NOVA VULGATA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Locutusque est Deus cunctos sermones hos:	1 Then God spoke al these words. He said,
2 “ Ego sum Dominus Deus tuus, qui eduxi te de terra Aegypti, de domo servitutis.	2 'I am Yahweh your God who brought you out of Egypt, where you lived as slaves.
3 Non habebis deos alienos coram me.	3 'You shal have no other gods to rival me.
4 Non facies tibi sculptile neque omnem similitudinem eorum, quae sunt in caelo desuper et quae in terra deorsum et quae in aquis sub terra.	4 'You shal not make yourself a carved image or any likeness of anything in heaven above or on earthbeneath or in the waters under the earth.
5 Non adorabis ea neque coles, quia ego sum Dominus Deus tuus, Deus zelotes, visitans iniquitatem patrum in filiis in tertiam et quartam generationem eorum, qui oderunt me,	5 'You shal not bow down to them or serve them. For I, Yahweh your God, am a jealous God and Ipunish a parent's fault in the children, the grandchildren, and the great-grandchildren among those who hate me;
6 et faciens misericordiam in milia his, qui diligunt me et custodiunt praecepta mea.	6 but I act with faithful love towards thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.
7 Non assumes nomen Domini Dei tui in vanum, nec enim habebit insontem Dominus eum, qui assumpserit nomen Domini Dei sui frustra.	7 'You shal not misuse the name of Yahweh your God, for Yahweh wil not leave unpunished anyonewho misuses his name.
8 Memento, ut diem sabbati sanctifices.	8 'Remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy.
9 Sex diebus operaberis et facies omnia opera tua;	9 For six days you shal labour and do al your work,
10 septimus autem dies sabbatum Domino Deo tuo est; non facies omne opus tu et filius tuus et filia tua, servus tuus et ancilla tua, iumentum tuum et advena, qui est intra portas tuas.	10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath for Yahweh your God. You shal do no work that day, neither younor your son nor your daughter nor your servants, men or women, nor your animals nor the alien living with you.
11 Sex enim diebus fecit Dominus caelum et terram et mare et omnia, quae in eis sunt, et requievit in die septimo; idcirco benedixit Dominus diei sabbati et sanctificavit eum.	11 For in six days Yahweh made the heavens, earth and sea and al that these contain, but on theseventh day he rested; that is why Yahweh has blessed the Sabbath day and made it sacred.
12 Honora patrem tuum et matrem tuam, ut sis longaevus super terram, quam Dominus Deus tuus dabit tibi.	12 'Honour your father and your mother so that you may live long in the land that Yahweh your God isgiving you.
13 Non occides.	13 'You shal not kil .
14 Non moechaberis.	14 'You shal not commit adultery.
15 Non furtum facies.	15 'You shal not steal.
16 Non loqueris contra proximum tuum falsum testimonium.	16 'You shal not give false evidence against your neighbour.
17 Non concupisces domum proximi tui: non desiderabis uxorem eius, non servum, non ancillam, non bovem, non asinum nec omnia, quae illius sunt ”.	17 'You shal not set your heart on your neighbour's house. You shal not set your heart on yourneighbour's spouse, or servant, man or woman, or ox, or donkey, or any of your neighbour's possessions.'
18 Cunctus autem populus videbat voces et lampades et sonitum bucinae montemque fumantem; et perterriti ac pavore concussi steterunt procul	18 Seeing the thunder pealing, the lightning flashing, the trumpet blasting and the mountain smoking,the people were al terrified and kept their distance.
19 dicentes Moysi: “ Loquere tu nobis, et audiemus; non loquatur nobis Deus, ne moriamur ”.	19 'Speak to us yourself,' they said to Moses, 'and we wil obey; but do not let God speak to us, or weshall die.'
20 Et ait Moyses ad populum: “ Nolite timere; ut enim probaret vos, venit Deus, et ut timor illius esset in vobis, ne peccaretis ”.	20 Moses said to the people, 'Do not be afraid; God has come to test you, so that your fear of him, beingalways in your mind, may keep you from sinning.'
21 Stetitque populus de longe; Moyses autem accessit ad caliginem, in qua erat Deus.	21 So the people kept their distance while Moses approached the dark cloud where God was.
22 Dixit praeterea Dominus ad Moysen: “ Haec dices filiis Israel: Vos vidistis quod de caelo locutus sim vobis.	22 Yahweh said to Moses, 'Tel the Israelites this, "You have seen for yourselves how I have spoken toyou from heaven.
23 Non facietis praeter me deos argenteos nec deos aureos facietis vobis.	23 You must not make gods of silver to rival me, nor must you make yourselves gods of gold.
24 Altare de terra facietis mihi et offeretis super eo holocausta et pacifica vestra, oves vestras et boves; in omni loco, in quo memoriam fecero nominis mei, veniam ad te et benedicam tibi.	24 "You must make me an altar of earth on which to sacrifice your burnt offerings and communionsacrifices, your sheep and cattle. Wherever I choose to have my name remembered, I shal come to you andbless you.
25 Quod si altare lapideum feceris mihi, non aedificabis illud de sectis lapidibus; si enim levaveris cultrum super eo, polluetur.	25 If you make me an altar of stone, do not build it of dressed stones; for if you use a chisel on it, youwil profane it.
26 Non ascendes per gradus ad altare meum, ne reveletur turpitudo tua.	26 You must not go up to my altar by steps, in case you expose your nakedness on them." '
