1 Un tozzo di pane secco con tranquillità è meglio di una casa piena di banchetti festosi e di discordia.	1 A dry morsel with gladness is better than a house full of sacrifices along with conflict.
2 Lo schiavo intelligente prevarrà su un figlio disonorato e avrà parte con i fratelli all'eredità.	2 A wise servant shall rule over foolish sons, and he will divide the inheritance among brothers.
3 Il crogiuolo è per l'argento e il forno per l'oro, ma chi prova i cuori è il Signore.	3 Just as silver is tested by fire, and gold is tested in the furnace, so also does the Lord test hearts.
4 Il maligno presta attenzione a un labbro maledico, il bugiardo ascolta una lingua nociva.	4 The evil obey an unjust tongue. And the false are submissive to lying lips.
5 Chi deride il povero offende il suo creatore, chi gioisce della sciagura altrui non resterà impunito.	5 Whoever despises the poor rebukes his Maker. And whoever rejoices in the ruin of another will not go unpunished.
6 Corona dei vecchi sono i figli dei figli, onore dei figli i loro padri.	6 Sons of sons are the crown of old age. And the glory of sons is their fathers.
7 Non conviene all'insensato un linguaggio elevato, ancor meno al principe un linguaggio falso.	7 Well-chosen words are not fitting for the foolish, nor are lying lips fitting for a leader.
8 Il dono è come un talismano per il proprietario: dovunque si volga ha successo.	8 The expectation of those who stand ready is a most pleasing jewel. Whichever way he turns himself, he understands prudently.
9 Chi copre la colpa si concilia l'amicizia, ma chi la divulga divide gli amici.	9 Whoever conceals an offense seeks friendships. Whoever repeats the words of another separates allies.
10 Fa più una minaccia all'assennato che cento percosse allo stolto.	10 A correction benefits more with a wise man, than a hundred stripes with a fool.
11 Il malvagio non cerca altro che la ribellione, ma gli sarà mandato contro un messaggero senza pietà.	11 The evil one continually seeks conflicts. But a cruel Angel shall be sent against him.
12 Meglio incontrare un'orsa privata dei figli che uno stolto in preda alla follia.	12 It is more expedient to meet a bear robbed of her young, than the foolish trusting in his own folly.
13 Chi rende male per bene vedrà sempre la sventura in casa.	13 Whoever repays evil for good, evil shall not withdraw from his house.
14 Iniziare un litigio è come aprire una diga, prima che la lite si esasperi, troncala.	14 Whoever releases the water is the head of the conflict. And just before he suffers contempt, he abandons judgment.
15 Assolvere il reo e condannare il giusto sono due cose in abominio al Signore.	15 Those who justify the impious, and those who condemn the just, both are abominable with God.
16 A che serve il denaro in mano allo stolto? Forse a comprar la sapienza, se egli non ha senno?	16 What does it profit the foolish to have riches, when he is not able to buy wisdom? Whoever makes his house high seeks ruin. And whoever shuns learning shall fall into evils.
17 Un amico vuol bene sempre, è nato per essere un fratello nella sventura.	17 Whoever is a friend loves at all times. And a brother is proved by distress.
18 È privo di senno l'uomo che offre garanzie e si dà come garante per il suo prossimo.	18 A foolish man will clap his hands, when he makes a pledge for his friend.
19 Chi ama la rissa ama il delitto, chi alza troppo l'uscio cerca la rovina.	19 Whoever dwells on discord loves disputes. And whoever exalts his door seeks ruin.
20 Un cuore perverso non troverà mai felicità, una lingua tortuosa andrà in malora.	20 Whoever is of a perverse heart shall not find good. And whoever turns his tongue shall fall into evil.
21 Chi genera uno stolto ne avrà afflizione; non può certo gioire il padre di uno sciocco.	21 A foolish one is born into his own disgrace. But his father will not rejoice in one who is senseless.
22 Un cuore lieto fa bene al corpo, uno spirito abbattuto inaridisce le ossa.	22 A joyful soul makes a lifetime flourish. A gloomy spirit dries out the bones.
23 L'iniquo accetta regali di sotto il mantello per deviare il corso della giustizia.	23 The impious receives gifts from the bosom, so that he may pervert the paths of judgment.
24 L'uomo prudente ha la sapienza davanti a sé, ma gli occhi dello stolto vagano in capo al mondo.	24 Prudence shines from the face of the wise. The eyes of the foolish are on the ends of the earth.
25 Un figlio stolto è un tormento per il padre e un'amarezza per colei che lo ha partorito.	25 A foolish son is the anger of the father and the grief of the mother who conceived him.
26 Non sta bene multare chi ha ragione e peggio ancora colpire gli innocenti.	26 It is not good to inflict damage on the just, nor to strike the leader who judges uprightly.
27 Chi è parco di parole possiede la scienza; uno spirito calmo è un uomo intelligente.	27 Whoever moderates his words is learned and prudent. And a man of learning has a precious spirit.
28 Anche lo stolto, se tace, passa per saggio e, se tien chiuse le labbra, per intelligente.	28 If he would remain silent, even the foolish would be considered wise, and if he closes his lips, intelligent.
