1 Ascoltate dunque ciò che dice il Signore: «Su, illustra la tua causa ai monti e i colli ascoltino la tua voce!».	1 Hear, then, what the LORD says: Arise, present your plea before the mountains, and let the hills hear your voice!
2 Ascoltate, o monti, il processo del Signore, o perenni fondamenta della terra, perché il Signore è in causa con il suo popolo, accusa Israele.	2 Hear, O mountains, the plea of the LORD, pay attention, O foundations of the earth! For the LORD has a plea against his people, and he enters into trial with Israel.
3 «Popolo mio, che cosa ti ho fatto? In che cosa ti ho stancato? Rispondimi.	3 O my people, what have I done to you, or how have I wearied you? Answer me!
4 Forse perché ti ho fatto uscire dalla terra d’Egitto, ti ho riscattato dalla condizione servile e ho mandato davanti a te Mosè, Aronne e Maria?	4 For I brought you up from the land of Egypt, from the place of slavery I released you; And I sent before you Moses, Aaron, and Miriam.
5 Popolo mio, ricorda le trame di Balak, re di Moab, e quello che gli rispose Balaam, figlio di Beor. Ricòrdati di quello che è avvenuto da Sittìm a Gàlgala, per riconoscere le vittorie del Signore».	5 My people, remember what Moab's King Balak planned, and how Balaam, the son of Beor, answered him . . . from Shittim to Gilgal, that you may know the just deeds of the LORD.
6 «Con che cosa mi presenterò al Signore, mi prostrerò al Dio altissimo? Mi presenterò a lui con olocausti, con vitelli di un anno?	6 With what shall I come before the LORD, and bow before God most high? Shall I come before him with holocausts, with calves a year old?
7 Gradirà il Signore migliaia di montoni e torrenti di olio a miriadi? Gli offrirò forse il mio primogenito per la mia colpa, il frutto delle mie viscere per il mio peccato?».	7 Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams, with myriad streams of oil? Shall I give my first-born for my crime, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?
8 Uomo, ti è stato insegnato ciò che è buono e ciò che richiede il Signore da te: praticare la giustizia, amare la bontà, camminare umilmente con il tuo Dio.	8 You have been told, O man, what is good, and what the LORD requires of you: Only to do right and to love goodness, and to walk humbly with your God.
9 La voce del Signore grida alla città e chi ha senno teme il suo nome: «Ascoltate, tribù e assemblea	9 Hark! the LORD cries to the city. (It is wisdom to fear your name!) Hear, O tribe and city council,
10 della città. Ci sono ancora nella casa dell’empio i tesori ingiustamente acquistati e una detestabile efa ridotta?	10 Am I to bear any longer criminal hoarding and the meager ephah that is accursed?
11 Potrò io giustificare le bilance truccate e il sacchetto di pesi falsi?	11 Shall I acquit criminal balances, bags of false weights?
12 I ricchi della città sono pieni di violenza e i suoi abitanti proferiscono menzogna; le loro parole sono un inganno!	12 You whose rich men are full of violence, whose inhabitants speak falsehood with deceitful tongues in their heads!
13 Allora anch’io ho cominciato a colpirti, a devastarti per i tuoi peccati.	13 Rather I will begin to strike you with devastation because of your sins.
14 Mangerai, ma non ti sazierai, e la tua fame rimarrà in te; metterai da parte, ma nulla salverai; e se qualcosa salverai, io lo consegnerò alla spada.	14 You shall eat, without being satisfied, food that will leave you empty; What you acquire, you cannot save; what you do save, I will deliver up to the sword.
15 Seminerai, ma non mieterai; frangerai le olive, ma non ti ungerai d’olio; produrrai mosto, ma non berrai il vino.	15 You shall sow, yet not reap, tread out the olive, yet pour no oil, and the grapes, yet drink no wine.
16 Tu osservi gli statuti di Omri e tutte le pratiche della casa di Acab, e segui i loro progetti, perciò io farò di te una desolazione, i tuoi abitanti oggetto di scherno e subirai l’obbrobrio del mio popolo».	16 You have kept the decrees of Omri, and all the works of the house of Ahab, and you have walked in their counsels; Therefore I will deliver you up to ruin, and your citizens to derision; and you shall bear the reproach of the nations.
