1 Universus ergo Israel dinume ratus est, et summa eorum scrip ta est in libro regum Israel et Iudae. Translatique sunt in Babylonem propter delictum suum.1 Thus, al Israel's official genealogies had been entered in the records of the kings of Israel and Judahbefore they were deported to Babylon for their infidelity.
2 Qui autem habitaverunt primi in possessionibus et in urbibus suis: Israel et sacerdotes et Levitae et Nathinaei.
2 Now the first citizens to return to their property in their cities were the Israelites, the priests, the Levitesand the temple slaves.
3 Commorati sunt in Ierusalem de filiis Iudae et de filiis Beniamin, de filiis quoque Ephraim et Manasse.3 In Jerusalem, there settled Judaeans, Benjaminites, Ephraimites and Manassehites.
4 Uthai filius Ammiud filii Amri filii Imri filii Bani: de filiis Phares filii Iudae;4 Uthai son of Ammihud, son of Omri, son of Imri, son of Bani, one of the sons of Perez son of Judah.
5 et de Selanitis: Asaia primogenitus et filii eius;5 Of the descendants of Shelah: Asaiah, the first-born, and his sons.
6 de filiis autem Zara: Iehuel et fratres eorum sescenti nonaginta.6 Of the sons of Zerah: Jeuel. And six hundred and ninety of their kinsmen.

8 et Iobania filius Ieroham et Ela filius Ozi filii Mochori et Mosollam filius Saphatiae filii Rahuel filii Iebaniae8 Ibneiah son of Jeroham; Elah son of Uzzi, son of Michri; and Meshul am son of Shephatiah, son ofReuel, son of Ibnijah.
9 et fratres eorum secundum genealogias suas nongenti quinquaginta sex; omnes hi principes familiarum secundum familias suas.
9 Their kinsmen, according to their relationship, numbered nine hundred and fifty-six. Al these men werechiefs of their families.
10 De sacerdotibus autem: Iedaia, Ioiarib et Iachin,10 Of the priests there were Jedaiah, Jehoiarib, Jachin,
11 Azarias quoque filius Helciae filii Mosollam filii Sadoc filii Meraioth filii Achitob principes domus Dei.11 Azariah son of Hilkiah, son of Meshul am, son of Zadok, son of Meraioth, son of Ahitub, the chief ofthe Temple of God;
12 Porro Adaias filius Ieroham filii Phassur filii Melchiae et Maasai filius Adiel filii Iezra filii Mosollam filii Mosollamoth filii Emmer,12 Adaiah son of Jeroham, son of Pashhur, son of Malchijah; and Maasai son of Adiel, son of Jahzerah,son of Meshullam, son of Meshil emith, son of Immer.
13 fratres quoque eorum principes per familias suas mille septingenti sexaginta, fortissimi robore ad faciendum opus ministerii in domo Dei.
13 Their kinsmen, heads of families, numbered one thousand seven hundred and sixty-men expert in theministerial service of the Temple of God.
14 De Levitis autem: Semeia filius Hassub filii Ezricam filii Hasabia de filiis Merari;14 Of the Levites there were Shemaiah son of Hasshub, son of Azrikam, son of Hashabiah of the sons ofMerari,
15 Bacbacar quoque, Hares et Galal et Matthania filius Micha filii Zechri filii Asaph15 Bakbakar, Heresh, Galai, Mattaniah son of Mica, son of Zichri, son of Asaph.
16 et Abdia filius Semeiae filii Galal filii Idithun et Barachia filius Asa filii Elcana, qui habitavit in atriis Netophathitarum.16 Obadiah son of Shemaiah, son of Galal, son of Jeduthun and Berechiah son of Asa, son of Elkanah,who lived in the dependencies of the Netophathites.
17 Ianitores autem: Sellum et Accub et Telmon et Ahiman; et frater eorum Sellum princeps17 The gatekeepers were Shal um, Akkub, Talmon, Ahiman and their kinsmen. Shal um was the chief
18 et usque ad hoc tempus est in porta regis ad orientem. Hi erant ianitores castris filiorum Levi.18 and is stil gatekeeper of the King's Gate to the east. They were the gatekeepers of the camps of thesons of Levi.
19 Sellum vero filius Core filii Abiasaph filii Core cum fratribus suis de domo patris sui: hi Coritae erant super opera ministerii custodes liminum tabernaculi; patres autem eorum super castra Domini custodiebant introitum,19 Shallum son of Kore, son of Ebiasaph, son of Korah, and his brothers belonging to his family, theKorahites, were also in charge of the ministerial service as doorkeepers of the Tent, as their ancestors had beenkeepers of the entrance to the camp of Yahweh.
20 et Phinees filius Eleazari princeps erat super eos olim — Dominus sit cum eo! —20 Formerly, Phinehas son of Eleazar had been in charge of them -- Yahweh be with him!
21 Zacharias filius Mosollamia ianitor portae tabernaculi conventus.21 Zechariah son of Meshelemiah was gatekeeper at the door of the Tent of Meeting.
