Isaia 9

BIBBIA CEI 1974	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Il popolo che camminava nelle tenebre vide una grande luce; su coloro che abitavano in terra tenebrosa una luce rifulse.	1 The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light; on the inhabitants of a country in shadowdark as death light has blazed forth.
2 Hai moltiplicato la gioia, hai aumentato la letizia. Gioiscono davanti a te come si gioisce quando si miete e come si gioisce quando si spartisce la preda.	2 You have enlarged the nation, you have increased its joy; they rejoice before you as people rejoice atharvest time, as they exult when they are dividing the spoils.
3 Poiché il giogo che gli pesava e la sbarra sulle sue spalle, il bastone del suo aguzzino tu hai spezzato come al tempo di Madian.	3 For the yoke that weighed on it, the bar across its shoulders, the rod of its oppressor, these you havebroken as on the day of Midian.

5 Poiché un bambino è nato per noi, ci è stato dato un figlio. Sulle sue spalle è il segno della sovranità ed è chiamato: Consigliere ammirabile, Dio potente, Padre per sempre, Principe della pace;	5 For a son has been born for us, a son has been given to us, and dominion has been laid on hisshoulders; and this is the name he has been given, 'Wonder-Counsel or, Mighty-God, Eternal-Father, Prince-of-Peace'
6 grande sarà il suo dominio e la pace non avrà fine sul trono di Davide e sul regno, che egli viene a consolidare e rafforzare con il diritto e la giustizia, ora e sempre; questo farà lo zelo del Signore degli eserciti.	6 to extend his dominion in boundless peace, over the throne of David and over his kingdom to make itsecure and sustain it in fair judgement and integrity. From this time onwards and for ever, the jealous love ofYahweh Sabaoth wil do this.
7 Una parola mandò il Signore contro Giacobbe, essa cadde su Israele.	7 The Lord has launched a word at Jacob and it has fal en on Israel;
8 La conoscerà tutto il popolo, gli Efraimiti e gli abitanti di Samaria, che dicevano nel loro orgoglio e nell'arroganza del loro cuore:	8 and the people will al soon know it, Ephraim and the inhabitants of Samaria, who say in the pride of theirarrogant hearts,
9 "I mattoni sono caduti, ricostruiremo in pietra; i sicomori sono stati abbattuti, li sostituiremo con cedri".	9 'The bricks have fal en down but we shal rebuild with dressed stone; the sycamores have been fel edbut we shal replace them with cedars.'
10 Il Signore suscitò contro questo popolo i suoi nemici, stimolò i suoi avversari:	10 But, against them, Yahweh has raised their foe Razon, he has whipped up their enemies,
11 gli Aramei dall'oriente, da occidente i Filistei che divorano Israele a grandi morsi. Con tutto ciò non si calma la sua ira e ancora la sua mano rimane stesa.	11 Aram to the east, Philistines to the west, to devour Israel with gaping jaws. After al this, his anger is notspent. No, his hand is still raised!
12 Il popolo non è tornato a chi lo percuoteva; non ha ricercato il Signore degli eserciti.	12 But the people would not come back to him who struck them, they would not seek out YahwehSabaoth;
13 Pertanto il Signore ha amputato a Israele capo e coda, palma e giunco in un giorno.	13 hence Yahweh has topped and tailed Israel, cutting off palm and reed in a single day.
14 L'anziano e i notabili sono il capo, il profeta, maestro di menzogna, è la coda.	14 (The 'top' is the elder and the man of rank; the 'tail' is the prophet teaching lies.)
15 Le guide di questo popolo lo hanno fuorviato e i guidati si sono perduti.	15 This people's leaders have led them astray, and those who are led by them are swal owed up.
16 Perciò il Signore non avrà pietà dei suoi giovani, non si impietosirà degli orfani e delle vedove, perché tutti sono empi e perversi; ogni bocca proferisce parole stolte. Con tutto ciò non si calma la sua ira e ancora la sua mano rimane stesa.	16 Hence the Lord wil no longer take delight in their young people, or pity on their orphans and widows,since al of them are godless and evil, and everything they say is madness. After al this, his anger is not spent.No, his hand is still raised!
17 Brucia l'iniquità come fuoco che divora rovi e pruni, divampa nel folto della selva, da dove si sollevano colonne di fumo.	17 Yes, wickedness has been burning like a fire, devouring bramble and thorn-bush, setting the forestthickets ablaze -- up they go in bil owing smoke!
18 Per l'ira del Signore brucia la terra e il popolo è come un'esca per il fuoco; nessuno ha pietà del proprio fratello.	18 The country has been set on fire by the fury of Yahweh Sabaoth, and the people are like food for theflames. No one spares a thought for his brother.
19 Dilania a destra, ma è ancora affamato, mangia a sinistra, ma senza saziarsi; ognuno mangia la carne del suo vicino.	19 They have sliced to the right and are stil hungry, they have eaten to the left and are not satisfied; eachdevours the flesh of his own arm.
20 Manàsse contro Èfraim ed Èfraim contro Manàsse, tutti e due insieme contro Giuda.
