1 Dopo Abimèlech, sorse a salvare Israele Tola, figlio di Pua, figlio di Dodo, uomo di Issacar. Dimorava a Samir sulle montagne di Efraim;	1 After Abimelech there rose to save Israel the Issacharite Tola, son of Puah, son of Dodo, a resident of Shamir in the mountain region of Ephraim.
2 fu giudice d'Israele per ventitré anni, poi morì e fu sepolto a Samir.	2 When he had judged Israel twenty-three years, he died and was buried in Shamir.
3 Dopo di lui sorse Iair, il Galaadita, che fu giudice d'Israele per ventidue anni;	3 Jair the Gileadite came after him and judged Israel twenty-two years.
4 ebbe trenta figli che cavalcavano trenta asinelli e avevano trenta città, che si chiamano anche oggi i Villaggi di Iair e sono nel paese di Gàlaad.	4 He had thirty sons who rode on thirty saddle-asses and possessed thirty cities in the land of Gilead; these are called Havvoth-jair to the present day.
5 Poi Iair morì e fu sepolto a Kamon.	5 Jair died and was buried in Kamon.
6 Gli Israeliti continuarono a fare ciò che è male agli occhi del Signore e servirono i Baal, le Astarti, gli dèi di Aram, gli dèi di Sidòne, gli dèi di Moab, gli dèi degli Ammoniti e gli dèi dei Filistei; abbandonarono il Signore e non lo servirono più.	6 The Israelites again offended the LORD, serving the Baals and Ashtaroths, the gods of Aram, the gods of Sidon, the gods of Moab, the gods of the Ammonites, and the gods of the Philistines. Since they had abandoned the LORD and would not serve him,
7 L'ira del Signore si accese contro Israele e li mise nelle mani dei Filistei e nelle mani degli Ammoniti.	7 the LORD became angry with Israel and allowed them to fall into the power of (the Philistines and) the Ammonites.
8 Questi afflissero e oppressero per diciotto anni gli Israeliti, tutti i figli d'Israele che erano oltre il Giordano, nel paese degli Amorrei in Gàlaad.	8 For eighteen years they afflicted and oppressed the Israelites in Bashan, and all the Israelites in the Amorite land beyond the Jordan in Gilead.
9 Poi gli Ammoniti passarono il Giordano per combattere anche contro Giuda, contro Beniamino e contro la casa d'Efraim e Israele fu in grande angoscia.	9 The Ammonites also crossed the Jordan to fight against Judah, Benjamin, and the house of Ephraim, so that Israel was in great distress.
10 Allora gli Israeliti gridarono al Signore: "Abbiamo peccato contro di te, perché abbiamo abbandonato il nostro Dio e abbiamo servito i Baal".	10 Then the Israelites cried out to the LORD, "We have sinned against you; we have forsaken our God and have served the Baals."
11 Il Signore disse agli Israeliti: "Non vi ho io liberati dagli Egiziani, dagli Amorrei, dagli Ammoniti e dai Filistei?	11 The LORD answered the Israelites: "Did not the Egyptians, the Amorites, the Ammonites, the Philistines,
12 Quando quelli di Sidòne, gli Amaleciti e i Madianiti vi opprimevano e voi gridavate a me, non vi ho forse liberati dalle loro mani?	12 the Sidonians, the Amalekites, and the Midianites oppress you? Yet when you cried out to me, and I saved you from their grasp,
13 Eppure, mi avete abbandonato e avete servito altri dèi; perciò io non vi salverò più.	13 you still forsook me and worshiped other gods. Therefore I will save you no more.
14 Andate a gridare agli dèi che avete scelto; vi salvino essi nel tempo della vostra angoscia!".	14 Go and cry out to the gods you have chosen; let them save you now that you are in distress."
15 Gli Israeliti dissero al Signore: "Abbiamo peccato; fa' di noi ciò che ti piace; soltanto, liberaci in questo giorno".	15 But the Israelites said to the LORD, "We have sinned. Do to us whatever you please. Only save us this day."
16 Eliminarono gli dèi stranieri e servirono il Signore, il quale non tollerò più a lungo la tribolazione di Israele.	16 And they cast out the foreign gods from their midst and served the LORD, so that he grieved over the misery of Israel.
17 Gli Ammoniti si radunarono e si accamparono in Gàlaad e anche gli Israeliti si adunarono e si accamparono a Mizpa.	17 The Ammonites had gathered for war and encamped in Gilead, while the Israelites assembled and encamped in Mizpah.
18 Il popolo, i principi di Gàlaad, si dissero l'un l'altro: "Chi sarà l'uomo che comincerà a combattere contro gli Ammoniti? Egli sarà il capo di tutti gli abitanti di Gàlaad".	18 And among the people the princes of Gilead said to one another, "The one who begins the war against the Ammonites shall be leader of all the inhabitants of Gilead."
