| 1 Nel primo anno di Ciro re di Persia, Jahvè, per compiere ciò che aveva detto per bocca di Geremia, suscitò lo spirito di Ciro, re di Persia. Questi fece bandire per tutto il regno, anche per scritto, questo proclama: | 1 In the first year of Cyrus king of Persia -- to fulfil the word of Yahweh spoken through Jeremiah -Yahwehroused the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia to issue a proclamation and to have it publicly displayed throughout hiskingdom: |
| 2 «Così dice Ciro, re di Persia: “Jahvè, Dio del cielo, che mi ha concesso tutti i regni della terra, mi ha anche comandato di edificargli una casa a Gerusalemme, che si trova in Giuda. | 2 'Cyrus king of Persia says this, "Yahweh, the God of heaven, has given me all the kingdoms of the earthand has appointed me to build him a Temple in Jerusalem, in Judah. |
| 3 Chi di voi appartiene alla comunità del suo popolo? Il suo Dio sia con lui, faccia pure ritorno a Gerusalemme di Giuda ed edifichi il tempio di Jahvè, Dio di Israele, Dio che abita a Gerusalemme. | 3 Whoever among you belongs to the ful tal y of his people, may his God be with him! Let him go up toJerusalem, in Judah, and build the Temple of Yahweh, God of Israel, who is the God in Jerusalem. |
| 4 Tutti i superstiti, dovunque essi abitino, saranno forniti dagli abitanti del loro luogo di argento, oro, beni e bestiame, oltrechè delle offerte spontanee per il tempio di Dio a Gerusalemme”». | 4 And let each survivor, wherever he lives, be helped by the people of his locality with silver, gold,equipment and riding beasts, as wel as voluntary offerings for the Temple of God which is in Jerusalem." ' |
| 5 I capicasata di Giuda e di Beniamin, i sacerdoti, i Leviti, quanti Dio aveva ispirato a fare ritorno per riedificare il tempio di Jahvè a Gerusalemme, si misero dunque in cammino, | 5 Then the heads of families of Judah and of Benjamin, the priests and the Levites, in fact al whose spirithad been roused by God, prepared to go and rebuild the Temple of Yahweh in Jerusalem; |
| 6 dopo che tutti i loro vicini li ebbero incoraggiati con suppellettili d’argento, oro, con doni, bestiame è oggetti preziosi, oltrechè con le offerte spontanee. | 6 and al their neighbours gave them every kind of help: silver, gold, equipment, riding beasts andvaluable presents, in addition to their voluntary offerings. |
| 7 Anche il re Ciro fece uscire le suppellettili del tempio di Jahvè, che ‘Nabucodonosor aveva asportato da Gerusalemme per deporle nel tempio del suo dio. | 7 Furthermore, King Cyrus handed over the articles belonging to the Temple of Yahweh whichNebuchadnezzar had carried away from Jerusalem and put in the temple of his god. |
| 8 Ciro, re di Persia, le fece prelevare per mezzo di Mitridate e il tesoriere, che le consegnò contate a Sheshbazzar, principe di Giuda. | 8 Cyrus king of Persia handed them over to Mithredath the treasurer who checked them out toSheshbazzar the prince of Judah. |

| 11 Il numero delle suppellettili d’oro e d’argento ammontava a cinquemilaquattrocento. Sheshbazzar le prelevò tutte quando gli esuli furono ricondotti da Babilonia a Gerusalemme. | 11 In al , five thousand four hundred articles of gold and silver. Sheshbazzar took al these with him whenhe led the exiles back from Babylon to Jerusalem. |
