BIBBIA CEI 2008	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Essa è il libro dei decreti di Dio e la legge che sussiste in eterno; tutti coloro che si attengono ad essa avranno la vita, quanti l’abbandonano moriranno.	1 She is the book of God's commandments, the Law that stands for ever; those who keep her shal live,those who desert her shal die.
2 Ritorna, Giacobbe, e accoglila, cammina allo splendore della sua luce.	2 Turn back, Jacob, seize her, in her radiance make your way to light:
3 Non dare a un altro la tua gloria né i tuoi privilegi a una nazione straniera.	3 do not yield your glory to another, your privilege to a people not your own.
4 Beati siamo noi, o Israele, perché ciò che piace a Dio è da noi conosciuto.	4 Israel, blessed are we: what pleases God has been revealed to us!
5 Coraggio, popolo mio, tu, memoria d’Israele!	5 Take courage, my people, memorial of Israel!
6 Siete stati venduti alle nazioni non per essere annientati, ma perché avete fatto adirare Dio siete stati consegnati ai nemici.	6 You were sold to the nations, but not for extermination. You provoked God; and so were delivered toyour enemies,
7 Avete irritato il vostro creatore, sacrificando a dèmoni e non a Dio.	7 since you had angered your Creator by offering sacrifices to demons, and not to God.
8 Avete dimenticato chi vi ha allevati, il Dio eterno, avete afflitto anche colei che vi ha nutriti, Gerusalemme.	8 You had forgotten the eternal God who reared you. You had also grieved Jerusalem who nursed you,
9 Essa ha visto piombare su di voi l’ira divina e ha esclamato: «Ascoltate, città vicine di Sion, Dio mi ha mandato un grande dolore.	9 for when she saw God's anger fal ing on you, she said: Listen, you neighbours of Zion: God has sent megreat sorrow.
10 Ho visto, infatti, la schiavitù in cui l’Eterno ha condotto i miei figli e le mie figlie.	10 I have seen my sons and daughters taken into captivity, which the Eternal brought down on them.
11 Io li avevo nutriti con gioia e li ho lasciati andare con pianto e dolore.	11 I had reared them joyful y; in tears, in sorrow, I watched them go away.
12 Nessuno goda di me nel vedermi vedova e abbandonata da molti; sono stata lasciata sola per i peccati dei miei figli, perché hanno deviato dalla legge di Dio,	12 Do not, any of you, exult over me, a widow, deserted by so many; I am bereaved because of the sinsof my children, who turned away from the Law of God,
13 non hanno riconosciuto i suoi decreti, non hanno seguito i suoi comandamenti, non hanno proceduto per i sentieri della dottrina, secondo la sua giustizia.	13 who did not want to know his precepts and would not fol ow the ways of his commandments or treadthe paths of discipline as his justice directed.
14 Venite, o città vicine di Sion, ricordatevi la schiavitù in cui l’Eterno ha condotto i miei figli e le mie figlie.	14 Come here, neighbours of Zion! Remember my sons' and daughters' captivity, which the Eternalbrought down on them.
15 Ha mandato contro di loro una nazione da lontano, una nazione malvagia di lingua straniera, che non ha avuto rispetto dei vecchi né pietà dei bambini.	15 How he brought a distant nation down on them, a ruthless nation speaking a foreign language, theyshowed neither respect for the aged, nor pity for the child;
16 Hanno strappato via i prediletti della vedova e l’hanno lasciata sola, senza figlie».	16 they carried off the widow's cherished sons, they left her quite alone, bereft of her daughters.
17 E io come posso aiutarvi?	17 For my part, how could I help you?
18 Chi vi ha afflitto con tanti mali saprà liberarvi dalle mani dei vostri nemici.	18 He who brought those disasters down on you, is the one to deliver you from your enemies' clutches.
19 Andate, figli miei, andate, io sono rimasta sola.	19 Go, my children, go your way! I must stay bereft and lonely;
20 Ho deposto l’abito di pace, ho indossato la veste di sacco per la supplica, griderò all’Eterno per tutti i miei giorni.	20 I have taken off the clothes of peace and put on the sackcloth of entreaty; al my life I shal cry to theEternal.
