has no name on the earth.
απωσειεν αυτον εκ φωτος εις σκοτος18 He is driven from light into darkness, and banished out of the world.
ουκ εσται επιγνωστος εν λαω αυτου ουδε σεσωσμενος εν τη υπ' ουρανον ο οικος αυτου αλλ' εν τοις αυτου ζησονται ετεροι19 He has neither son nor grandson among his people, nor any survior where once he dwelt.
επ' αυτω εστεναξαν εσχατοι πρωτους δε εσχεν θαυμα20 They who come after shall be appalled at his fate; they who went before are struck with horror.
ουτοι εισιν οικοι αδικων ουτος δε ο τοπος των μη ειδοτων τον κυριον21 So is it then with the dwelling of the impious man, and such is the place of him who knows not God!
