Isaia 33

BIBBIA CEI 1974	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Guai a te, che devasti e non sei stato devastato, che saccheggi e non sei stato saccheggiato: sarai devastato, quando avrai finito di devastare, ti saccheggeranno, quando avrai finito di saccheggiare.	1 Woe to you, destroying though not yourself destroyed, betraying though not yourself betrayed; whenyou have finished destroying, you wil be destroyed, when you have stopped betraying, you wil be betrayed.
2 Signore, pietà di noi, in te speriamo; sii il nostro braccio ogni mattina, nostra salvezza nel tempo dell'angoscia.	2 Yahweh, show us your mercy, we hope in you. Be our arm every morning and our salvation in time ofdistress.
3 Al rumore della tua minaccia fuggono i popoli, quando ti levi si disperdono le nazioni.	3 At the sound of tumult the peoples flee, when you stand up the nations scatter.
4 Si ammucchia la preda come si ammucchiano le cavallette vi si precipita sopra come vi si precipitano le locuste.	4 Your spoil is gathered in as a grasshopper gathers in, like a swarm of locusts people descend on it.
5 Eccelso è il Signore poiché dimora lassù; egli riempie Sion di diritto e di giustizia.	5 Yahweh is exalted, for he is enthroned above, he has fil ed Zion with fair judgement and saving justice.
6 C'è sicurezza nelle sue leggi, ricchezze salutari sono sapienza e scienza; il timore di Dio è il suo tesoro.	6 You can count on this al your days: wisdom and knowledge are the riches that save, the fear ofYahweh is his treasure.
7 Ecco gli araldi gridano di fuori, i messaggeri di pace piangono amaramente.	7 Look, Ariel is lamenting in the streets, the ambassadors of peace are weeping bitterly.
8 Sono deserte le strade, non c'è chi passi per la via. Egli ha violato l'alleanza, ha respinto i testimoni, non si è curato di alcuno.	8 The highways are deserted, no travel ers any more on the roads. Agreements are broken, witnessesheld in contempt, there is respect for no one.
9 La terra è in lutto e piena di squallore, si scolora il Libano e intristisce; la pianura di Saron è simile a una steppa, brulli sono il Basan e il Carmelo.	9 The land pines away in mourning, the Lebanon is withering with shame, Sharon has become like thewasteland, Bashan and Carmel are shuddering.
10 "Ora mi alzerò", dice il Signore, "ora mi innalzerò, ora mi esalterò.	10 'Now I shal stand up,' says Yahweh, 'now I shal rise, now draw myself up.
11 Avete concepito fieno, partorirete paglia; il mio soffio vi divorerà come fuoco.	11 You conceive chaff, you give birth to straw: like fire, my breath wil devour you.
12 I popoli saranno fornaci per calce, spini tagliati da bruciare nel fuoco.	12 The peoples will be burnt up as though by quicklime, like cut thorns they wil be burnt on the fire.
13 Sentiranno i lontani quanto ho fatto, sapranno i vicini qual è la mia forza".	13 You who are far away, listen to what I have done, and you who are near, realise my strength.'
14 Hanno paura in Sion i peccatori, lo spavento si è impadronito degli empi. "Chi di noi può abitare presso un fuoco divorante? Chi di noi può abitare tra fiamme perenni?".	14 The sinners in Zion are panic-stricken and fear seizes on the godless, 'Which of us can survive thedevouring fire, which of us survive everlasting burning?'
15 Chi cammina nella giustizia e parla con lealtà, chi rigetta un guadagno frutto di angherie, scuote le mani per non accettare regali, si tura gli orecchi per non udire fatti di sangue e chiude gli occhi per non vedere il male:	15 The one who acts uprightly and speaks honestly, who scorns to get rich by extortion, who rejectsbribes out of hand, who refuses to listen to plans involving bloodshed and shuts his eyes rather thancountenance crime:
16 costui abiterà in alto, fortezze sulle rocce saranno il suo rifugio, gli sarà dato il pane, avrà l'acqua assicurata.	16 such a man wil live on the heights, the craggy rocks wil be his refuge, he wil be fed, he wil not wantfor water.
17 I tuoi occhi vedranno un re nel suo splendore, contempleranno un paese sconfinato.	17 Your eyes will gaze on the king in his beauty, they wil look on a country stretching far and wide.
18 Il tuo cuore si chiederà nei suoi terrori: "Dov'è colui che registra? Dov'è colui che pesa il denaro? Dov'è colui che ispeziona le torri?".	18 Your heart wil meditate on past terrors, 'Where is the man who did the counting? Where is the manwho did the weighing? Where is the man who counted off the towers?'
19 Non vedrai più quel popolo straniero, popolo dal linguaggio oscuro, incomprensibile, dalla lingua barbara che non si capisce.	19 No more wil you see that insolent people, that people of unintel igible speech, of barbarous andmeaningless tongue.
20 Guarda Sion, la città delle nostre feste! I tuoi occhi vedranno Gerusalemme, dimora tranquilla, tenda che non sarà più rimossa, i suoi paletti non saranno divelti, nessuna delle sue cordicelle sarà strappata.	20 Gaze at Zion, city of our feasts; your eyes wil see Jerusalem as a home that is secure, a tent not tobe moved, none of its tent-pegs ever to be pul ed out, none of its guy-ropes ever to be broken.
21 Poiché se là c'è un potente, noi abbiamo il Signore, al posto di fiumi e larghi canali; non ci passerà nave a remi né l'attraverserà naviglio più grosso.	21 There it is that Yahweh shows us his power, like a place of rivers and very wide canals on which willrow no galley, over which wil pass no majestic ship.
22 Poiché il Signore è nostro giudice, il Signore è nostro legislatore, il Signore è nostro re; egli ci salverà.	22 (For Yahweh is our judge, Yahweh our lawgiver, Yahweh is our king and our Saviour.)
	23 Your tackle has given way, it cannot support the mast, it cannot hoist the pennon. And so there ismuch booty to be shared out; the lame fal to plundering,
24 Nessuno degli abitanti dirà: "Io sono malato"; il popolo che vi dimora è stato assolto dalle sue colpe.	24 and no one living there wil say, 'I am sickly'; the people living there wil find their guilt forgiven.
