JERUSALEM	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Appelle maintenant! Est-ce qu'on te répondra? Auquel des saints t'adresseras-tu?	1 Make your appeal then. Wil you find an answer? To which of the holy ones wil you turn?
2 En vérité, le dépit tue l'insensé et l'emportement fait mourir le sot.	2 Resentment kil s the senseless, and anger brings death to the fool.
3 J'ai vu ceci, moi: l'un d'eux prenait racine, quand sa demeure fut soudain maudite.	3 I have seen the senseless taking root, when a curse fel suddenly on his house.
4 Ses fils sont privés de tout appui, accablés à la Porte sans défenseur;	4 His children are deprived of prop and stay, ruined at the gate, and no one to defend them;
5 leur moisson nourrit des affamés, car Dieu la leur ôte de la bouche, et des hommes altérés convoitentleurs biens.	5 their harvest goes to feed the hungry, God snatches it from their mouths, and covetous people thirst fortheir possessions.
6 Non, la misère ne sourd pas de terre, la peine ne germe pas du sol.	6 No, misery does not grow out of the soil, nor sorrow spring from the ground.
7 C'est l'homme qui engendre la peine comme le vol des aigles recherche l'altitude.	7 It is people who breed trouble for themselves as surely as eagles fly to the height.
8 Pour moi, j'aurais recours à Dieu, à lui j'exposerais ma cause.	8 If I were you, I should appeal to God and lay my case before him.
9 Il est l'auteur d'oeuvres grandioses et insondables, de merveilles qu'on ne peut compter.	9 His works are great, past al reckoning, marvels beyond al counting.
10 Il répand la pluie sur la terre, envoie les eaux sur les campagnes.	10 He sends down rain to the earth, pours down water on the fields.
11 S'il veut relever les humiliés, pousser les affligés au comble du bonheur,	11 If his wil is to raise up the downcast, or exalt the afflicted to the heights of prosperity,
12 il déjoue les desseins des astucieux, incapables de mener à bien leurs intrigues.	12 he frustrates the plans of the artful so that they cannot succeed in their intrigues.
13 Il prend les sages au piège de leurs astuces, rend stupides les conseillers retors.	13 He traps the crafty in the snare of their own trickery, throws the plans of the cunning into disarray.
14 En plein jour ils se heurtent aux ténèbres, ils tâtonnent à midi comme dans la nuit.	14 In daylight they come up against darkness, and grope their way as if noon were night.
15 Il arrache de leur gueule l'homme ruiné et le pauvre des mains du puissant.	15 He rescues the bankrupt from their jaws, and the needy from the grasp of the mighty.
16 Alors le faible renaît à l'espoir et l'injustice doit fermer la bouche.	16 Hope springs afresh for the weak, and wickedness must shut its mouth.
17 Oui, heureux l'homme que Dieu corrige! Aussi, ne méprise pas la leçon de Shaddaï.	17 Blessed are those whom God corrects! Do not then scorn the lesson of Shaddai!
18 Lui, qui blesse, puis panse la plaie, qui meurtrit, puis guérit de sa main,	18 For he who wounds is he who soothes the sore, and the hand that hurts is the hand that heals.
19 six fois de l'angoisse il te délivrera, et une septième le mal t'épargnera.	19 Six times he wil deliver you from sorrow, and the seventh time, evil wil not touch you.
20 Dans une famine, il te sauvera de la mort; à la guerre, des atteintes de l'épée.	20 In time of famine, he wil save you from death, and in wartime from the stroke of the sword.
21 Tu seras à l'abri du fouet de la langue, sans crainte à l'approche du pillard.	21 You will be safe from the lash of the tongue, unafraid at the approach of the despoiler.
22 Tu riras de la sécheresse et du gel et tu ne craindras pas les bêtes de la terre.	22 You will laugh at drought and frost, and have no fear of the beasts of the earth.
23 Tu auras un pacte avec les pierres des champs, les bêtes sauvages seront en paix avec toi.	23 You will have a pact with the stones of the field, and live in amity with wild beasts.
24 Tu trouveras ta tente prospère, ton bercail au complet quand tu le visiteras.	24 You will know that your tent is secure, and your sheepfold unharmed when you inspect it.
25 Tu verras ta postérité s'accroître, tes rejetons pousser comme l'herbe des champs.	25 You will see your descendants multiply, your offspring grow like the grass in the fields.
26 Tu entreras dans la tombe bien mûr, comme on entasse la meule en son temps.	26 At a ripe age you wil go to the grave, like a wheatsheaf stacked in due season.
27 Tout cela, nous l'avons observé: c'est la vérité! A toi d'écouter et d'en faire ton profit.	27 Al this we have observed and it is so! Heed it, you wil be the wiser for it!
