| 1 Ricominciamo noi ora a raccomandare noi stessi ? ovvero, abbiamo forse bisogno, come certuni, di lettere commendatizie presso di voi o da parte vostra? | 1 Do we begin again to commend ourselves? Or do we need (as some do) epistles of commendation to you, or from you? |
| 2 La nostra lettera siete voi: una lettera scritta nei nostri cuori, che è conosciuta e può essere letta da tutti gli uomini; | 2 You are our epistle, written in our hearts, which is known and read by all men: |
| 3 poiché è evidente che siete una lettera di Cristo, redatta da noi suoi ministri e scritta non già con inchiostro, bensì con lo Spirito del Dio vivo; non su tavole di pietra, ma su tavole che sono i vostri cuori di carne. | 3 Being manifested, that you are the epistle of Christ, ministered by us, and written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in the fleshly tables of the heart. |
| 4 Tale fiducia noi abbiamo per mezzo di Cristo davanti a Dio. | 4 And such confidence we have, through Christ, towards God. |
| 5 Non già che da noi stessi siamo idonei a concepire una qualche cosa come per virtù propria, no, ma l’essere noi idonei proviene da Dio, | 5 Not that we are sufficient to think any thing of ourselves, as of ourselves: but our sufficiency is from God. |
| 6 il quale ci ha dato la capacità di essere ministri di una nuova alleanza; non di quella della lettera, ma di quella dello Spirito, perché la lettera uccide, lo Spirito dà la vita. | 6 Who also hath made us fit ministers of the new testament, not in the letter, but in the spirit. For the letter killeth, but the spirit quickeneth. |
| 7 Ora, se un ministero di morte, scolpito in lettere su pietre, ebbe luogo con tale gloria che i figli di Israele non potevano fissare il volto di Mosè a motivo dello splendore del suo volto, che pure era passeggero, | 7 Now if the ministration of death, engraven with letters upon stones, was glorious; so that the children of Israel could not steadfastly behold the face of Moses, for the glory of his countenance, which is made void: |
| 8 quanto non dev’essere più glorioso il ministero dello Spirito? | 8 How shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather in glory? |
| 9 Se infatti il ministero che apportò condanna fu glorioso, ben più ricco di gloria è il ministero che apporta la giustizia. | 9 For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more the ministration of justice aboundeth in glory. |
| 10 E allora ciò che fu glorioso sotto questo aspetto ha cessato ormai di esserlo a causa della gloria che tutto trascende. | 10 For even that which was glorious in this part was not glorified, by reason of the glory that excelleth. |
| 11 Poiché, se ciò che era transitorio si manifestò attraverso la gloria, molto pi eminente nella gloria dev’essere quello che è duraturo. | 11 For if that which is done away was glorious, much more that which remaineth is in glory. |
| 12 Avendo tale speranza, dunque, noi ci comportiamo con molta franchezza | 12 Having therefore such hope, we use much confidence: |
| 13 e non facciamo come Mosè che si metteva un velo sul volto perché i figli di Israele non vedessero il cessare dello splendore passeggero. | 13 And not as Moses put a veil upon his face, that the children of Israel might not steadfastly look on the face of that which is made void. |
| 14 Del resto le loro menti si sono indurite. Infatti, fino a oggi, quel medesimo velo durante la lettura del Vecchio Testamento permane non rimosso, perché solo in Cristo si dissolve. | 14 But their senses were made dull. For, until this present day, the selfsame veil, in the reading of the old testament, remaineth not taken away (because in Christ it is made void). |
| 15 Che anzi, fino a oggi, ogni volta che si legge Mosè, un velo si stende. sul loro cuore, | 15 But even until this day, when Moses is read, the veil is upon their heart. |
| 16 ma, quando Israele si convertirà al Signore, il velo verrà tolto via. | 16 But when they shall be converted to the Lord, the veil shall be taken away. |
| 17 Ora, il Signore è lo Spirito e dove è lo Spirito là c’è libertà. | 17 Now the Lord is a Spirit. And where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. |
| 18 E noi tutti che, a viso scoperto, rispecchiamo la gloria del Signore, siamo trasformati nella sua stessa immagine, di gloria in gloria, come si addice al Signore che è Spirito. | 18 But we all beholding the glory of the Lord with open face, are transformed into the same image from glory to glory, as by the Spirit of the Lord. |
