1 Il Signore disse a Mosè:	1 Yahweh spoke to Moses and said,
2 «Comanda agli Israeliti che tornino indietro e si accampino davanti a Pi-Achiròt, tra Migdol e il mare, davanti a Baal-Sefòn; di fronte a quel luogo vi accamperete presso il mare.	2 'Tel the Israelites to turn back and pitch camp in front of Pi-Hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea,facing Baal-Zephon. You must pitch your camp opposite this place, beside the sea,
3 Il faraone penserà degli Israeliti: “Vanno errando nella regione; il deserto li ha bloccati!”.	3 and then Pharaoh wil think, "The Israelites are wandering to and fro in the countryside; the desert hasclosed in on them."
4 Io renderò ostinato il cuore del faraone, ed egli li inseguirà; io dimostrerò la mia gloria contro il faraone e tutto il suo esercito, così gli Egiziani sapranno che io sono il Signore!». Ed essi fecero così.	4 I shal then make Pharaoh stubborn and he wil set out in pursuit of them; and I shall win glory formyself at the expense of Pharaoh and his whole army, and then the Egyptians wil know that I am Yahweh.' Andthe Israelites did this.
5 Quando fu riferito al re d’Egitto che il popolo era fuggito, il cuore del faraone e dei suoi ministri si rivolse contro il popolo. Dissero: «Che cosa abbiamo fatto, lasciando che Israele si sottraesse al nostro servizio?».	5 When Pharaoh king of Egypt was told that the people had fled, he and his officials changed theirattitude towards the people. 'What have we done,' they said, 'allowing Israel to leave our service?'
6 Attaccò allora il cocchio e prese con sé i suoi soldati.	6 So Pharaoh had his chariot harnessed and set out with his troops,
7 Prese seicento carri scelti e tutti i carri d’Egitto con i combattenti sopra ciascuno di essi.	7 taking six hundred of the best chariots and al the other chariots in Egypt, with officers in each.
8 Il Signore rese ostinato il cuore del faraone, re d’Egitto, il quale inseguì gli Israeliti mentre gli Israeliti uscivano a mano alzata.	8 Yahweh made Pharaoh king of Egypt stubborn, and he gave chase to the Israelites. The Israelitesmarched confidently away,
9 Gli Egiziani li inseguirono e li raggiunsero, mentre essi stavano accampati presso il mare; tutti i cavalli e i carri del faraone, i suoi cavalieri e il suo esercito erano presso Pi-Achiròt, davanti a Baal-Sefòn.	9 but the Egyptians, al Pharaoh's horses, his chariots, his horsemen and his army, gave chase andcaught up with them where they lay encamped beside the sea near Pi-Hahiroth, facing Baal-Zephon.
10 Quando il faraone fu vicino, gli Israeliti alzarono gli occhi: ecco, gli Egiziani marciavano dietro di loro! Allora gli Israeliti ebbero grande paura e gridarono al Signore.	10 As Pharaoh approached, the Israelites looked up -- and there were the Egyptians in pursuit of them!The Israelites were terrified and cried out to Yahweh for help.
11 E dissero a Mosè: «È forse perché non c’erano sepolcri in Egitto che ci hai portati a morire nel deserto? Che cosa ci hai fatto, portandoci fuori dall’Egitto?	11 To Moses they said, 'Was it for lack of graves in Egypt, that you had to lead us out to die in thedesert? What was the point of bringing us out of Egypt?
12 Non ti dicevamo in Egitto: “Lasciaci stare e serviremo gli Egiziani, perché è meglio per noi servire l’Egitto che morire nel deserto”?».	12 Did we not tell you as much in Egypt? Leave us alone, we said, we would rather work for theEgyptians! We prefer to work for the Egyptians than to die in the desert!'
13 Mosè rispose: «Non abbiate paura! Siate forti e vedrete la salvezza del Signore, il quale oggi agirà per voi; perché gli Egiziani che voi oggi vedete, non li rivedrete mai più!	13 Moses said to the people, 'Do not be afraid! Stand firm, and you wil see what Yahweh wil do torescue you today: the Egyptians you see today you wil never see again.
14 Il Signore combatterà per voi, e voi starete tranquilli».	14 Yahweh will do the fighting for you; al you need to do is to keep calm.'
15 Il Signore disse a Mosè: «Perché gridi verso di me? Ordina agli Israeliti di riprendere il cammino.	15 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Why cry out to me? Tel the Israelites to march on.
