1 Gesù riprese a parlar loro in parabole e disse:	1 And again Jesus spoke to them in parables, saying,
2 "Il regno dei cieli è simile a un re che fece un banchetto di nozze per suo figlio.	2 "The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who gave a marriage feast for his son,
3 Egli mandò i suoi servi a chiamare gli invitati alle nozze, ma questi non vollero venire.	3 and sent his servants to call those who were invited to the marriage feast; but they would not come.
4 Di nuovo mandò altri servi a dire: Ecco ho preparato il mio pranzo; i miei buoi e i miei animali ingrassati sono già macellati e tutto è pronto; venite alle nozze.	4 Again he sent other servants, saying, 'Tell those who are invited, Behold, I have made ready my dinner, my oxen and my fat calves are killed, and everything is ready; come to the marriage feast.'
5 Ma costoro non se ne curarono e andarono chi al proprio campo, chi ai propri affari;	5 But they made light of it and went off, one to his farm, another to his business,
6 altri poi presero i suoi servi, li insultarono e li uccisero.	6 while the rest seized his servants, treated them shamefully, and killed them.
7 Allora il re si indignò e, mandate le sue truppe, uccise quegli assassini e diede alle fiamme la loro città.	7 The king was angry, and he sent his troops and destroyed those murderers and burned their city.
8 Poi disse ai suoi servi: Il banchetto nuziale è pronto, ma gli invitati non ne erano degni;	8 Then he said to his servants, 'The wedding is ready, but those invited were not worthy.
9 andate ora ai crocicchi delle strade e tutti quelli che troverete, chiamateli alle nozze.	9 Go therefore to the thoroughfares, and invite to the marriage feast as many as you find.'
10 Usciti nelle strade, quei servi raccolsero quanti ne trovarono, buoni e cattivi, e la sala si riempì di commensali.	10 And those servants went out into the streets and gathered all whom they found, both bad and good; so the wedding hall was filled with guests.
11 Il re entrò per vedere i commensali e, scorto un tale che non indossava l'abito nuziale,	11 "But when the king came in to look at the guests, he saw there a man who had no wedding garment;
12 gli disse: Amico, come hai potuto entrare qui senz'abito nuziale? Ed egli ammutolì.	12 and he said to him, 'Friend, how did you get in here without a wedding garment?' And he was speechless.
13 Allora il re ordinò ai servi: Legatelo mani e piedi e gettatelo fuori nelle tenebre; là sarà pianto e stridore di denti.	13 Then the king said to the attendants, 'Bind him hand and foot, and cast him into the outer darkness; there men will weep and gnash their teeth.'
14 Perché molti sono chiamati, ma pochi eletti".	14 For many are called, but few are chosen."
15 Allora i farisei, ritiratisi, tennero consiglio per vedere di coglierlo in fallo nei suoi discorsi.	15 Then the Pharisees went and took counsel how to entangle him in his talk.
16 Mandarono dunque a lui i propri discepoli, con gli erodiani, a dirgli: "Maestro, sappiamo che sei veritiero e insegni la via di Dio secondo verità e non hai soggezione di nessuno perché non guardi in faccia ad alcuno.	16 And they sent their disciples to him, along with the Herodi-ans, saying, "Teacher, we know that you are true, and teach the way of God truthfully, and care for no man; for you do not regard the position of men.
17 Dicci dunque il tuo parere: È lecito o no pagare il tributo a Cesare?".	17 Tell us, then, what you think. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?"
18 Ma Gesù, conoscendo la loro malizia, rispose: "Ipocriti, perché mi tentate?	18 But Jesus, aware of their malice, said, "Why put me to the test, you hypocrites?
19 Mostratemi la moneta del tributo". Ed essi gli presentarono un denaro.	19 Show me the money for the tax." And they brought him a coin.
20 Egli domandò loro: "Di chi è questa immagine e l'iscrizione?".	20 And Jesus said to them, "Whose likeness and inscription is this?"
21 Gli risposero: "Di Cesare". Allora disse loro: "Rendete dunque a Cesare quello che è di Cesare e a Dio quello che è di Dio".	21 They said, "Caesars." Then he said to them, "Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesars, and to God the things that are Gods."