21 Coraggio, figli miei, gridate a Dio, ed egli vi libererà dall’oppressione e dalle mani dei nemici.	21 Take courage, my children, cal on God: he wil deliver you from tyranny, from the clutches of yourenemies;
22 Io, infatti, ho sperato dall’Eterno la vostra salvezza e una grande gioia mi è venuta dal Santo, per la misericordia che presto vi giungerà dall’Eterno, vostro salvatore.	22 for I look to the Eternal for your rescue, and joy has come to me from the Holy One at the mercy soonto reach you from your Saviour, the Eternal.
23 Vi ho lasciati andare con dolore e pianto, ma Dio vi ricondurrà a me con letizia e gioia, per sempre.	23 In sorrow and tears I watched you go away, but God wil give you back to me in joy and gladness forever.
24 Come ora le città vicine di Sion vedono la vostra schiavitù, così ben presto vedranno la salvezza che vi giungerà dal vostro Dio; essa verrà a voi con grande gloria e splendore dell’Eterno.	24 As the neighbours of Zion have now witnessed your captivity, so wil they soon see your rescue byGod, which wil come upon you with great glory and splendour of the Eternal.
25 Figli, sopportate con pazienza la collera che da Dio è venuta su di voi. Il tuo nemico ti ha perseguitato, ma vedrai ben presto la sua rovina e gli calpesterai la nuca.	25 My children, patiently bear the anger brought on you by God. Your enemy has persecuted you, butsoon you wil witness his destruction and set your foot on his neck.
26 I miei teneri figli hanno camminato per aspri sentieri, sono stati portati via come gregge rapito dal nemico.	26 My favourite children have travel ed by rough roads, carried off like a flock by a marauding enemy.
27 Coraggio, figli, gridate a Dio, poiché si ricorderà di voi colui che vi ha afflitti.	27 Take courage, my children, cal on God: he who brought this on you wil remember you.
28 Però, come pensaste di allontanarvi da Dio, così, ritornando, decuplicate lo zelo per ricercarlo;	28 As by your wil you first strayed from God, so now turn back and search for him ten times harder;
29 perché chi vi ha afflitto con tanti mali vi darà anche, con la vostra salvezza, una gioia perenne.	29 for as he has been bringing down those disasters on you, so wil he rescue you and give you eternaljoy.
30 Coraggio, Gerusalemme! Colui che ti ha dato un nome ti consolerà.	30 Take courage, Jerusalem: he who gave you your name wil console you.
31 Sventurati coloro che ti hanno fatto del male, che hanno goduto della tua caduta;	31 Disaster wil come to al who have il -treated you and gloated over your fal .
32 sventurate le città in cui sono stati schiavi i tuoi figli, sventurata colei che li ha trattenuti.	32 Disaster wil come to the cities where your children were slaves; disaster to whichever one receivedyour children,
33 Come ha gioito per la tua caduta e si è allietata per la tua rovina, così si affliggerà per la sua solitudine.	33 for just as she rejoiced at your fal and was happy to see you ruined, so wil she grieve over her owndesolation.
34 Le toglierò l’esultanza di essere così popolata, la sua insolenza sarà cambiata in dolore.	34 I shall deprive her of the joy of a populous city, and her insolence wil turn to mourning;
35 Un fuoco cadrà su di essa per lunghi giorni per volere dell’Eterno, e per molto tempo sarà abitata da dèmoni.	35 fire from the Eternal wil befall her for many a day, and demons wil dwel in her for ages.
36 Guarda a oriente, Gerusalemme, osserva la gioia che ti viene da Dio.	36 Jerusalem, turn your eyes to the east, see the joy that is coming to you from God.
37 Ecco, ritornano i figli che hai visto partire, ritornano insieme riuniti, dal sorgere del sole al suo tramonto, alla parola del Santo, esultanti per la gloria di Dio.	37 Look, the children you watched go away are on their way home; reassembled from east and west, theyare on their way home at the Holy One's command, rejoicing in God's glory.
