1 Dopo di questi sorse Natan, per profetizzare al tempo di Davide.	1 After him came NATHAN who served in the presence of David.
2 Come il grasso si preleva nel sacrificio pacifico, così Davide dagli Israeliti.	2 Like the choice fat of the sacred offerings, so was DAVID in Israel.
3 Egli scherzò con leoni quasi fossero capretti, con gli orsi quasi fossero agnelli.	3 He made sport of lions as though they were kids, and of bears, like lambs of the flock.
4 Nella giovinezza non ha forse ucciso il gigante e cancellata l'ignominia dal popolo, scagliando con la fionda la pietra, che abbatté la tracotanza di Golia?	4 As a youth he slew the giant and wiped out the people's disgrace, When his hand let fly the slingstone that crushed the pride of Goliath.
5 Poiché aveva invocato il Signore altissimo, egli concesse alla sua destra la forza di eliminare un potente guerriero e riaffermare la potenza del suo popolo.	5 Since he called upon the Most High God, who gave strength to his right arm To defeat the skilled warrior and raise up the might of his people,
6 Così l'esaltarono per i suoi diecimila, lo lodarono nei canti del Signore e gli offrirono un diadema di gloria.	6 Therefore the women sang his praises and ascribed to him tens of thousands. When he assumed the royal crown, he battled
7 Egli infatti sterminò i nemici all'intorno e annientò i Filistei, suoi avversari; distrusse la loro potenza fino ad oggi.	7 and subdued the enemy on every side. He destroyed the hostile Philistines and shattered their power till our own day.
8 In ogni sua opera glorificò il Santo altissimo con parole di lode; cantò inni a lui con tutto il cuore e amò colui che l'aveva creato.	8 With his every deed he offered thanks to God Most High, in words of praise. With his whole being he loved his Maker and daily had his praises sung;
9 Introdusse musicanti davanti all'altare; raddolcendo i canti con i loro suoni;	9 He added beauty to the feasts and solemnized the seasons of each year With string music before the altar, providing sweet melody for the psalms
10 conferì splendore alle feste, abbellì le solennità fino alla perfezione, facendo lodare il nome santo di Dio ed echeggiare fin dal mattino il santuario.	10 So that when the Holy Name was praised, before daybreak the sanctuary would resound.
11 Il Signore gli perdonò i suoi peccati, innalzò la sua potenza per sempre, gli concesse un'alleanza regale e un trono di gloria in Israele.	11 The LORD forgave him his sins and exalted his strength forever; He conferred on him the rights of royalty and established his throne in Israel.
12 Dopo di lui sorse un figlio saggio, che, in grazia sua, ebbe un vasto regno.	12 Because of his merits he had as his successor a wise son, who lived in security:
13 Salomone regnò in tempo di pace, Dio dispose che tutto fosse tranquillo all'intorno perché costruisse una casa al suo nome e preparasse un santuario perenne.	13 SOLOMON reigned during an era of peace, for God made tranquil all his borders. He built a house to the name of God, and established a lasting sanctuary.
14 Come fosti saggio nella giovinezza, versando copiosa intelligenza come acqua d'un fiume!	14 How wise you were when you were young, overflowing with instruction, like the Nile in flood!
15 La tua scienza ricoprì la terra, riempiendola di sentenze difficili.	15 Your understanding covered the whole earth, and, like a sea, filled it with knowledge.
16 Il tuo nome giunse fino alle isole lontane; fosti amato nella tua pace.	16 Your fame reached distant coasts, and their peoples came to hear you;
17 Per i tuoi canti, i tuoi proverbi, le tue massime e per le tue risposte ti ammirarono i popoli.	17 With song and story and riddle, and with your answers, you astounded the nations.
18 Nel nome del Signore Dio, che è chiamato Dio di Israele, accumulasti l'oro quasi fosse stagno, come il piombo rendesti abbondante l'argento.	18 You were called by that glorious name which was conferred upon Israel. Gold you gathered like so much iron, you heaped up silver as though it were lead;
19 Ma accostasti i tuoi fianchi alle donne, e ne fosti dominato nel corpo.	19 But you abandoned yourself to women and gave them dominion over your body.
20 Così deturpasti la tua gloria e profanasti la tua discendenza, sì da attirare l'ira divina sui tuoi figli e sofferenze con la tua follia.	20 You brought dishonor upon your reputation, shame upon your marriage, Wrath upon your descendants, and groaning upon your domain;
21 Il regno fu diviso in due e in Efraim si instaurò un potere ribelle.	21 Thus two governments came into being, when in Ephraim kingship was usurped.
22 Ma il Signore non rinnegherà la sua misericordia e non permetterà che venga meno alcuna delle sue parole. Non farà perire la posterità del suo eletto né distruggerà la stirpe di colui che lo amò. Concesse un resto a Giacobbe e a Davide un germoglio nato dalla sua stirpe.	22 But God does not withdraw his mercy, nor permit even one of his promises to fail. He does not uproot the posterity of his chosen one, nor destroy the offspring of his friend. So he gave to Jacob a remnant, to David a root from his own family.
23 Salomone andò a riposare con i suoi padri, lasciando dopo di sé un discendente, stoltezza del popolo e privo di senno, Roboàmo, che si alienò il popolo con i suoi consigli.	23 Solomon finally slept with his fathers, and left behind him one of his sons, Expansive in folly, limited in sense, REHOBOAM, who by his policy made the people rebel; Until one arose who should not be remembered, the sinner who led Israel into sin, Who brought ruin to Ephraim
24 Geroboàmo figlio di Nabàt fece peccare Israele e aprì a Efraim la via del peccato; le loro colpe si moltiplicarono assai, sì da farli esiliare dal proprio paese.	24 and caused them to be exiled from their land. Their sinfulness grew more and more,
25 Essi commisero ogni genere di malvagità finché non giunse su di loro la vendetta.	25 and they lent themselves to every evil,