22 A queste parole rimasero sorpresi e, lasciatolo, se ne andarono.	22 When they heard it, they marveled; and they left him and went away.
23 In quello stesso giorno vennero a lui dei sadducei, i quali affermano che non c'è risurrezione, e lo interrogarono:	23 The same day Sadducees came to him, who say that there is no resurrection; and they asked him a question,
24 "Maestro, Mosè ha detto: 'Se qualcuno muore senza figli, il fratello ne sposerà la vedova e così susciterà una discendenza al suo fratello'.	24 saying, "Teacher, Moses said, 'If a man dies, having no children, his brother must marry the widow, and raise up children for his brother.'
25 Ora, c'erano tra noi sette fratelli; il primo appena sposato morì e, non avendo discendenza, lasciò la moglie a suo fratello.	25 Now there were seven brothers among us; the first married, and died, and having no children left his wife to his brother.
26 Così anche il secondo, e il terzo, fino al settimo.	26 So too the second and third, down to the seventh.
27 Alla fine, dopo tutti, morì anche la donna.	27 After them all, the woman died.
28 Alla risurrezione, di quale dei sette essa sarà moglie? Poiché tutti l'hanno avuta".	28 In the resurrection, therefore, to which of the seven will she be wife? For they all had her."
29 E Gesù rispose loro: "Voi vi ingannate, non conoscendo né le Scritture né la potenza di Dio.	29 But Jesus answered them, "You are wrong, because you know neither the scriptures nor the power of God.
30 Alla risurrezione infatti non si prende né moglie né marito, ma si è come angeli nel cielo.	30 For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven.
31 Quanto poi alla risurrezione dei morti, non avete letto quello che vi è stato detto da Dio:	31 And as for the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was said to you by God,
32 'Io sono il Dio di Abramo e il Dio di Isacco e il Dio di Giacobbe?' Ora, non è Dio dei morti, ma dei vivi".	32 'I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? He is not God of the dead, but of the living."
33 Udendo ciò, la folla era sbalordita per la sua dottrina.	33 And when the crowd heard it, they were astonished at his teaching.
34 Allora i farisei, udito che egli aveva chiuso la bocca ai sadducei, si riunirono insieme	34 But when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they came together.
35 e uno di loro, un dottore della legge, lo interrogò per metterlo alla prova:	35 And one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question, to test him.
36 "Maestro, qual è il più grande comandamento della legge?".	36 "Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?"
37 Gli rispose: "'Amerai il Signore Dio tuo con tutto il cuore, con tutta la tua anima' e con tutta la tua mente.	37 And he said to him, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.
38 Questo è il più grande e il primo dei comandamenti.	38 This is the great and first commandment.
39 E il secondo è simile al primo: 'Amerai il prossimo tuo come te stesso'.	39 And a second is like it, You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
40 Da questi due comandamenti dipendono tutta la Legge e i Profeti".	40 On these two commandments depend all the law and the prophets."
41 Trovandosi i farisei riuniti insieme, Gesù chiese loro:	41 Now while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them a question,
42 "Che ne pensate del Messia? Di chi è figlio?". Gli risposero: "Di Davide".	42 saying, "What do you think of the Christ? Whose son is he?" They said to him, "The son of David."
43 Ed egli a loro: "Come mai allora Davide, sotto ispirazione, lo chiama Signore, dicendo:	43 He said to them, "How is it then that David, inspired by the Spirit, calls him Lord, saying,
44 'Ha detto il Signore al mio Signore: Siedi alla mia destra, finché io non abbia posto i tuoi nemici sotto i tuoi piedi?'	44 'The Lord said to my Lord, Sit at my right hand, till I put thy enemies under thy feet?
45 Se dunque Davide lo chiama Signore, come può essere suo figlio?".	45 If David thus calls him Lord, how is he his son?"
46 Nessuno era in grado di rispondergli nulla; e nessuno, da quel giorno in poi, osò interrogarlo.	46 And no one was able to answer him a word, nor from that day did any one dare to ask him any more questions.
