2 chantez-le, jouez pour lui, récitez toutes ses merveilles; | 2 Sing to him, make music for him, recount all his wonders! |
3 tirez gloire de son nom de sainteté, joie pour les coeurs qui cherchent Yahvé! | 3 Glory in his holy name, let the hearts that seek Yahweh rejoice! |
4 Recherchez Yahvé et sa force, sans relâche poursuivez sa face; | 4 Seek Yahweh and his strength, tirelessly seek his presence! |
5 rappelez-vous quelles merveilles il a faites, ses miracles et les jugements de sa bouche. | 5 Remember the marvels he has done, his wonders, the judgements he has spoken. |
6 Lignée d'Abraham son serviteur, enfants de Jacob son élu, | 6 Stock of Abraham, his servant, children of Jacob whom he chose! |
7 c'est lui Yahvé notre Dieu: sur toute la terre ses jugements. | 7 He is Yahweh our God, his judgements touch the whole world. |
8 Il se rappelle à jamais son alliance, parole promulguée pour mille générations, | 8 He remembers his covenant for ever, the promise he laid down for a thousand generations, |
9 pacte conclu avec Abraham, serment qu'il fit à Isaac. | 9 which he concluded with Abraham, the oath he swore to Isaac. |
10 Il l'érigea en loi pour Jacob, pour Israël en alliance à jamais, | 10 He established it as a statute for Jacob, an everlasting covenant with Israel, |
11 disant: "Je te donne une terre, Canaan, votre part d'héritage." | 11 saying, 'To you I give a land, Canaan, your allotted birthright.' |
12 Tant qu'on put les compter, peu nombreux, étrangers au pays, | 12 When they were insignificant in numbers, a handful of strangers in the land, |
13 tant qu'ils allaient de nation en nation, d'un royaume à un peuple différent, | 13 wandering from country to country, from one kingdom and nation to another, |
14 il ne laissa personne les opprimer, à cause d'eux il châtia des rois: | 14 he al owed no one to oppress them; for their sake he instructed kings, |
15 "Ne touchez pas à qui m'est consacré; à mes prophètes ne faites pas de mal." | 15 'Do not touch my anointed ones, to my prophets you may do no harm.' |
16 Il appela sur le pays la famine, il brisa leur bâton, le pain; | 16 He cal ed down famine on the land, he took away their food supply; |
17 il envoya devant eux un homme, Joseph vendu comme esclave. | 17 he sent a man ahead of them, Joseph, sold as a slave. |
18 On affligea ses pieds d'entraves, on lui passa les fers au cou; | 18 So his feet were weighed down with shackles, his neck was put in irons. |
19 le temps passa, son oracle s'accomplit, la parole de Yahvé le justifia. | 19 In due time his prophecy was fulfilled, the word of Yahweh proved him true. |
20 Le roi envoya l'élargir, le maître des peuples, lui ouvrir; | 20 The king sent orders to release him, the ruler of nations set him free; |
21 il l'établit seigneur sur sa maison, maître de toute sa richesse, | 21 he put him in charge of his household, the ruler of al he possessed, |
22 pour instruire à son gré ses princes; de ses anciens il fit des sages. | 22 to instruct his princes as he saw fit, to teach his counsel ors wisdom. |
23 Israël passa en Egypte, Jacob séjourna au pays de Cham. | 23 Then Israel migrated to Egypt, Jacob settled in the country of Ham. |
24 Il fit croître son peuple abondamment, le fortifia plus que ses adversaires; | 24 He made his people increase in numbers, he gave them more strength than their enemies, |
25 changeant leur coeur, il les fit haïr son peuple et ruser avec ses serviteurs. | 25 whose heart he turned to hate his own people, to double-cross his servants. |
26 Il envoya son serviteur Moïse, Aaron qu'il s'était choisi; | 26 He sent his servant Moses, and Aaron, the man of his choice. |
27 ils firent chez eux les signes qu'il avait dits, des miracles au pays de Cham. | 27 They worked there the wonders he commanded, marvels in the country of Ham. |
28 Il envoya la ténèbre et enténébra, mais ils bravèrent ses ordres. | 28 Darkness he sent, and darkness fel , but that nation defied his orders. |
29 Il changea leurs eaux en sang et fit périr leurs poissons. | 29 He turned their rivers to blood, and kil ed al the fish in them. |
30 Leur pays grouilla de grenouilles jusque dans les chambres des rois; | 30 Their country was overrun with frogs, even in the royal apartments; |
31 il dit, et les insectes passèrent, les moustiques sur toute la contrée. | 31 at his word came flies, and mosquitoes throughout the country. |
32 Il leur donna pour pluie la grêle, flammes de feu sur leur pays; | 32 He gave them hail as their rain, flames of fire in their land; |
33 il frappa leur vigne et leur figuier, il brisa les arbres de leur contrée. | 33 he blasted their vine and their fig tree, and shattered the trees of the country. |
34 Il dit, et les sauterelles passèrent, les criquets, et ils étaient sans nombre, | 34 At his word came locusts, hoppers beyond al counting; |
35 et ils mangèrent toute herbe en leur pays et ils mangèrent le fruit de leur terroir. | 35 they devoured every green thing in the land, devoured al the produce of the soil. |
36 Il frappa tout premier-né dans leur pays, toute la fleur de leur race; | 36 He struck al the first-born in their land, the flower of all their manhood; |
37 il les fit sortir avec or et argent, et pas un dans leurs tribus ne trébuchait. | 37 he led Israel out with silver and gold; in their tribes there was none who stumbled. |
38 L'Egypte se réjouit de leur sortie, elle en était saisie de terreur; | 38 Egypt was glad at their leaving, for terror of Israel had seized them. |
39 il déploya une nuée pour les couvrir, un feu pour éclairer de nuit. | 39 He spread out a cloud to cover them, and fire to light up the night. |
40 Ils demandèrent, il fit passer les cailles, du pain des cieux il les rassasia; | 40 They asked and he brought them quails, food from heaven to their hearts' content; |
41 il ouvrit le rocher, les eaux jaillirent, dans le lieu sec elles coulaient comme un fleuve. | 41 he opened a rock, the waters gushed out, and flowed in dry ground as a river. |
42 Se rappelant sa parole sacrée envers Abraham son serviteur, | 42 Faithful to his sacred promise, given to his servant Abraham, |
43 il fit sortir son peuple dans l'allégresse, parmi les cris de joie, ses élus. | 43 he led out his people with rejoicing, his chosen ones with shouts of joy. |
44 Il leur donna les terres des païens, du labeur des nations ils héritèrent, | 44 He gave them the territories of nations, they reaped the fruit of other people's labours, |
45 en sorte qu'ils gardent ses décrets et qu'ils observent ses lois. | 45 on condition that they kept his statutes, and remained obedient to his laws. |
