| 1 - Giacchè voglio sappiate che lotta sostenga per voi e per quei di Laodicea, e per tutti quelli che non mi hanno visto di presenza; | 1 For I want you to know how greatly I strive for you, and for those at La-odicea, and for all who have not seen my face, |
| 2 affinchè siano consolati i loro cuori, uniti strettamente nell'amore, e giungano a possedere tutta la ricchezza della piena intelligenza, sì da conseguire la conoscenza del mistero di Dio, [cioè] Cristo, | 2 that their hearts may be encouraged as they are knit together in love, to have all the riches of assured understanding and the knowledge of God's mystery, of Christ, |
| 3 in cui sono tutti i tesori riposti della sapienza e della scienza. | 3 in whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. |
| 4 Questo dico, affinchè nessuno vi tragga in inganno per un parlar seducente. | 4 I say this in order that no one may delude you with beguiling speech. |
| 5 Perchè se anche son da voi lontano di corpo, ma con lo spirito sono con voi; e godo osservando l'ordine vostro e la solidità della vostra fede in Cristo. | 5 For though I am absent in body, yet I am with you in spirit, rejoicing to see your good order and the firmness of your faith in Christ. |
| 6 Come dunque avete accolto Cristo Gesù il Signore, in lui vivete, | 6 As therefore you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so live in him, |
| 7 radicati ed edificati in lui e rinforzati nella fede come vi era stato insegnato, progredendo in azioni di grazie. | 7 rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving. |
| 8 Badate che alcuno non abbia essere il predatore vostro, per mezzo della filosofia e di un vuoto inganno, secondo la tradizione degli uomini secondo gli elementi del mondo, non secondo Cristo; | 8 See to it that no one makes a prey of you by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the universe, and not according to Christ. |
| 9 poichè in Esso abita corporalmente tutta la pienezza della Divinità, | 9 For in him the whole fulness of deity dwells bodily, |
| 10 e voi in Lui siete stati ripieni, in Lui che è capo d'ogni Principato e d'ogni Podestà. | 10 and you have come to fulness of life in him, who is the head of all rule and authority. |
| 11 In Lui siete anche stati circoncisi, con circoncisione non fatta da mano d'uomo, nella spogliazione del corpo di carne, [cioè] nella circoncisione di Cristo, | 11 In him also you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of flesh in the circumcision of Christ; |
| 12 sepolti con Lui nel battesimo, nel quale anche siete stati con lui risuscitati, per la fede nell'onnipotenza di Dio che Lui risuscitò da morte. | 12 and you were buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead. |
| 13 E voi che eravate morti per i peccati e per l'incirconcisione della vostra carne, vi fece con se stesso rivivere, condonando a voi tutti i peccati, | 13 And you, who were dead in trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, |
| 14 scancellando il chirografo contro di noi delle disposizioni che erano a noi contrarie, ed ei lo levò di mezzo inchiodandolo alla croce; | 14 having canceled the bond which stood against us with its legal demands; this he set aside, nailing it to the cross. |
| 15 e spogliati i Principati e le Podestà, li trascinò alla gogna, trionfando di loro su essa [croce]. | 15 He disarmed the principalities and powers and made a public example of them, triumphing over them in him. |
| 16 Nessuno dunque vi giudichi quanto al cibo e alla bevanda, o in riguardo di feste, di novilunii, di sabbati, | 16 Therefore let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink or with regard to a festival or a new moon or a sabbath. |
| 17 le quali cose son l'ombra di ciò che doveva avvenire, ma il corpo è di Cristo. | 17 These are only a shadow of what is to come; but the substance belongs to Christ. |
| 18 Nessuno v'inganni in affettazione di umiltà e seguendo il culto superstizioso degli angeli, andando dietro a sole fantasie, vanamente enfiato dei pensieri della carne, | 18 Let no one disqualify you, insisting on self-abasement and worship of angels, taking his stand on visions, puffed up without reason by his sensuous mind, |
| 19 non aderendo al capo, dal quale tutto il corpo ben sorretto per via delle articolazioni e dei legamenti e insieme compatto, prende quello sviluppo, che è da Dio. | 19 and not holding fast to the Head, from whom the whole body, nourished and knit together through its joints and ligaments, grows with a growth that is from God. |
| 20 Se siete morti in Cristo agli elementi del mondo, perchè come viventi nel mondo vi lasciate imporre precetti: | 20 If with Christ you died to the elemental spirits of the universe, why do you live as if you still belonged to the world? Why do you submit to regulations, |
| 21 «Non pigliare di questo», «Non gustar di quello», «Non toccare», | 21 "Do not handle, Do not taste, Do not touch" |
| 22 che son cose tutte destinate a perir coll'uso secondo gli ordini e le discipline degli uomini? | 22 (referring to things which all perish as they are used), according to human precepts and doctrines? |
| 23 Son cose che hanno sì ragion di sapienza per apparenza di spontaneo culto e di umiltà, e per trattare senza riguardi il corpo, ma non hanno alcun valore a soddisfazione della carne. | 23 These have indeed an appearance of wisdom in promoting rigor of devotion and self-abasement and severity to the body, but they are of no value in checking the indulgence of the flesh. |