22 Omnes hi electi in ostiarios liminum ducenti duodecim, et descripti in villis propriis, quos constituerunt David et Samuel videns in munus perpetuum,22 Al the keepers of the gate at the thresholds were picked men; there were two hundred and twelve ofthem. They were grouped by relationship in their various vil ages. These were confirmed in office by David and Samuel the seer because of their dependability.
23 tam ipsos quam filios eorum in ostiis domus Domini, domus tabernaculi, in custodias.23 They and their sons continued in charge as guards of the gates of the Temple of Yahweh, the houseof the Tent.
24 Per quattuor ventos erant ostiarii, id est ad orientem et ad occidentem, ad aquilonem et ad austrum.24 The gatekeepers were assigned to the four sides, east, west, north and south,
25 Fratres autem eorum in viculis suis morabantur et veniebant per septem dies de tempore usque ad tempus, ut essent cum illis.25 and their brothers in their vil ages were required to assist them from time to time for a week,
26 Nam munus habebant perpetuum hi quattuor principes ianitorum. Hi scilicet Levitae erant super exedras et thesauros domus Domini;26 since the four head gatekeepers were permanently on duty. They were Levites and were in charge ofthe accommodation and supplies of the Temple of God.
27 per gyrum quoque templi Domini pernoctabant in custodiis suis, ut et ipsi mane aperirent fores.
27 They spent the night in the precincts of the Temple of God, their duties being to guard it and open itevery morning.
28 De horum genere erant et super vasa ministerii, ad numerum enim et inferebantur vasa et efferebantur;28 Some of them were in charge of the implements of worship, having to count them when they tookthem out and when they put them away.
29 de ipsis et, qui credita habebant utensilia et omnia utensilia sancta, praeerant similae et vino et oleo et turi et aromatibus.29 Others of them were put in charge of the implements, of al the objects in the sanctuary and of theflour, the wine, the oil, the incense and the perfume.
30 Filii quidam autem sacerdotum unguenta ex aromatibus conficiebant;30 Members of the priestly caste, however, mixed the ointment for the perfume.
31 et Matthathias Levites, primogenitus Sellum Coritae, munere perpetuo praefectus erat eorum, quae in sartagine frigebantur.31 One of the Levites, Mattithiah -- he was the first-born of Shal um the Korahite -- had regular charge ofbaking operations.
32 Porro de filiis Caath fratribus eorum super panes erant propositionis, ut semper novos per singula sabbata praepararent.32 Some of their kinsmen the Kohathites were responsible for the loaves to be set out in rows Sabbathby Sabbath.
33 Hi sunt cantores, principes per familias Levitarum, qui in exedris vacantes morabantur, ita ut die et nocte iugiter suo ministerio deservirent.33 In addition, there were the singers, the heads of the levitical families, who were accommodated in theTemple, free of other responsibilities because they were on duty day and night.
34 Hi sunt capita Levitarum per familias suas secundum genealogias suas principes; hi habitaverunt in Ierusalem.
34 Such were the chiefs of the levitical families, according to their relationship; these lived in Jerusalem.
35 In Gabaon autem commorati sunt pater Gabaon Iehiel, et nomen uxoris eius Maacha.35 Jeiel father of Gibeon lived at Gibeon and his wife was cal ed Maacah.
36 Filius primogenitus eius Abdon et Sur et Cis et Baal et Ner et Nadab,36 His first-born son was Abdon, then Zur, Kish, Baal, Ner, Nadab,
37 Gedor quoque et Ahio et Zacharias et Macelloth.37 Gedor, Ahio, Zechariah and Mikloth.
38 Porro Macelloth genuit Samaam; isti habitaverunt e regione fratrum suorum in Ierusalem cum fratribus suis.38 Mikloth fathered Shimeam. But they, unlike their brothers, lived at Jerusalem with their brothers.
39 Ner autem genuit Cis, et Cis genuit Saul. Et Saul genuit Ionathan et Melchisua et Abinadab et Isbaal.39 Ner fathered Kish, Kish fathered Saul, Saul fathered Jonathan, Malchishua, Abinadab and Eshbaal.
40 Filius autem Ionathan Meribbaal, et Meribbaal genuit Micha;40 Son of Jonathan: Meribbaal. Meribbaal fathered Micah.
41 porro filii Micha: Phithon et Melech et Tharaa et Ahaz.41 Sons of Micah: Pithon, Melech, Tahrea.
42 Ahaz autem genuit Iara, et Iara genuit Almath et Azmaveth et Zamri; Zamri autem genuit Mosa.42 Ahaz fathered Jarah, Jarah fathered Alemeth, Azmaveth and Zimri; Zimri fathered Moza,
43 Mosa vero genuit Banaa, cuius filius Raphaia genuit Elasa, de quo ortus est Asel.43 Moza fathered Binea, Rephaiah his son, Eleasah his son and Azel his son.
44 Porro Asel sex filios habuit his nominibus: Ezricam primogenitus eius, Ismael, Saria, Azarias, Obdia, Hanan; hi filii Asel.
44 Azel had six sons; their names were these: Azrikam his first-born, Ishmael, Sheariah, Obadiah,Hanan. These were the sons of Azel.
