υπολαβων δε βαλδαδ ο σαυχιτης λεγει | 1 Then Bildad the Shuhite replied and said: |
μεχρι τινος ου παυση επισχες ινα και αυτοι λαλησωμεν | 2 When will you put an end to words? Reflect, and then we can have discussion. |
δια τι ωσπερ τετραποδα σεσιωπηκαμεν εναντιον σου | 3 Why are we accounted like the beasts, their equals in your sight? |
κεχρηται σοι οργη τι γαρ εαν συ αποθανης αοικητος η υπ' ουρανον η καταστραφησεται ορη εκ θεμελιων | 4 You who tear yourself in your anger, shall the earth be neglected on your account (or the rock be moved out of its place)? |
και φως ασεβων σβεσθησεται και ουκ αποβησεται αυτων η φλοξ | 5 Truly, the light of the wicked is extinguished; no flame brightens his hearth. |
το φως αυτου σκοτος εν διαιτη ο δε λυχνος επ' αυτω σβεσθησεται | 6 The light is darkened in his tent; in spite of him, his lamp goes out. |
θηρευσαισαν ελαχιστοι τα υπαρχοντα αυτου σφαλαι δε αυτου η βουλη | 7 His vigorous steps are hemmed in, and his own counsel casts him down. |
εμβεβληται δε ο πους αυτου εν παγιδι εν δικτυω ελιχθειη | 8 For he rushes headlong into a net, and he wanders into a pitfall. |
ελθοισαν δε επ' αυτον παγιδες κατισχυσει επ' αυτον διψωντας | 9 A trap seizes him by the heel, and a snare lays hold of him. |
κεκρυπται εν τη γη σχοινιον αυτου και η συλλημψις αυτου επι τριβων | 10 A noose for him is hid on the ground, and the toils for him on the way. |
κυκλω ολεσαισαν αυτον οδυναι πολλοι δε περι ποδας αυτου ελθοισαν εν λιμω στενω | 11 On every side terrors affright him; they harry him at each step. |
πτωμα δε αυτω ητοιμασται εξαισιον | 12 Disaster is ready at his side, |
βρωθειησαν αυτου κλωνες ποδων κατεδεται δε τα ωραια αυτου θανατος | 13 the first-born of death consumes his limbs. |
εκραγειη δε εκ διαιτης αυτου ιασις σχοιη δε αυτον αναγκη αιτια βασιλικη | 14 Fiery destruction lodges in his tent, and marches him off to the king of terrors. He is plucked from the security of his tent; |
κατασκηνωσει εν τη σκηνη αυτου εν νυκτι αυτου κατασπαρησονται τα ευπρεπη αυτου θειω | 15 over his abode brimstone is scattered. |
υποκατωθεν αι ριζαι αυτου ξηρανθησονται και επανωθεν επιπεσειται θερισμος αυτου | 16 Below, his roots dry up, and above, his branches wither. |
το μνημοσυνον αυτου απολοιτο εκ γης και υπαρχει ονομα αυτω επι προσωπον εξωτερω | 17 His memory perishes from the land, and he has no name on the earth. |
απωσειεν αυτον εκ φωτος εις σκοτος | 18 He is driven from light into darkness, and banished out of the world. |
ουκ εσται επιγνωστος εν λαω αυτου ουδε σεσωσμενος εν τη υπ' ουρανον ο οικος αυτου αλλ' εν τοις αυτου ζησονται ετεροι | 19 He has neither son nor grandson among his people, nor any survior where once he dwelt. |
επ' αυτω εστεναξαν εσχατοι πρωτους δε εσχεν θαυμα | 20 They who come after shall be appalled at his fate; they who went before are struck with horror. |
ουτοι εισιν οικοι αδικων ουτος δε ο τοπος των μη ειδοτων τον κυριον | 21 So is it then with the dwelling of the impious man, and such is the place of him who knows not God! |
