1 Anch'io sono un uomo mortale come tutti, discendente del primo essere plasmato di creta. Fui formato di carne nel seno di una madre,	1 Certainly, I myself am also a mortal man, like everyone, and the offspring of this earth, which was made beforehand; and in my mother’s womb I was fashioned with care,
2 durante dieci mesi consolidato nel sangue, frutto del seme d'un uomo e del piacere compagno del sonno.	2 within the time of ten months, made of blood, from the seed of man and the delight of sleeping together.
3 Anch'io appena nato ho respirato l'aria comune e sono caduto su una terra uguale per tutti, levando nel pianto uguale a tutti il mio primo grido.	3 And when I was born, I drew in the common air, and in similar fashion, I fell upon the earth, and the first voice I uttered, like everyone, was crying.
4 E fui allevato in fasce e circondato di cure;	4 I was nursed in swaddling clothes and with great care.
5 nessun re iniziò in modo diverso l'esistenza.	5 For none of the kings had any other beginning of birth.
6 Si entra nella vita e se ne esce alla stessa maniera.	6 Therefore, there is only one entrance for everyone into life, and the same in leaving.
7 Per questo pregai e mi fu elargita la prudenza; implorai e venne in me lo spirito della sapienza.	7 Because of this, I chose, and understanding was given to me; and I prayed, and the spirit of wisdom came to me;
8 La preferii a scettri e a troni, stimai un nulla la ricchezza al suo confronto;	8 and I placed her before kingdoms and thrones, and I considered riches nothing in comparison with her.
9 non la paragonai neppure a una gemma inestimabile, perché tutto l'oro al suo confronto è un Po' di sabbia e come fango sarà valutato di fronte ad essa l'argento.	9 Neither did I compare to her a precious stone, for all gold in comparison with her is like a little sand, and silver, in view of her, will be valued as if dirt.
10 L'amai più della salute e della bellezza, preferii il suo possesso alla stessa luce, perché non tramonta lo splendore che ne promana.	10 I loved her above health and beauty, and I placed having her before light, for her light is unfailing.
11 Insieme con essa mi sono venuti tutti i beni; nelle sue mani è una ricchezza incalcolabile.	11 Yet all good things came to me together with her, and innumerable honors by her hand;
12 Godetti di tutti questi beni, perché la sapienza li guida, ma ignoravo che di tutti essa è madre.	12 and I rejoiced in all these, because this wisdom went before me, although I did not know that she is the mother of them all.
13 Senza frode imparai e senza invidia io dono, non nascondo le sue ricchezze.	13 This I have learned without falsehood and communicate without envy, and her integrity I do not hide.
14 Essa è un tesoro inesauribile per gli uomini; quanti se lo procurano si attirano l'amicizia di Dio, sono a lui raccomandati per i doni del suo insegnamento	14 Indeed, she is an infinite treasure chest for men, and those who make use of it, become partakers in the friendship of God, because they are recommended by the gifts of instruction.
15 Mi conceda Dio di parlare secondo conoscenza e di pensare in modo degno dei doni ricevuti, perché egli è guida della sapienza e i saggi ricevono da lui orientamento.	15 Yet God has given to me to speak my mind, and to conceive thoughts worthy of those things that are given to me, because he is the leader of wisdom and the repairer of understanding.
16 In suo potere siamo noi e le nostre parole, ogni intelligenza e ogni nostra abilità.	16 For in his hand are both we, and our words, and all wisdom, and the works of science, and instruction.
17 Egli mi ha concesso la conoscenza infallibile delle cose, per comprender la struttura del mondo e la forza degli elementi,	17 For he has given me true knowledge of these things which exist: so as to know the orderly arrangement of the world, and the powers of the elements,
18 il principio, la fine e il mezzo dei tempi, l'alternarsi dei solstizi e il susseguirsi delle stagioni,	18 the beginning and the end and the midpoint of the seasons, the characteristics of changing things, and the divisions of time,
19 il ciclo degli anni e la posizione degli astri,	19 the courses of the years, and the orderly arrangement of the stars,
20 la natura degli animali e l'istinto delle fiere, i poteri degli spiriti e i ragionamenti degli uomini, la varietà delle piante e le proprietà delle radici.	20 the natures of animals, and the rage of wild beasts, the force of winds, and the reasonings of men, the diversities of plants, and the benefits of roots,
21 Tutto ciò che è nascosto e ciò che è palese io lo so, poiché mi ha istruito la sapienza, artefice di tutte le cose.	21 and all such things as are hidden and unexpected, I have learned; for wisdom, the artisan of all things, taught me.
22 In essa c'è uno spirito intelligente, santo, unico, molteplice, sottile, mobile, penetrante, senza macchia, terso, inoffensivo, amante del bene, acuto,	22 For in her is the spirit of understanding: holy, singular, manifold, subtle, perceptive, lively, chaste, reliable, gracious, loving, good, astute, who forbids nothing beneficial,
23 libero, benefico, amico dell'uomo, stabile, sicuro, senz'affanni, onnipotente, onniveggente e che pervade tutti gli spiriti intelligenti, puri, sottilissimi.	23 humane, kind, steadfast, trustworthy, secure, having all virtue, watching for all things and grasping all things with a pure and most delicate understanding of spirit.
24 La sapienza è il più agile di tutti i moti; per la sua purezza si diffonde e penetra in ogni cosa.	24 For wisdom is more active than all active things, yet she reaches everywhere because of her purity.
25 È un'emanazione della potenza di Dio, un effluvio genuino della gloria dell'Onnipotente, per questo nulla di contaminato in essa s'infiltra.	25 For she is a breath of the virtue of God and a genuine emanation from the purity of the almighty God, and therefore nothing unclean can invade her.
26 È un riflesso della luce perenne, uno specchio senza macchia dell'attività di Dio e un'immagine della sua bontà.	26 Indeed, she is the brightness of eternal light, and the unspotted mirror of the majesty of God, and the image of his goodness.
27 Sebbene unica, essa può tutto; pur rimanendo in se stessa, tutto rinnova e attraverso le età entrando nelle anime sante, forma amici di Dio e profeti.	27 And though she is one, she can do all things; and, unchanging in herself, she renews all things, and throughout the nations she conveys herself to holy souls, establishing them as friends and prophets of God.
28 Nulla infatti Dio ama se non chi vive con la sapienza.	28 For God loves none but those who dwell with wisdom.
29 Essa in realtà è più bella del sole e supera ogni costellazione di astri; paragonata alla luce, risulta superiore;	29 For she is more spectacular than the sun, and above the array of all the stars; compared with the light, she is found to be before it.
30 a questa, infatti, succede la notte, ma contro la sapienza la malvagità non può prevalere.	30 Indeed, after her comes night, but wisdom will not be overcome by malice.
