Neemia 1

BIBBIA CEI 2008	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Parole di Neemia, figlio di Acalia. Nel mese di Chisleu dell’anno ventesimo, mentre ero nella cittadella di Susa,	1 The words of Nehemiah son of Hacaliah. It happened in the month of Chislev, in the twentieth year,while I was in the citadel of Susa,
2 Anàni, uno dei miei fratelli, e alcuni altri uomini arrivarono dalla Giudea. Li interrogai riguardo ai Giudei, i superstiti che erano scampati alla deportazione, e riguardo a Gerusalemme.	2 that Hanani, one of my brothers, arrived with some men from Judah. I asked them about the Jews --those who had escaped and those who survived from the captivity -- and about Jerusalem.
3 Essi mi dissero: «I superstiti che sono scampati alla deportazione sono là, nella provincia, in grande miseria e desolazione; le mura di Gerusalemme sono devastate e le sue porte consumate dal fuoco».	3 They replied, 'The survivors remaining there in the province since the captivity are in a very bad anddemoralised condition: the wal s of Jerusalem are in ruins and its gates have been burnt down.'
4 Udite queste parole, mi sedetti e piansi; feci lutto per parecchi giorni, digiunando e pregando davanti al Dio del cielo.	4 On hearing this I sat down and wept; for some days I mourned, fasting and praying before the God ofheaven.
5 E dissi: «O Signore, Dio del cielo, Dio grande e tremendo, che mantieni l’alleanza e la fedeltà con quelli che ti amano e osservano i tuoi comandi,	5 I said, 'Yahweh, God of heaven -- the great and awe-inspiring God who keeps a covenant of faithfullove with those who love him and obey his commandments-
6 sia il tuo orecchio attento, i tuoi occhi aperti per ascoltare la preghiera del tuo servo; io prego ora davanti a te giorno e notte per gli Israeliti, tuoi servi, confessando i peccati che noi Israeliti abbiamo commesso contro di te; anch’io e la casa di mio padre abbiamo peccato.	6 let your ear be attentive and your eyes open, to listen to your servant's prayer, which I now offer to youday and night on behalf of your servants the Israelites. I admit the sins of the Israelites, which we havecommitted against you. Both I and my father's House have sinned;
7 Abbiamo gravemente peccato contro di te e non abbiamo osservato i comandi, le leggi e le norme che tu hai dato a Mosè, tuo servo.	7 we have acted very wickedly towards you by not keeping the commandments, laws and rulings whichyou enjoined on your servant Moses.
8 Ricòrdati della parola che hai affidato a Mosè, tuo servo: “Se sarete infedeli, io vi disperderò fra i popoli;	8 Remember, I beg you, the promise which you solemnly made to your servant Moses, "If you areunfaithful, I shal scatter you among the peoples;
9 ma se tornerete a me e osserverete i miei comandi e li eseguirete, anche se i vostri esiliati si trovassero all’estremità dell’orizzonte, io di là li raccoglierò e li ricondurrò al luogo che ho scelto per farvi dimorare il mio nome”.	9 but if you come back to me and keep my commandments and practise them, even though those whohave been banished are at the very sky's end, I shal gather them from there and bring them back to the placewhich I have chosen as a dwel ing-place for my name."
10 Ora questi sono tuoi servi e tuo popolo, che hai redento con la tua grande forza e con la tua mano potente.	10 Since they are your servants, your people, whom you have redeemed with your mighty power andstrong hand,
11 O Signore, sia il tuo orecchio attento alla preghiera del tuo servo e alla preghiera dei tuoi servi, che desiderano temere il tuo nome; concedi oggi buon successo al tuo servo e fa' che trovi compassione presso quest’uomo». Io allora ero coppiere del re.	11 O Lord, let your ear now be attentive to your servant's prayer and to the prayer of your servants whowant to revere your name. I beg you let your servant be successful today and win this man's compassion.' At thetime I was cupbearer to the king.
