Siracide 23

BIBBIA CEI 1974	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Signore, padre e padrone della mia vita, non abbandonarmi al loro volere, non lasciarmi cadere a causa loro.	1 Lord, father and master of my life, do not abandon me to their whims, do not let me fal because ofthem.
2 Chi applicherà la frusta ai miei pensieri, al mio cuore la disciplina della sapienza? Perché non siano risparmiati i miei errori e i miei peccati non restino impuniti,	2 Who wil lay whips to my thoughts, and the discipline of wisdom to my heart, to be merciless to myerrors and not let my sins go unchecked,
3 perché non si moltiplichino i miei errori e non aumentino di numero i miei peccati, io non cada davanti ai miei avversari e il nemico non gioisca sul mio conto.	3 for fear my errors should multiply and my sins then abound and I fal before my adversaries, and myenemy gloat over me?
4 Signore, padre e Dio della mia vita, non mettermi in balìa di sguardi sfrontati	4 Lord, father and God of my life, do not let my eyes be proud,
5 e allontana da me la concupiscenza.	5 turn envy away from me,
6 Sensualità e libidine non s'impadroniscano di me; a desideri vergognosi non mi abbandonare.	6 do not let lechery and lust grip me, do not leave me a prey to shameless desire.
7 Figli, ascoltate l'educazione della bocca, chi l'osserva non si perderà.	7 Children, listen to what I teach, no one who keeps it wil be caught out.
8 Il peccatore è vittima delle proprie labbra, il maldicente e il superbo vi trovano inciampo.	8 The sinner is ensnared by his own lips, both the abusive and the proud are tripped by them.
9 Non abituare la bocca al giuramento, non abituarti a nominare il nome del Santo.	9 Do not get into the habit of swearing, do not make a habit of naming the Holy One;
10 Come uno schiavo interrogato di continuo non sarà senza lividure, così chi giura e ha sempre in bocca Dio non sarà esente da peccato.	10 for just as a slave who is constantly overseen wil never be without bruises, so someone who is alwaysswearing and uttering the Name wil not be exempt from sin.
11 Un uomo dai molti giuramenti si riempie di iniquità; il flagello non si allontanerà dalla sua casa. Se cade in fallo, il suo peccato è su di lui; se non ne tiene conto, pecca due volte. Se giura il falso non sarà giustificato, la sua casa si riempirà di sventure.	11 A man for ever swearing is full of iniquity, and the scourge wil not depart from his house. If he offends,his sin wil be on him, if he did it unheedingly, he has doubly sinned; if he swears a false oath, he wil not betreated as innocent, for his house wil be fil ed with calamities.
12 C'è un modo di parlare che si può paragonare alla morte; non si trovi nella discendenza di Giacobbe. Dagli uomini pii tutto ciò sia respinto, così non si rotoleranno nei peccati.	12 One way of talking is like death, let it not be found in the heritage of Jacob since devout people havenothing to do with that: they wil not wal ow in sin.
13 La tua bocca non si abitui a volgarità grossolane, in esse infatti c'è motivo di peccato.	13 Do not get into the habit of using coarse and foul language since this involves sinful words.
14 Ricorda tuo padre e tua madre, quando siedi tra i grandi, non dimenticarli mai davanti a costoro, e per abitudine non dire sciocchezze; potresti desiderare di non essere nato e maledire il giorno della tua nascita.	14 Remember your father and mother when you are sitting with the great, for fear you forget yourself intheir presence and behave like a fool, and then wish you had not been born and curse the day of your birth.
15 Un uomo abituato a discorsi ingiuriosi non si correggerà in tutta la sua vita.	15 No one in the habit of using shameful language wil break himself of it as long as he lives.
16 Due specie di colpe moltiplicano i peccati, la terza provoca l'ira:	16 There are two types of people who commit sin after sin and a third who attracts retribution-
17 una passione ardente come fuoco acceso non si calmerà finché non sarà consumata; un uomo impudico nel suo corpo non smetterà finché non lo divori il fuoco; per l'uomo impuro ogni pane è appetitoso, non si stancherà finché non muoia.	17 desire, blazing like a furnace, wil not die down until it has been sated- the man who lusts aftermembers of his own family is not going to stop until he is quite burnt out; every food is sweet to the promiscuous,and he wil not desist until he dies;
18 L'uomo infedele al proprio letto dice fra sé: "Chi mi vede? Tenebra intorno a me e le mura mi nascondono; nessuno mi vede, che devo temere? Dei miei peccati non si ricorderà l'Altissimo".	18 and the man who sins against the marriage bed and says to himself, 'Who can see me? There isdarkness all round me, the wal s hide me, no one can see me, why should I worry? The Most High wil notremember my sins.'
19 Il suo timore riguarda solo gli occhi degli uomini; non sa che gli occhi del Signore sono miriadi di volte più luminosi del sole; essi vedono tutte le azioni degli uomini e penetrano fin nei luoghi più segreti.	19 What he fears are human eyes, he does not realise that the eyes of the Lord are ten thousand timesbrighter than the sun, observing every aspect of human behaviour, seeing into the most secret corners.
20 Tutte le cose, prima che fossero create, gli erano note; allo stesso modo anche dopo la creazione.	20 Al things were known to him before they were created, and are stil , now that they are finished.
21 Quest'uomo sarà punito nelle piazze della città, sarà preso dove meno se l'aspetta.	21 This man will be punished in view of the whole town, and wil be seized when he least expects it.
22 Così della donna che abbandona suo marito, e gli presenta eredi avuti da un estraneo.	22 Similarly the woman unfaithful to her husband, who provides him with an heir by another man:
23 Prima di tutto ha disobbedito alle leggi dell'Altissimo, in secondo luogo ha commesso un torto verso il marito, in terzo luogo si è macchiata di adulterio e ha introdotto in casa figli di un estraneo.	23 first, she has disobeyed the Law of the Most High; secondly, she has been false to her husband; andthirdly, she has gone whoring in adultery
24 Costei sarà trascinata davanti all'assemblea e si procederà a un'inchiesta sui suoi figli.	24 and conceived children by another man. She will be led before the assembly, an enquiry will be heldabout her children.
25 I suoi figli non avranno radici, i suoi rami non porteranno frutto.	25 Her children wil strike no root, her branches wil bear no fruit.
26 Lascerà il suo ricordo in maledizione, la sua infamia non sarà cancellata.	26 She wil leave an accursed memory behind her, her shame wil never be wiped out.
27 I superstiti sapranno che nulla è meglio del timore del Signore, nulla più dolce dell'osservare i suoi comandamenti.	27 And those who survive her wil recognise that nothing is better than fearing the Lord, and nothingsweeter than adherence to the Lord's commandments.