16 Tu intanto alza il bastone, stendi la mano sul mare e dividilo, perché gli Israeliti entrino nel mare all’asciutto.	16 Your part is to raise your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it, so that theIsraelites can walk through the sea on dry ground,
17 Ecco, io rendo ostinato il cuore degli Egiziani, così che entrino dietro di loro e io dimostri la mia gloria sul faraone e tutto il suo esercito, sui suoi carri e sui suoi cavalieri.	17 while I, for my part, shal make the Egyptians so stubborn that they wil follow them, and I shall winglory for myself at the expense of Pharaoh and al his army, chariots and horsemen.
18 Gli Egiziani sapranno che io sono il Signore, quando dimostrerò la mia gloria contro il faraone, i suoi carri e i suoi cavalieri».	18 And when I have won glory for myself at the expense of Pharaoh and his chariots and horsemen, theEgyptians wil know that I am Yahweh.'
19 L’angelo di Dio, che precedeva l’accampamento d’Israele, cambiò posto e passò indietro. Anche la colonna di nube si mosse e dal davanti passò dietro.	19 Then the angel of God, who preceded the army of Israel, changed station and fol owed behind them.The pil ar of cloud moved from their front and took position behind them.
20 Andò a porsi tra l’accampamento degli Egiziani e quello d’Israele. La nube era tenebrosa per gli uni, mentre per gli altri illuminava la notte; così gli uni non poterono avvicinarsi agli altri durante tutta la notte.	20 It came between the army of the Egyptians and the army of Israel. The cloud was dark, and the nightpassed without the one drawing any closer to the other the whole night long.
21 Allora Mosè stese la mano sul mare. E il Signore durante tutta la notte risospinse il mare con un forte vento d’oriente, rendendolo asciutto; le acque si divisero.	21 Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and Yahweh drove the sea back with a strongeasterly wind al night and made the sea into dry land. The waters were divided
22 Gli Israeliti entrarono nel mare sull’asciutto, mentre le acque erano per loro un muro a destra e a sinistra.	22 and the Israelites went on dry ground right through the sea, with wal s of water to right and left ofthem.
23 Gli Egiziani li inseguirono, e tutti i cavalli del faraone, i suoi carri e i suoi cavalieri entrarono dietro di loro in mezzo al mare.	23 The Egyptians gave chase, and all Pharaoh's horses, chariots and horsemen went into the sea afterthem.
24 Ma alla veglia del mattino il Signore, dalla colonna di fuoco e di nube, gettò uno sguardo sul campo degli Egiziani e lo mise in rotta.	24 In the morning watch, Yahweh looked down on the army of the Egyptians from the pil ar of fire andcloud and threw the Egyptian army into confusion.
25 Frenò le ruote dei loro carri, così che a stento riuscivano a spingerle. Allora gli Egiziani dissero: «Fuggiamo di fronte a Israele, perché il Signore combatte per loro contro gli Egiziani!».	25 He so clogged their chariot wheels that they drove on only with difficulty, which made the Egyptianssay, 'Let us flee from Israel, for Yahweh is fighting on their side against the Egyptians!'
26 Il Signore disse a Mosè: «Stendi la mano sul mare: le acque si riversino sugli Egiziani, sui loro carri e i loro cavalieri».	26 Then Yahweh said to Moses, 'Stretch out your hand over the sea and let the waters flow back on theEgyptians and on their chariots and their horsemen.'
27 Mosè stese la mano sul mare e il mare, sul far del mattino, tornò al suo livello consueto, mentre gli Egiziani, fuggendo, gli si dirigevano contro. Il Signore li travolse così in mezzo al mare.	27 Moses stretched out his hand over the sea and, as day broke, the sea returned to its bed. The fleeingEgyptians ran straight into it, and Yahweh overthrew the Egyptians in the middle of the sea.
28 Le acque ritornarono e sommersero i carri e i cavalieri di tutto l’esercito del faraone, che erano entrati nel mare dietro a Israele: non ne scampò neppure uno.	28 The returning waters washed right over the chariots and horsemen of Pharaoh's entire army, whichhad fol owed the Israelites into the sea; not a single one of them was left.
29 Invece gli Israeliti avevano camminato sull’asciutto in mezzo al mare, mentre le acque erano per loro un muro a destra e a sinistra.	29 The Israelites, however, had marched through the sea on dry ground, with wal s of water to right andleft of them.
30 In quel giorno il Signore salvò Israele dalla mano degli Egiziani, e Israele vide gli Egiziani morti sulla riva del mare;	30 That day, Yahweh rescued Israel from the clutches of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptianslying dead on the sea-shore.
31 Israele vide la mano potente con la quale il Signore aveva agito contro l’Egitto, e il popolo temette il Signore e credette in lui e in Mosè suo servo.	31 When Israel saw the mighty deed that Yahweh had performed against the Egyptians, the peoplerevered Yahweh and put their faith in Yahweh and in Moses, his servant.
