και ενισχυσεν σαλωμων υιος δαυιδ επι την βασιλειαν αυτου και κυριος ο θεος αυτου μετ' αυτου και εμεγαλυνεν αυτον εις υψος1 Then Solomon, the son of David, was strengthened in his reign, and the Lord his God was with him, and he magnified him on high.
και ειπεν σαλωμων προς παντα ισραηλ τοις χιλιαρχοις και τοις εκατονταρχοις και τοις κριταις και πασιν τοις αρχουσιν εναντιον ισραηλ τοις αρχουσι των πατριων2 And Solomon instructed the whole of Israel, the tribunes, and the centurions, and the rulers, and the judges over all of Israel, and the leaders of the families.
και επορευθη σαλωμων και πασα η εκκλησια μετ' αυτου εις την υψηλην την εν γαβαων ου εκει ην η σκηνη του μαρτυριου του θεου ην εποιησεν μωυσης παις κυριου εν τη ερημω3 And he went away with the entire multitude to the high place of Gibeon, where the tabernacle of the covenant of the Lord was, which Moses, the servant of God, made in the wilderness.
αλλα κιβωτον του θεου ανηνεγκεν δαυιδ εκ πολεως καριαθιαριμ οτι ητοιμασεν αυτη σκηνην εις ιερουσαλημ4 For David had brought the ark of God from Kiriath-jearim, to the place that he had prepared for it, and where he had pitched a tabernacle for it, that is, in Jerusalem.
και το θυσιαστηριον το χαλκουν ο εποιησεν βεσελεηλ υιος ουριου υιου ωρ εκει ην εναντι της σκηνης κυριου και εξεζητησεν αυτο σαλωμων και η εκκλησια5 Also, the altar of brass, which Bezalel, the son of Uri, the son of Hur, had constructed, was there before the tabernacle of the Lord. And so Solomon sought it, with the entire assembly.
και ανηνεγκεν εκει σαλωμων επι το θυσιαστηριον το χαλκουν ενωπιον κυριου το εν τη σκηνη και ανηνεγκεν επ' αυτο ολοκαυτωσιν χιλιαν6 And Solomon ascended to the bronze altar, before the tabernacle of the covenant of the Lord, and he offered upon it one thousand victims.
εν τη νυκτι εκεινη ωφθη ο θεος τω σαλωμων και ειπεν αυτω αιτησαι τι σοι δω7 But behold, during that night God appeared to him, saying, “Request what you wish, so that I may give it to you.”
και ειπεν σαλωμων προς τον θεον συ εποιησας μετα δαυιδ του πατρος μου ελεος μεγα και εβασιλευσας με αντ' αυτου8 And Solomon said to God: “You have shown great mercy to my father David. And you have appointed me as king in his place.
και νυν κυριε ο θεος πιστωθητω το ονομα σου επι δαυιδ πατερα μου οτι συ εβασιλευσας με επι λαον πολυν ως ο χους της γης9 Now therefore, O Lord God, let your word be fulfilled, which you promised to my father David. For you have made me king over your great people, who are as innumerable as the dust of the earth.
νυν σοφιαν και συνεσιν δος μοι και εξελευσομαι ενωπιον του λαου τουτου και εισελευσομαι οτι τις κρινει τον λαον σου τον μεγαν τουτον10 Give to me wisdom and understanding, so that I may enter and depart before your people. For who is able worthily to judge this, your people, who are so great?”
και ειπεν ο θεος προς σαλωμων ανθ' ων εγενετο τουτο εν τη καρδια σου και ουκ ητησω πλουτον χρηματων ουδε δοξαν ουδε την ψυχην των υπεναντιων και ημερας πολλας ουκ ητησω και ητησας σεαυτω σοφιαν και συνεσιν οπως κρινης τον λαον μου εφ' ον εβασιλευσα σε επ' αυτον11 Then God said to Solomon: “Since this is the choice that pleased your heart, and you did not request wealth and substance and glory, nor the lives of those who hate you, nor even many days of life, since instead you requested wisdom and knowledge so that you may be able to judge my people, over whom I have appointed you as king:
την σοφιαν και την συνεσιν διδωμι σοι και πλουτον και χρηματα και δοξαν δωσω σοι ως ουκ εγενηθη ομοιος σοι εν τοις βασιλευσι τοις εμπροσθε σου και μετα σε ουκ εσται ουτως12 wisdom and knowledge are granted to you. And I will give to you wealth and substance and glory, so that none of the kings either before you or after you will be similar to you.”
και ηλθεν σαλωμων εκ βαμα της εν γαβαων εις ιερουσαλημ απο προσωπου σκηνης μαρτυριου και εβασιλευσεν επι ισραηλ13 Then Solomon went from the high place of Gibeon to Jerusalem, before the tabernacle of the covenant, and he reigned over Israel.
και συνηγαγεν σαλωμων αρματα και ιππεις και εγενοντο αυτω χιλια και τετρακοσια αρματα και δωδεκα χιλιαδες ιππεων και κατελιπεν αυτα εν πολεσιν των αρματων και ο λαος μετα του βασιλεως εν ιερουσαλημ14 And he gathered to himself chariots and horsemen. And they brought to him one thousand four hundred chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen. And he caused them to be in the cities of the chariots, and with the king in Jerusalem.
και εθηκεν ο βασιλευς το χρυσιον και το αργυριον εν ιερουσαλημ ως λιθους και τας κεδρους εν τη ιουδαια ως συκαμινους τας εν τη πεδινη εις πληθος15 And the king offered silver and gold in Jerusalem as if they were stones, and cedar trees as if they were sycamores, which grow in the plains in a great multitude.
και η εξοδος των ιππων των σαλωμων εξ αιγυπτου και η τιμη των εμπορων του βασιλεως εμπορευεσθαι ηγοραζον16 Then horses were brought to him from Egypt and from Kue, by the negotiators of the king, who went and bought for a price:
και ανεβαινον και εξηγον εξ αιγυπτου αρμα εν εξακοσιων αργυριου και ιππον εκατον και πεντηκοντα και ουτως πασιν τοις βασιλευσιν των χετταιων και βασιλευσιν συριας εν χερσιν αυτων εφερον17 a four-horse chariot for six hundred pieces of silver, and a horse for one hundred fifty. A similar offer to purchase was made known among all the kingdoms of the Hittites, and among the kings of Syria.
και ειπεν σαλωμων του οικοδομησαι οικον τω ονοματι κυριου και οικον τη βασιλεια αυτου
