Jesus Sirach 12

EINHEITSUBERSETZUNG BIBEL	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 Wenn du Gutes tust, wisse, wem du es tust, dann wirst du Dank ernten für deine Wohltat.	1 If you do good, know for whom you are doing it, and your kindness will have its effect.
2 Tu dem Gerechten Gutes; dann findest du Lohn, wenn nicht von ihm, so doch vom Herrn.	2 Do good to the just man and reward will be yours, if not from him, from the LORD.
3 Ohne Dank bleibt, wer einen Frevler beschenkt, auch hat er kein gutes Werk vollbracht.	3 No good comes to him who gives comfort to the wicked, nor is it an act of mercy that he does.
4 Gib dem Guten, nicht aber dem Bösen, unterstütze den Demütigen, gib nicht dem Hochmütigen!	4 Give to the good man, refuse the sinner; refresh the downtrodden, give nothing to the proud man.
5 Rüste ihn nicht mit Kampfwaffen aus, sonst greift er dich selbst mit ihnen an. Doppeltes Übel trifft dich [in der Zeit der Not] für all das Gute, das du ihm getan hast.	5 No arms for combat should you give him, lest he use them against yourself;
6 Denn auch Gott hasst die Bösen, den Frevlern vergilt er mit Strafe.	6 With twofold evil you will meet for every good deed you do for him.
7 []	7 The Most High himself hates sinners, and upon the wicked he takes vengeance.
8 Im Glück erkennt man den Freund nicht, aber im Unglück bleibt der Feind nicht verborgen.	8 In our prosperity we cannot know our friends; in adversity an enemy will not remain concealed.
9 Im Glück ist auch der Feind ein Freund; im Unglück wendet auch der Freund sich ab.	9 When a man is successful even his enemy is friendly; in adversity even his friend disappears.
10 Trau niemals einem Feind; denn seine Bosheit gleicht dem rostenden Eisen.	10 Never trust your enemy, for his wickedness is like corrosion in bronze.
11 Zeigt er sich auch willig und tut unterwürfig, nimm dich in Acht und hüte dich vor ihm! Sei zu ihm wie ein Spiegelputzer und beachte die letzten Spuren des Rostes!	11 Even though he acts humbly and peaceably toward you, take care to be on your guard against him. Rub him as one polishes a brazen mirror, and you will find that there is still corrosion.
12 Lass ihn nicht an deiner Seite stehen, sonst stürzt er dich und tritt an deine Stelle. Lass ihn nicht zu deiner Rechten sitzen, sonst strebt er nach deinem Sitz. Zu spät begreifst du dann meine Worte und stimmst in meine Klage ein.	12 Let him not stand near you, lest he oust you and take your place. Let him not sit at your right hand, lest he then demand your seat, And in the end you appreciate my advice, when you groan with regret, as I warned you.
13 Wer bedauert den Schlangenbeschwörer, wenn er gebissen wird, und den, der sich reißenden Tieren nähert?	13 Who pities a snake charmer when he is bitten, or anyone who goes near a wild beast?
14 Ihnen gleicht, wer mit einem Schurken verkehrt und sich in seine Sünden verstrickt.	14 So is it with the companion of the proud man, who is involved in his sins:
15 Solange er neben dir steht, zeigt er sich nicht offen, wankst du aber, hält er nicht stand.	15 While you stand firm, he makes no bold move; but if you slip, he cannot hold back.
16 Auf seinen Lippen hat der Gegner süße Worte, doch in seinem Herzen sinnt er auf Verderben. Mag auch der Feind mit seinen Augen weinen, findet er Gelegenheit, wird er an Blut nicht satt.	16 With his lips an enemy speaks sweetly, but in his heart he schemes to plunge you into the abyss. Though your enemy has tears in his eyes, if given the chance, he will never have enough of your blood.
17 Trifft dich ein Unglück, findet er sich ein; als heuchelnder Helfer sucht er dich zu stürzen.	17 If evil comes upon you, you will find him at hand; feigning to help, he will trip you up,
18 Er schüttelt den Kopf und schwingt die Hand, doch unter viel dunklem Gerede ändert er das Gesicht.	18 Then he will nod his head and clap his hands and hiss repeatedly, and show his true face.
